Words to live by: "Now's the time to grab the steering wheel of your life. Delve deep within yourself and take responsibility for your health and behavior. Ask yourself hard questions and face the truth of what needs to be done. Weight loss is not always easy or fair but you are the only one that can lose weight for you. Take a turn for the better!"
Goals: 1) Lose ~45 pounds 2) Work out at least 6 days a week 3) Eat healthier consistently
I will reward myself at the following weights: 235, 230, 225, 220, 215, 205, 200, 195
I will reassess my goals after I have met the above goals.

I know there was another thread dedicated to this, but I can't find it. So...here's a new one, LOL. I think it'll be good for us to post weekly goals and get that sense of achievement every week instead of only when we reach specific weights. I'll kick things off...
So this week I want to achieve the following goals:
1. Work out 5 times (Monday through Friday). I know I'm going to be busy on Saturday and Sunday, so I'm going to try to get all of workouts in during the week.
2. Eat better. That means making smarter lunch choices and practicing portion control. Lately I haven't been able to eat like normal, so I don't think this will be too difficult. I also need to make sure I'm getting enough protein.
3. VERY IMPORTANT - watch my sodium intake.
4. Run/jog more. This is separate from my gym workout goal because I'm going to start running in the mornings, and then going to the gym in the evenings. I have to get really aggressive with my training to see the results I'm after.

I gotta watch my sodium too, the output, as opposed to the in--my workout mat's been rained down on a few too many times and is now sportin' some salty accento's here and there so it's time for a good wipe down...
And this week'll be my first using my new barbell for weighted squats, of which I usually do 3 sets of 25. I think I'll do 3 sets of 20 and see how I feel after, if there's still gas in the tank, I'll make up the difference with a 15-rep tag set.
Have a great 5-day workout week, C.!

Success is not a race, be patient. Success leads to success. Success is always a work in progress. Success doesn't come to you--you go to it. Success is a journey, not a destination. Focus on the process. Some people dream about success... while others wake up and work hard at it. Success is achieved and maintained by those who try-and keep trying. Everyday is a good day to SUCCEED! If at first you don't succeed-try, try again

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

I have been working out regularly since Sept 07. I've been here several times in the past BUT this time the change is going to last a LIFETIME!!
I am the mother of a ten year old competitive figure skater (which takes alot of my time). I work fulltime and my hubbie works away. Time is a challenge!!!
I would like to lose 20lbs by July 1.
I resolve to: Short term (by June 1, 2008): 1. Get back on track after my vacation in Cuba (April 7 - 16, 2008) 2. cardio 5x/week including trying to get back to running if my achillis tendon will ever heal! 3. weight train 3-4 x per week 4. Drink 64 oz water per day (this will be the biggest challenge!) 5. Obtain a Normal BMI (154 lb)!
Midterm Goals (by July 1, 2008): 1. Continue with short term 2. Try to increase mileage to run a 10 km race around Canada Day (July 1, 2008) 3. Try to find a 10 km race to run between June 15 - July 15, 2008 4. Obtain goal weight (currently set at 150 lb but maybe 144 lb) - BMI around 23 5. Continue weight training
Long term (By March 31, 2009): 1. To still be at this in 12 months time (the exercise and health habits not the weight loss part!) 2. To maintain a BMI of around 23! 3. To run a half marathon...if all works out...Myrtle Beach Half Marathon Feb 2009

This week I want to:
1. Eat healthy - still having a little trouble with adjusting to diet post vacation = fruit for snacks not cookies!!!!
2. Master the exercises in my new program - 3 day split circuit training program!
3. See my PT on Tuesday and figure out how many times I have to do it this week (and do it those many times!)
4. Cardio - minimum of 5 times this week - try to incorporate some short runs (once really warmed up) to see if my achillis tendon can take it!
5. Drink at least 2L of water per day!!!!!
6. Most of all enjoy every minute of it!

today is my first day of giving up caffeine, and i am definitely a coffee addict, especially while training for the triathlon, working, and studying for finals...
so making it a week through that will be quite the goal to set.

Are you doing decaf at least, Troy?
I'm lucky I'm not addicted, I often sub decaf for the real stuff with nary a headache or a blip on the radar.
May I ask why you're cutting it entirely? You know--as opposed to say a cup a day max?

hmm. i know that cutting back on cigarettes never worked. it had to be all or nothing.
i just don't like my mindset of "six hours of sleep is okay as long as i have 4-6 cups of coffee per day." i want eight hours of sleep. or twelve, some days.

wow thanks! i'd heard some dastardly rumor that decaffeinated beverages contained ~30% of the caffeine as their regular versions, but actually decaf coffee contains less than chocolate milk, which i would die if i didn't allow myself.

Getting healthy is more and more important to me. I used to be more active, weigh less and feel better. I'm convinced that losing the weight I have to lose will bring me back to the life I really enjoyed. I accept that it will be by baby steps. I like the idea of losing weight and learning to live healthier with other people.

I have coffee every morning with my husband - 1/2 cup. It is a great way to start out the day. Haven't moved to decaf yet. I was drinking more but then my IBS flared up big time and my stomach started acting up too, so I've cut way back.
I'm just starting the battle for my health, again, so here are my goals:
1. lose 5 pounds by the end of June
2. swim once a week
3. walk a mile one day of the weekend.
I have to be careful because I had foot surgery and my foot swells up and starts to hurt with too much walking. Hopefully, in a few more months that'll just be a memory. I had the surgery so I could walk a long way. It was worse than it is now so I am grateful.
Thank you all for being here - I love reading your posts and get motivated just hearing everyone else talk about getting healthy.

I gave up coffee a few weeks ago and had a headache for about 5 days So then I started drinking tea instead - which I know, still contains caffeine, so I probably just swapped one source for another! Good luck with it Bean!
My goals this week:
1. Keep on track with diet
2. Final week of training for 10k race on the 2nd June
