thanks for the info everyone. i am truly so much happier that im not obese so i would take my shape and loose skin over being obese but it is very hard to accept some days. i dont want to resort to surgery as i dont feel that i have done everythign i can yet in terms of diet and exercise and also letting my body maintain my weight for a period of time. i think we all have to make individual choices based on what we are comfortable with and also we have to remember we cant choose our parents so some of us will naturally have better/worse shapes than others but ofcourse we can make whatever lifetsyle changes we can in order to prevent them from becoming worse and/or improve them to the best of our ability.

I read on another forum after you reached your goal weight, to wait a minimum of two years before doing any surgery because the loose skin can reduce in that amount of time. Not completely if it is bad but enough a person might be able to live with it. These were people who had lost 100+ pnds.

I have a pretty good idea where my problem areas are going to be because even though it doesn't show on the scale...yet, my body has already changed enough people are noticing. Even my mother who never notices.
Belly and inner thighs are my problem areas. Ironically enough they are also the areas i am losing inches the fastest. i re-measured my upper and lower thigh and hips to see how much and the tape says i have lost two inches on each thigh and two inches off hips. i re-did it three times to make sure i wasn't hallucinating. lol.

gee, i am noticing the reduction and i am usually the last one, thus why remeasuring so soon. My legs are shaping up so well that i can actually see a hint of what they might look like if i manage to get the weight off.
I just look at them when i wonder why i am doing these exercise and eating lifestyle changes(i went from sedentary to moderately active, probably should have took it slower but i wouldn't have stuck to it) and it's not showing on the scale.

Thank you for your responses. i now know where to start off, mostly.

WOW GOOD JOB Joanne!! You should be extremely happy that you are losing inches. SOmetimes it takes the scales a little while to catch up so don't get discouraged!!!

Keep up the good work!!!

Yes, you're a computer software engineer, right? I mean, I can say the same, but how many people are you and I examining really? How many people do you even know that have lost a dramatic amount of weight?

Good point, though I actually know quite a few people that have lost significant amounts of weight (50+ lbs) but I haven't put everyone at the gym or beach under a microscope to analyze their body fat and/or loose skin.

My main point, though, is to just stay positive and keep at it since I firmly believe that you can naturally tighten your skin back, whether this belief is grounded in reality or not remains to be seen.

Wow Clifford, Mr. "unique and individual snowflakes," whatever do you not know?

That felt like a jab! Good thing my ego is so inflated that I barely noticed it!

Isn't the point of a discussion on a forum to chime in with our thoughts and perspectives? I'm not in the habit of prefacing everything I say with "I think..." or "This is my opinion..." since it seems pretty obvious that it is what I think or it is my opinion if I'm saying it, unless I qualify it otherwise... just weakens your arguments to beat around the bush that way!

Clearly I don't think I know everything, or else I'd spend all my time replying to EVERY thread here, and I wouldn't ask questions or even really read anything (threads here or articles elsewhere). My opinions and thoughts are formed based on what I've read, heard and discovered for myself through my own direct experimentation; wouldn't I be doing a disservice to the community if I DIDN'T share what's worked for me?

That is EXACTLY what the forum is for. To also our experience to give a helping hand to others. I didn't see anything wrong about the info you gave, in fact it was helpful.
In my own opinionI don't believe that loose skin can be eradicated without surgery on 'some' people, but that is my perspective from my own experiences with people who have lost lots of weight.
I started the thread to see if there was anything i could do starting out to keep it to a low amount or stop it from happening completely and i got plenty of answers.

Sometimes people just read things in a way that can be misunderstood in thier point of view, Put four people in a room, do something that catches thier attention and all four of them will have different stories about what happened.

Any info you give i will happily read, so don't stop if you have any. Thank you.

Hi Joanne,

I know I'm a little late here, but I wanted to chime in and let you know that doing strength training and cardio, in the same day but about 8 hours apart, has worked very well for me in the past.

I think it would be best to do your weight training in the morning, and cardio in the evening. I personally did it the other way around simply for convenience. Also, because at the time I hated cardio, and if I got it out of the way first thing, doing the weight training I loved after work was a breeze, and i was sure not to skip out.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice and the good luck, josephine.

I think that is what i am going to do. For me it is the other way around, i'm not very fond of the strength training but i enjoy doing my walk away the pounds at night (and eventually i hope turbo jam) so if i do it in the morning i won't be grumbling at night and deciding it wasn't worth doing at all.
