I have started two new blogs, one to follow my running and a Quest to a Marathon at blog.262quest.com and one to follow my weight loss at blog.2big.org, please check them out.
I am an IT professional / Developer which means I sit in front of a computer most of the day. This means very little exercise and plenty of time to eat.
I decided at the first of the year that I was going to lose weight. I started by changing my eating habits and started walking.
I did so for about a month and then added some weight lifting and started to run a little bit.
I have so far lost 29 lbs in just over 3 months and would like to lose just over another 50 lbs by the end of the year.
I have started running quite a bit more and am training to run the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on July 4th (10k)
I need all the encouragement I can get because to do this I am getting up every morning during the week at 4:30 to go running. With a wife and kids this is really the only time that I can consistently do what I need to do.
I am driven, but at times get a bit discouraged because I don't have anybody to work out with or run with.
All in All, I know I can do it, I just have to remember that when I don't do so well, it is in the past and what matters is going forward.

Two more days before my 1 year anniversary.....
I ran my 5k tonight. I am still trying to get over my cold/chest cold, but I ran the 5k and set a PR for myself beating my last PR for 5k by over 1 whole minute. My time was 25:02.
I also hit another low over the weekend on my weight. I was 178.6, I am not recording it because who knows how it will be following tonight

It's been a rough year so far, and I've done little to take care of myself, so I think it's time to start. My goal here is to make gradual changes to my diet and physical activity, and enjoy it!

Tim,
What an amazing story - thank you for sharing. I know a lot of us around this time of year decide to start over and do what you've done - get healthy.
Your story is very inspiring and encouraging.
Thank you for sharing, and stay strong in your journey!

Well, yesterday was my official 1 year as the new lifestyle. The holidays were good, and I did pretty good (about 80% good) with keeping my mind on the goal throughout the week.
I actually dropped weight during the week, and that was with less then normal working out and more than normal eating. I think I may need to adjust my calories again, I think I have been aiming too low once again. I will see how this goes over the next week or two.
Even though I dropped weight during the week, my official weigh in day for the new "Sexy by Summer" challenge was a high day..... go figure!

Well, I have just started with this, so I cannot say too much yet!! My will is not the strongest in the world, so I get easily tempted by all those evil chocolates... But this time it will be different!! I'll try to log my weight at least once a week for everyone to see my results. Thanks for being there!!! And have a wonderful new year!

Something I just thought about - I forgot to post this earlier - it is a hugh thing too!
I mentioned in the original post about my high liver enzymes being what triggered the Doctor to tell me to lose weight......
Well.....
I went back to that Doctor for my 1 year checkup on Dec 20th....
He called me on the 21st to tell me great job, keep up the good work, and.....
That my liver enzymes were completely normal!
He told me at one of my previous visits that most people like me would need to be put on medication, but I was doing exactly what I needed to do. How about that to give you a big head? I have also never seen a Doctor smile that big before either

Words to live by: "Now's the time to grab the steering wheel of your life. Delve deep within yourself and take responsibility for your health and behavior. Ask yourself hard questions and face the truth of what needs to be done. Weight loss is not always easy or fair but you are the only one that can lose weight for you. Take a turn for the better!"
Goals: 1) Lose ~45 pounds 2) Work out at least 6 days a week 3) Eat healthier consistently
I will reward myself at the following weights: 235, 230, 225, 220, 215, 205, 200, 195
I will reassess my goals after I have met the above goals.

I have been working out regularly since Sept 07. I've been here several times in the past BUT this time the change is going to last a LIFETIME!!
I am the mother of a ten year old competitive figure skater (which takes alot of my time). I work fulltime and my hubbie works away. Time is a challenge!!!
I would like to lose 20lbs by July 1.
I resolve to: Short term (by June 1, 2008): 1. Get back on track after my vacation in Cuba (April 7 - 16, 2008) 2. cardio 5x/week including trying to get back to running if my achillis tendon will ever heal! 3. weight train 3-4 x per week 4. Drink 64 oz water per day (this will be the biggest challenge!) 5. Obtain a Normal BMI (154 lb)!
Midterm Goals (by July 1, 2008): 1. Continue with short term 2. Try to increase mileage to run a 10 km race around Canada Day (July 1, 2008) 3. Try to find a 10 km race to run between June 15 - July 15, 2008 4. Obtain goal weight (currently set at 150 lb but maybe 144 lb) - BMI around 23 5. Continue weight training
Long term (By March 31, 2009): 1. To still be at this in 12 months time (the exercise and health habits not the weight loss part!) 2. To maintain a BMI of around 23! 3. To run a half marathon...if all works out...Myrtle Beach Half Marathon Feb 2009

Thanks again all, That is one of the most exciting parts of losing the weight...... being an inspiration to others. My brother and his family were down over the holidays and I just found out yesterday that he has joined a gym, and his wife is joining soon too! Now, I don't know that I was the only reason that they did this, but I am sure I had some to do with it..... I did however drag them out on a cold New Years Eve night to watch me run a 5k.
Because of some prompting by others I have turned the above story and my ongoing journey into a blog, and have officially started it here: blog.2big.org. I also started a different one to track my progress on my Quest to a Marathon at: blog.262quest.com. Please check them out and let me know what you think when you get a chance.

Excellent, Tim.
Here's to my one day inspiring my Hub into action by example. I thought it would have happened by now but no.
And, I despise nagging, getting it or giving it, so I shall keep up the keepin' up, along with my hopes.
