Why does it have to be so damned difficult to find an apartment in NJ/NYC??? this sh!t is driving me mad...reasons they say "no" (after I email them):
* place is already rented (too fast! wah)
* my crappy credit score (uh, I'm willing to give them up to 4 months rent in advance, wtf???)
* the fact that I'm not up there YET...f^ck! like I can't make up my mind from pictures? I'm FROM NJ! I know the damn neighbourhoods...gah!!
So, now I have to bribe my aunt to go looking at places for me, just so THEY can be sure I'm not some scammer or nutjob trying to rent a place in NJ/NYC from TX...
To add insult to injury, I had to order fugly clogs for culinary school today...
The only good news is that I also ordered this super-cool Oakley bag for commuting purposes hehe...
*grumbles and goes back to hunting down apts on craigslist*

I used to hate all forms of exercise, now I bike all over the place, jog from time to time, attend Jazzercise class, take the stairs whenever possible, do Turbo Jam, and I'm doing some free weight exercises.
Life is good - and I plan to keep it this way!

I'm just feeling generally whiny today. I'm home sick with a cold, I'm tired but can't sleep, and my hubby has been in Oklahoma for training for the last 3 weeks. Our 14th anniversary is tomorrow, and I really don't want to be sick when he gets home on Saturday - especially since I'm shipping the kids off to my friend's house for the night! I'm too tired to exercise and too bored to keep from feeling like eating everything in sight...good thing I'm stocked up on rice cakes and fruit...*sigh*
I think I'm going to go back to bed in a bit and try to sleep some of this off...

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

Also, I've been crazy hungry lately. I've got to get back on track and stop eating everything in sight!

I found my relationship w/ my parents improved greatly after I moved out; now we have a pretty good understanding that I make an awful lot of bad choices but I'm pretty awesome overall, and I can talk to them about anything... In time, good Sir

Feeling blue today...not exactly sure why. I guess because I feel homeless. Even though my best friend is letting me stay with him until I can move into my apartment, I still feel like blah...

had a couple days where i slept 14-16 hours, my blood sugar was really low, and i've never had that before. i was supposed to resume eating every two hours, get a lot of protein and vegetable fiber incorporated, but the napping (which i couldn't help) got in the way. i noticed friday night that i got hungry in bed and couldn't sleep until pigging out on some bread and peanut butter, then the same thing saturday, but even then i woke up sunday with hunger pains.
it has sucked.

Could you be overtraining a little? Looking at your let's eat post, you are eating super healthy, but it doesn't seem particularly calorie dense - do you eat more later in the day? That coupled with the rigors or your training might mean it's time for a few days off...

i probably did overtrain, and hopefully the few days of rest and swim will put me back right. i'm going back on the bike tomorrow, which isn't so hard.
going to try and get more complex carbs in today. and more carbs from vegetables than fruits. more fiber, more protein, more comfort maybe.

A few ups and downs with the weight lately. Losing those last 10 lbs again now. Revised fitness plan: -some cardio EVERY day for a month to remove the revenge of the hip fat -some weight training, some pilates -I love biking and lots of fun summer sports! That's what it's all about-good times!
I will eat healthy foods and let my body weigh what it wants to weigh. I concentrate on whole grains, lean proteins, fruits and veggies, and I will eat delicious chocolate when I want to! Guilt has been removed from my vocabulary.

I'm sick of picking up the slack for other people. Doesn't anyone notice things that need to be done?

Aaahhhh, ok, I do feel a bit better. Good thread idea. Time to move on.

I currently work as a Software Developer. However, this coming September I will be returning to school to get a M.Sc in Computer Science.
Unlike most people, I actually found being in school the best thing for my weight and health. I was a pretty small kid up until my family moved to Calgary when I was entering 6th grade. Since we lived outside a city and I had no friends within walking/biking distance I started to read more and more (I was already an avid reader, but was now reading about a book a day). So of course, my weight increased a lot over the following years even though I tried soccer for a couple of years, as well as baseball and basketball.
However, at University things seemed to click. I didn't like the food, so I ended up eating quite healthy, and small portions of everything else (since that's all I could handle). In my first year I went to a few cardio classes with my roommate. Second year, my old roommate and some new friends ended up roller blading almost 30 mins every day. Third year I moved to an apartment that required a 20 min walk to campus (so 40 mins minimum daily). And finally 4th year, I had the campus walk as well as I took up climbing (was going about 2 - 3 times a week). After graduating last fall and starting work, and having most of my friends desert me :(, I joined a gym.
Even with all this extra exercise that I've been adding every year I find my weight still likes to hover around 155 - 158. I have seen changes though. When I started Uni, I was wearing around a size 12 - 14, and I now wear a 6 - 8. But I don't seem to see any changes on the scale. I hover right on the border line between healthy and overweight on the BMI scale.
I've tried counting calories, and really, all it made me do was focus way to much on what I was eating and it made me hungrier. I don't really eat when I'm stressed, as much as I eat when I'm bored. So work can sometimes be a challenge, although I pack my lunch carefully so that I have extra snacks if I need them, but not too much so I can't really over eat by too much. My evenings are the worse if I can't distract myself and that's probably when I consume by far the largest part of my caloric intake.
Anyway, I'm hoping to finally manage to lose some weight, although I will be satisfied if I can just see my stomach shrink instead. :) I've started the couch potato to 5k running routine and will continue to actively try to get to the gym to do some weights, as well as climb at least once a week. Wish me luck. :)

I found out a week ago when requesting an iron test (have been constantly tired, and yes I take days off) that I have a heart murmur. Very odd since usually you have these since you were a kid and have always known (like my sister).
Anyway, while the rest of the blood tests they had done came back normal, they had me get an electrocardiogram (I think that's right) and the doctor today said my heart rate was a bit slow, but that's probably a good thing at my age. I also have a heart ultrasound (echocardiogram??) to do in June. But, since all my other tests were fine, the doctor was even more glad that I'm getting the second heart thing done. I'm 23 freakin' years old (okay, like 1.5 months from being 24) but I shouldn't be dealing with any of this - especially when I'm the only one of my sisters who consistently exercises. ARGGGGGG

Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they haev to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary.
Impossible is NOTHING.

Damn skippy; being one of the enlightened people, it's hard not to be right.
In the same vein though, it's been over 4 months since I split up with my ex of (basically) 10 years and I still lose sleep over it (like tonight... like right freakin' now.) I didn't expect I'd be over her and ready to start dating or anything by now, but... come on, it's sleep... it's not supposed to be hard to do.
My mind knows it's time to move on, but the heart wants what the heart wants... stupid illogical muscle.
