7 Reasons You're Fat
1. You’re Lazy. Plain and simple. The thought of exercising just makes you want another 200 calorie soda.
2. You’re job rules your life. Whether you’re a full-time mom or a business executive, you probably don’t have time to eat healthy.
3. You have too much free time to spend eating. If you did more things rather than watch TV or sit at the computer chatting on facebook, maybe you could lose weight.
4. You work from home and have a house full of goodies. The temptation is all around you. Doritos in the cabinet, cookies in the jar, ice cream in the freezer. Forget salad!
5. You eat anger/depression away. You can’t help but hate the world, your job, your car, your kids, your friends, your boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse. Why not have another Oreo?
6. Your friends are fat and they drag you down. They eat out a lot, they snack, they order pizza/chinese and invite you over. It’s inevitable to happen.
7. You just don’t care about calories, fat content, carbs, you eat what you want because you only get one life to live.
How do we correct these issues?
Don't Do It: There’s no simple way to stop a horrible habit. Fact is, you make goals and never follow through. It’s a bad character flaw and we have it and hate ourselves for it. I don’t expect you to change your life style in order to be thin and conform. If you’re happy with who you are, stay that way and don’t let anyone pull you down.
Do It: Take your problem one step at a time, attempt to eliminate the things that are causing you to be overweight and unhappy. Like I said, don’t become a vegetarian or vow to never eat chocolate again, just think little. Moderate how you intake these fatty (yet delicious) foods, slowly adjust your body to different and better eating habits. Change your thinking, control your mind, and it’ll change your body.

Nothin to say, I'm 17 and losing fat/gaining muscle is easy with time. :)

# Posted: 11 Feb 2008 03:32
I think I'm a little fat because of 1 and 7. I never really played sports or anything, and I ate crap like cookies for breakfast lol. Losing fat is actually easier than I thought, but I am trying to lose fat and build muscle so I have to stay within a caloric window to restrict calories but get enough for my muscles . I think that's why I am keeping some fat, and why having muscle doesn't necessarily lead to fat loss.

Ask yourself hard questions and face the truth of what needs to be done. Weight loss is not always easy or fair but you are the only one that can lose weight for you. Take a turn for the better!"
Goals: 1) Lose ~45 pounds 2) Work out at least 6 days a week 3) Eat healthier consistently
I will reward myself at the following weights: 240, 235, 230, 225, 220, 215, 205, 200, 195, 190
I will reassess my goals after I have met the above goals.

I'm a journalist, and I really want to lose weight and be much healthier than I am. With such a fast-paced job, it's hard to find time to eat well and exercise, but I'm doing my best!

2 & 5 for me. I commute 30 minutes (by car) both ways, and my job is high-stress and fast-paced. It's really easy to use it as an excuse to eat poorly and skip exercise. And I'm an emotional eater. I'm working on it!

and when i get drunk, i binge eat...
at my bf's house we drank two nights in a row (parrttyy) and ended up going to taco bell one night where five of us ordered 20 tacos, and the next night 5 of us went to mcdonalds where we went through the drivethrough..... twice.. haha
one kid ate 30 chicken mcnuggets..
damn you 24 hour drive thru.
anyway, that's my story. plus chocolate. once i eat chocolate i crave it ten times more.

I'm moving to Asia sometime around May 2008. I refuse to be the stereotypical fat American.

it's that other recreational drug (not alcohol) that is the true source of binge eating. food tastes soooooo good. it would take five splint chesthair's guarding the fridge to keep me from emptying out the ice cream in the freezer.
k, going to the gym!

