I'm concerned that this goal isn't all that feasible and well thought through. Putting on 40lbs in 12 months and still demanding performance is quite a big goal and needs further breaking down.

If I was entering into mma, my goal would have less to do with weight and a whole lot more to do with performance. Don't be fooled into thinking that an extra 40 lbs will make you that much harder, because if you put it on that fast, it may be more likely to turn you into a sitting duck. To put that much weight on in that time will require you to compromise on your CV, and run the risk of becoming slow. Also, you will have to go through a transition period where the absolute last thing you can be concerned about is where your six-pack and conditioning went.

Surely your main goals is to get into A1 shape and knock the living crap out of whoever dares to face you. Out of interest, what is the reason for being 170lbs?
