I'm 18, I have PCOS. I need to eat controlled carb and higher protein, and it sucks. I've always had a little trouble with my weight, and I gained a lot of weight out of stress two years ago. My lowest weight ever is 136, and it felt SO good to get down that low when I know I haven't been that weight since junior high! I want to finally get to where I want to be...130.

I'm in a similar situation in which I have little time. If it doesn't hurt your sleeping habits, you could wake up earlier and work out, which is hard, but effective! It makes you feel realyl good throughout the day, but make sure to stretch first...otherwise, it sucks.

Being insulin resistant, I have had weight issues since childhood. About 3 years ago I was at my heaviest weight at 90kg. Over time with diet and exercise, I brought the weight down to 66kg. Over the past year the weight has slowly crept up to around 73kg. The main reason is that I cheat on my diet. My workout routine: about an hour of step aerobics done to home videos 5 days a week, resistance training at the gym for about an hour each, 4 days a week and and 1 hour of yoga once a week.

Chris,
My sympathies are with you.
At the same time, just as your schedule does not prevent you from eating, you have to arrange your life to accomodate at least 3 half hour sessions of exercise a week.
Try to get the workout done at the beginning of the day so that you actually feel rejuvenated by the endorphin rush.
Get some cheap hand weights like dumbells and use them at home. You can also do the ab work at home.
Do compound exercises that work more than one muscle group. It will not only build muscle but also burn calories and elevate heart rate.
Limit the number of sets and take almost no rest between sets. Instead of resting, work a different body part.
If your present hectic schedule is just a temporary phase and things will lighten up, just make healthy food choices and stick to a home workout with dumbells till things get better.
All the best!

Chris, get off the rest button and start hitting the resEt button... suck it up... and get out and run, job, walk... just do something... anything. I know you are tired, drained, and have a bunch of other priorities... but once you get going you WILL FEEL BETTER. and you will thank yourself for it.
Somehow, we all make time to shower and brush our teeth... and yet physical activity seems to fall down lower on the priority list. Make it a priority and get up and go!
Again, I realize that it is tough. It probably may seem right down near impossible. So what! Git 'er dun!

i too have a similarly busy schedule. however, i noticed that when i stopped going to the gym because i felt that i was too busy, it became extremely hard for me to start back up again.
you could be caught in the vicious cycle of because you are not working out you dont have the energy it gives you to work out. force yourself in at whenever you can for a week or two and you'll find that you'll fall right back into it.
and remember its all about the intensity in there. if you've only got a short amount of time, make it count.
i would agree though. if this is just a phase, trudge thru it by eating healthy and when you normalize your schedule get back on!!!

Hey, I'm a lot like you...I need to lose weight. Started at 332 last year and my goal is 190-200.
Since we're in this together, I'm asking for an agreement. If you agree to motivate me, then I will absolutely commit to not wasting your time nor energy, to take your tips and motivation seriously and of course reciprocate to ANYBODY out there that is looking for an honest, candid and sincere motivator while changing their lifestyle.
Do we have a deal? (Handshake and a pat on the back!)
My podcast/blog is really just a way for me to remain accountable for my weekly progress and for once and for all change my life FOREVER.
I hope that I didn't bore you, but a profile (to me) is something that you can read, understand where I'm coming from and hopefully have a good, clear mental snapshot as to who is behind the typing.
I hope to help as much as possible as well as get valuable tips and support from this site. Thanks for reading and I hope that you'll come to me when you need motivation or a little kick to get you going. Man, my fingers hurt. My goal weight is per month, NOT the overall goal. I find that monthly goals are a lot more motivating and recognizable rather than saying "I need to lose 90 pounds or so".
Each month, my goal will change. BTW, my monthly goal is at least 8 pounds loss.
Peace and lets get going!

Quoting: netherland24 i have not been able to go too the gym for 4 weeks now
What were you doing BEFORE 4 weeks ago with your workout schedule? Has your life suddenly changed, or are you bored and frustrated. Tell a little more of your story.
Are you going to college at night? Sounds like you may want to re-evaluate Spring Semester's classes if you still can. You have a lot of hours working, studying and working. In a NON workout life, this is hard enough.
Mathematically, you have 168 hours in your week. Subtract 49 for sleeping and another (we'll say) 50 hours for work, add 25 for school and studying & you still have 44 hours left in your week. I am confident in you that you can find 6 hours a week to dedicate to your health.
Before you blast back at me...I don't know your story, commute, etc. I know. My point is to search and re-arrange your life to include some self time, otherwise you'll never do it. See the glass as half FULL.
One great tip is a nap which has been getting a lot of attention here lately. I love them and take them after a day of seeing clients and being in meetings. They recharge and clear my mind and body.
Do or do not. There is no try.

This is a bit extreme, but I have been running marathons for the past 4 years while a grad student and now a law student. The schedule of a law student is insane, but I know I HAVE to get my miles in in order to be able to finish the marathon. Adjust your calories down if you can't work out 5 or 6 days a week. I agree that you MUST try to get in at least three workouts a week--and I'd say an hour each--at a minimum. Even the President makes time to work out (Clinton did too...)! Think of it as an investment in your long term health.

well before, i was working 25 hours a week. Worked out roughly 10 hours each week, or at least went for 10 hours each week built up my cardio quiet a bit, ran for 45minutes straight, and did some weights.
still trying to figure out what to do since it is harder for myself to find time. their is no 24 hour gyms around my area, cause if there is i would be there around 12-1 at night.

Then, a half hour run, push ups and sit ups until you have time. Amazon.com has a great pull up bar for around $15... Good luck!

Looks like you bartered your 10 hours of working out for WORK. OK...
We can still do this.
A bicycle (too cold? Buy a stationary or treadmill) in the am with situps, push ups and yoga ball... ALL done in your home?
How long are your lunches? Can you squeeze in a brisk walk at least to help with the time issue?

I'm a writer and a web developer. Neither is a very active occupation, so I'm trying now to make up for a lifetime of sedentary activity and overeating. I'm not tracking calories since I'm following the Weight Watchers Core Program, where calories are not tracked.

A trainer I met with explained that your workouts don't have to be all at once during a day. For example, if you can't do 45 minutes at once, then do 20 minutes in the morning and 25 minutes later on in the day. This is what works for me on my extremely busy days.

Chris,
There is hope. I am a father of 7, I work full time and my wife goes to school full time. We are administrators at our Church and I am in a salaried position at work and married to my job. I used to be the "buff" guy growing up and now I look more like the fluff guy in my opinion. My wife and I recently purchased a gently used treadmill and put in the basement just before a 2 week vacation. I just hopped on it for the 1st time since returning a week ago and I do believe there is hope. Granted I didn't get my workout in until 12:30AM, but here I am to post the results!
