My weight goes up and down depending on how I'm feeling/motivated and I often give up or set myself ridiculous goals I can't stick to. I also suffer from the "I'll start tomorrow" syndrome. Would love to hear from other people in my situation for two-way motivation, or not, for that matter! (when that damn red cross goes from my photo box, you can see what i look like as well)

The film 'Just Friends' with Ryan Reynolds when he's a big fatty and then comes back buffed and gets his girl. Always seems to motivate me! Top class film

"The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and listen to all kinds of talk, get told that you're a god or a total bastard. The Iron will always kick you the real deal. The Iron is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black. I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds." - Henry Rollins

When I'm on the stair stepper or what have you and really, really want to quit, I picture Jamie Eason in front of me, in all her fitness model & competitor glory, being my own personal cheerleader.
Works everytime. If I want to feel as good as she looks, I have to keep going. ^_^

I look at the people I see in the gym that I've seen losing weight. It makes me think "if they can keep at it, so can I".

My mother and sister: My mother is blind, but she manages her weight wonderfully, and she exercises 6 days a week. When she stays at my sister's house (quite often), she and my sister get up at 4:30 in the morning (yes, you read correctly), and they powerwalk for an hour! Even at home, my mother does 20 minutes a day on the Schwinn stationary bike (the one with the moving arms).
I also admire my sister because she makes exercise a daily habit, and she varies her routines quite a bit. She'll walk with my mother, but she also kayaks on the weekends, uses her Trikke, bikes to the library, etc. I really admire her because she has a terrible time losing weight, but even if she doesn't lose a pound in a month, she doesn't let that deter her from exercising.
So, whenever I feel lazy and don't want to exercise, I think of my mother and my sister, and that usually is enough to get me into gear.

just a year ago, i was sooo out of shape. out of shape, and not aware of it! i never paid attention, so it was like i had no idea that i was actually overweight. -- fortunately, i began to care about my fitness and health, and began to study about a healthy lifestyle. i began to go to hip hop classes, and do lots of exercises at home, and i made it. :) i had become 59 kilos. pretty near to my goal. --after march-april my life got all mixed up in a way, so i just ate what was on offer, and forgot about exercising for a while. now i weight 66 kilos, and i'm aiming to weight 57. -- when i began to lose weight i didnt have anyone motivating me, i motivated myself. i read motivating and inspiring articles, used motivating pictures, thoughts etc etc. -- but i know how much it helps to have someone there who cares and inspires you to go on, telling you you can do it, and always being interested to listen, if you wanna talk. that's why i'd love to be as a motivator for anyone here who needs/wants one, and i'm ready to do my all to help you out with stuff. i'm a trustworthy person, and it's easy to talk to me about anything. -- and a little about my thoughts: ----I like meeting lots of different people, with different thoughts and opinions, i like discussing about stuff, i love writing, dancing, music, poetry, books, movies. -----My favorite drinks and foods are italian, indian, persian, battery, 7up, lime juice, latte, cappucino -----I dislike waiting, being told to do something, jealousy, labelling people, i hate dishonesty, racism, wars, talking behind people's back, backstabbing, liars. -----What makes me sad, is why people have to wage war, innocent people having to suffer. -----What makes me happy, is that... wait i havent thought of that yet :| -- i cant think of anythign else right now, but if you wanna get to know me better or want to have me as your motivator, feel free to do so ;)

After hitting just under 200lbs. first year of college, I knew I had to make a change. I lost 50lbs, got down to 146 but have put a little back on. My goal now is to fight off the remaining fat and switch it to lean muscle, tone up, get abs, and improve my running!

I am heavier now than I was when I was pregnant. This is due to a good life of large portions, alcohol but little exercise. I am in a cycle of bad habits which I am struggling to break, and need motivation to do this long term as I don't believe in diets. I want to change my eating habits long term so that I am healthier and the weight stays off.

The question wasn't who do you want to be like. The question was who motivates you. TKM may be motivated to NOT be like Britney for all we know... Let's dial down the intensity a little here all, geez.

Even if this was written crassly, I can appreciate it on a certain level as while dieting I have often thought of the starving people in this world and how we as 1st world citizens rarely, if ever actually KNOW what it is like to be really hungry. Not peckish, not nibbley, not grumpy from missing a meal, but truly hungry.
As for who motivates me, hmmmm I'm not really into celebs etc., but there are a few folks on this site that have brought a tear to my eye with either the giant steps they have taken, the positivity and encouragement they have offered, or how they've handled adversity and they are, in the above order, Rachael, Dean and Dave N.
I also find Splint's story, zest for envelope-pushing and keen-ness to test stuff out for himself, as opposed to the far too common regurgitations of fitness facts du jour to be a breath of fresh air.
There's a lot more of you on here that have my admiration too, so CHEERS to you all.

There's a girl in my social circle who took notice when I was drinking wine (where I normally drink beer, and lots of it) and I said I was doing it to avoid the excess cals/carbs of beer. Then we chatted for awhile about my current diet and exercise routine.
That genuine positive reception to my resolve to be a healthier man is currently my top motivation. Bonus points to my motivation if the positive reception is coming from attractive women.
I also find myself a lot more motivated whenever I'm reading these forums. So every one of you is also playing a a positive part of my motivation.

I'm a vegetarian, trying to be better at eating whole foods and exercising 6 days per week. I've been off this site for a while, but I think I'm back for the long haul. Wish me luck!
My rewards for goal weights:
200 pounds: Order a body fat % calculator (I've been wanting one for awhile)
190: I can buy $40.00 of books that I've been wanting lately
180: He'll buy me a wedding band (we just recently got married, and at first I didn't want one to wear with my engagement ring, but I've changed my mind. So now we're making it a reward).
170: Professional full body massage (If you've never had this done, DO IT -- it's amazing).
160: New clothes (because my old ones -- even my old skinny clothes -- probably won't be fitting at this point).
150: Here's the grand prize -- we're going to go to either Africa or Europe! My husband grew up in Africa, and we've been talking about going for a long time. He has a lot of family there, and he hasn't been himself in several years. However, if that doesn't work out, then we'll go to Europe for a couple weeks. I'm SOOOOO excited, I've been wanting to go back for years and now I've finally convinced him to go!

And France in particular is certainly one of the more pricey items on the Euro-menu. If you're hankerin' for the countryside however and can skip the usual suspects like Paris, Nice, the whole Côte d’Azur for that matter, then thing$ start to look less insane.
EG: Just a few weeks ago I was at a big club in Paris and was rather taken aback to have the bartender asking me for 24 Euros for 2 vodka-tonics.
And they coulda been stronger...

Speaking of France... I have been dying to know this... I have just finished reading a book called "French women don't get fat" - is that really true??? I have been in France before but I can't really remember what size the women were... I guess I wasn't paying attention at the time!
