I have been following Weight Watchers for a while and been losing. Started excercising few months ago, my weight was not budging for awhile. Then, I saw HIIT recommendation on here to someone else and tried it. I started losing! Yay! But everytime I lose, I get scared that I might gain or hit another plateau.

At today's weigh-in, I lost 2.2 lbs with total of 36.8 lbs (the highest). I was thrilled and then started worrying soon after. I try to eat well and exercise but I feel like my head is playing games with me or I am playing games with my head.

Does anyone else have this crazy talk in your head and how do you deal with it?

Hey Inna,

This is all very normal stuff so I understand how you feel. The mind is very powerful and plays a huge part in the outcome and final result.

There are many things going on inside and you are right to address this.

A great thing to do initially is to keep a journal and write down how you feel for 20 minutes each day. Think about why you are doing, the benefits you will get, and other ares of your life that may improve as a result. Also think about what you are scared of if you don't achieve this, and what potential obstacles can you see stopping you from achieving your goals. Explore how you feel each day and it will help you deal with it.

If you have any queries then just get in touch and send a message and I'll help where I can.

In the meantime though, Congratulations on your success!!! and keep enjoying the progress.

Hi Hinna, keep on exercising! remember the less you eat the fastest you loose weight at the very beginning then something startes to go wrong, it's simply your metabolism that changes trying to save energies and thus requesting less daily calories to not put on weight. if you trainee every day for more than 30 minutes you help your metabolism to mantain high levels of energy burning. Don't give up but also do not think about it all day long or allow your head to play tricks with you!

This is very wrong. If you eat too little, your metabolism will shut down.

And welcome newbies!

Thank you all for your input!

Dean, I am going to try the journal thing. I have never been good at keeping track but I am going to give it a shot.

It is so crazy to have a conviction in my heart that I can and have the self-sabotage talk at the same time. I have never exercised for more than a week and here I am going on consistently for 6th month of weight training and good cardio. I know I can, so what the heck. I guess I do need to do some more self digging.

Getting your mind right for the long journey is definitely key. Keeping a positive attitude will not only make you feel better, but will keep you motivated for the challenges that remain ahead.

Try to remain both confident and excited for the final result. Minor setbacks shouldnt end your journey, just motivate you to push harder.

I often have negative thoughts, especially after having failed at maintaining my weight so many times. I've just started a new plan, and sometimes, the negative thoughts intrude---e.g., "What's the point of all this anyway? I'll just regain the weight." or "Sure, I'm exercising now, but when my schedule gets tighter in a couple of months, I'll stop." But this time, I'm fighting back. When those negative thoughts start to intrude, I shut them down immediately. I give myself some positive talk instead---even if I don't really believe what I'm saying at the moment. It's like smiling when you feel lousy; even if you don't feel like smiling, the very act of smiling will make you feel better.

So, my advice is to shut down your negative thoughts and combat them with positive self talk. I know that may seem corny, but it's been working for me so far.
