Hi guys, My name is Sam I am from London, England.
I have always been overweight to some degree, 1 year ago I weighed in at 280lbs! I felt awful, but was too lazy to do anything about it, until I went swimming with my fiancée. I couldn't get out of the pool, there were children laughing and staring and adults looking at me!
It was then that I decided to do something about it, I joined a gym, went on a diet and gave up smoking! The diabetes I was told I had the year before which I was taking medication for was all but gone and now just diet controlled! All was going well...Now the wheels have fallen off and I need help to get going again, I got down to 13.5 stone - 189lbs I am now up too 15.5 stone - 217lbs, I want to get down too 182lbs - 13 stone, by the new year!
Its going to be hard but I am going to do it!!!
Before. 280lbs

I have started two new blogs, one to follow my running and a Quest to a Marathon at blog.262quest.com and one to follow my weight loss at blog.2big.org, please check them out.
I am an IT professional / Developer which means I sit in front of a computer most of the day. This means very little exercise and plenty of time to eat.
I decided at the first of the year that I was going to lose weight. I started by changing my eating habits and started walking.
I did so for about a month and then added some weight lifting and started to run a little bit.
I have so far lost 29 lbs in just over 3 months and would like to lose just over another 50 lbs by the end of the year.
I have started running quite a bit more and am training to run the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on July 4th (10k)
I need all the encouragement I can get because to do this I am getting up every morning during the week at 4:30 to go running. With a wife and kids this is really the only time that I can consistently do what I need to do.
I am driven, but at times get a bit discouraged because I don't have anybody to work out with or run with.
All in All, I know I can do it, I just have to remember that when I don't do so well, it is in the past and what matters is going forward.

WOW!!!
Thank you for sharing. That just really motivates me to work hard. What was your routine? Was there a moment when you just hit a brick wall and wanted to quit? I know I've gotten a few moments like that and picking one-self up and keeping it going is hard but rewarding.
Thanks! you are an inspiration.

I am 29 years old and have grown passionate about fitness and health! Overall, I have lost and kept off a little over 40 pounds, and I have about 20 or so more that I would like to take off. This last year has been tough and distracting in many ways, and I am back to work now! I am revisiting Traineo, because this site and the people here were instrumental in helping me lose my original 40 pounds so I am back! I regret that because of time constraints I won't be able to be AS active in the forums as I used to, but I will certainly try to stay in there and reconnect with old friend as well as make new ones.
My fitness goals remain the same as before as I haven't achieved them yet: *GOAL 1 = 140 lbs Target Date = 7/31/08 Date Met = TBD CURRENT FITNESS GOALS: Run a 5K, improve flexibility enough to do the splits, be able to do 50 pushups in a row, be able to do a pull-up, learn to do a hand stand and then hand stand pushups. :)

I'm a 26 year old guy from Tielt-Winge, Belgium. After my studies I would like to go back to my slim waist from several years ago. I completely change my lifestyle and started to eat better and exercise a lot more.

Hi Jennie,
I would say that there were 4 things that were massive factors in my weight loss and fitness increase.
1st being cutting down portion sizes. (I loved a large portion of lasagne or going back for 2nds, now I put less on my plate, then as soon as I have finished I put my plate straight in the washing up bowl, so I am not tempted)
2nd Breakfast. (I never used to eat breakfast; it was always a latte and a cigarette on the way to the office! Now I eat a good low fat cereal, ie: wheatabix or shredded wheat, with either skimmed milk or o% fat Greek yoghurt. It gets my metabolic rate up and sets me up for the day)
3rd Drinking lots of water (I always drank cola or milk-shakes all day, now I fill up a 2litre bottle with water every-day and make sure I drink it before I leave work. Always sipping the water and not gulping)
4th Exercise (I visited a gym with a friend, who tried to convince me to join with them but it cost £60 a month, so I weighed it up and thought that could be the £60 a month I spend on cigarettes, so I gave up smoking and joined. I love it; it almost gets to the stage where you are addicted to the gym, going 5-6 times a week!
They are the 4 things I would say to anyone who wants to lose weight, do them and you will do well. I also forgot to add in there cutting out bad food and trying to eat 5-7 pieces of fruit or veg a day.
What were the factors behind your loss???

Sam, great job!
Seeing success stories like yours will no doubt be a great motivator for me.
I just signed up this past week and have found this site, tracking tools and forums very motivational.
I am currently around 270 lbs and am looking to slim down to around 200. Gonna take a lot of hard work, as it must have been for you, but in the end I know it will be worth it.
What where your workouts like at the gym? I have been doing Turbo Jam..don't laugh...it really does work..the sweat that comes off me after 15 minutes is like nothing I have experienced before and I was pretty active in High School playing football, rugby, soccer you name it. I will be looking to encorporate some weights later on, but I know lots of people who have lost tons of weight just doing Turbo Jam ( Aerobics ).

Hi Tony, thanks for the comments, thats what makes coming here worth while.
Yes it was hard, but not as hard as I thought it may do, just keep focused and you will get there. We all have bad days but the people that want it enough will just get up the next day and get right back on it again.
My workouts to start with where 45 mins cardio and 25 mins light resistance work. I woul go to the gym 4-5 times a week, 2 days would be 1hr 30mins cardio only, no weights. I also took part in spinning classes and Body Pump and Body Attack. I haven't heard of turbo jam before, is it good?
Tony you seem like you know what you want and the way in which to go about it, so good luck on the journey to the new you.

Well done Sam; I see huge improvements. I'm going to start taking Body Combat, it might do me some good. I have kind of a random question, since you lost so much weight wouldn't you have excess skin, and that would also be against your overall weight? Or does your skin retract when necessary?