1 and 7 pretty much sum it up for me. When I stop caring and I get lazy, that's when the pounds start to pile on.

http://anotherfatguy.wordpress.com/ I'm looking at a total weight loss of over 130 lbs (60 kg for those of you in Europe like me...), from 150 kg to 90 kg (330 lbs to 198 lbs). I'm a 36 year old man and am REALLY tired of... well being tired.
So far I've been training like a mofo, and have totally revisited my diet - so far so good, 1/3 of my goal HAS been met - YIPPEE!!
Have met some great people here, and looking forward to meeting even more here on traineo - don't be afraid to bombard me with motivation - I'll take all you can give me :)

gee, everyone only has TWO things that sum it up for them...
I only have one that DOESN'T sum it up for me lol.
it's number 4 - I don't work at home, and if I look close enough I think number 1 (laziness) came AFTER I put on the weight. It was just too hard moving around to be bothered!

Oh man. This just hits the target.
1. I am lazy. But I don't drink soda anymore. Most days I just feel too tired to workout after work... which brings us to #2...
2. My job rules my life. I work from 8 to 5. But I get there at 7:30 AM and leave at around 6:30 to 7, which is why I'm so tired already.
3. I have too much free time to spend eating. I eat small amounts of food to help me stay awake at work... Or sometimes I drink coffee/tea. Is drinking about two cups of coffee/tea a day okay?
As for the others... well, I don't work from home but our house does not have a single healthy food in it. We have a pantry full of chips and cookies. I don't eat when I'm sad/angry... but I drink alcohol. Woo! My friends aren't fat but they don't really care about their weight. I care about mine but I don't think I care enough.

I have been working out regularly since Sept 07. I've been here several times in the past BUT this time the change is going to last a LIFETIME!!
I am the mother of a ten year old competitive figure skater (which takes alot of my time). I work fulltime and my hubbie works away. Time is a challenge!!!
I would like to lose 20lbs by July 1.
I resolve to: Short term (by June 1, 2008): 1. Get back on track after my vacation in Cuba (April 7 - 16, 2008) 2. cardio 5x/week including trying to get back to running if my achillis tendon will ever heal! 3. weight train 3-4 x per week 4. Drink 64 oz water per day (this will be the biggest challenge!) 5. Obtain a Normal BMI (154 lb)!
Midterm Goals (by July 1, 2008): 1. Continue with short term 2. Try to increase mileage to run a 10 km race around Canada Day (July 1, 2008) 3. Try to find a 10 km race to run between June 15 - July 15, 2008 4. Obtain goal weight (currently set at 150 lb but maybe 144 lb) - BMI around 23 5. Continue weight training
Long term (By March 31, 2009): 1. To still be at this in 12 months time (the exercise and health habits not the weight loss part!) 2. To maintain a BMI of around 23! 3. To run a half marathon...if all works out...Myrtle Beach Half Marathon Feb 2009

I agree Rachael, when everything is going well I am definitely not lazy but either when I get distracted or I reach my goal - I don't have to be as diligent - I get lazy and develop that "I don't care" attitude.
This time things will be different - physical activity will be a part of my life for the rest of my life! And a treat "every now and then " is OK but not everyday - then it's a habit. I'm trying to give up all my bad habits!

Hi . My name is Denise. I am new to the site. My downfalls would have to be 2, 4, and 6. #2.....I work 50-60 hours a week most weeks, so when i am home.. i tend to eat and sleep. #4....my roommates and husband do most of the grocery shopping. They tend to get junk food and pop, so its always in the house. #6...goes along with the previous.

I want... many things, and chances are that I won't reach all of my goals, but it's worth a try.
A. It would nice to step on a scale and see something below 200. About six months ago I broke the 300 mark, and have made progress since. B. In my entire adult and teen life, I have never worn size 32 pants. I'll settle for a 34 with a Seinfeld edit. C. I'd like to be able to do a chinup for every year I've been alive, but I'll start by aiming for one for every three years. (one for every three:done, onto one for every two!) D. I'd like to travel everywhere. In doing so, it would be nice to be able to sit comfortably in an airplane seat next to a reasonably attractive woman without worry about crowding her. E. XXL to XL: done XL to L: in progress F. A less than 6 minute mile (this is going to take a while).

3 and 5 describe my reasons to a large extent. In reality, I used to have a lot of work to do, but I would give into the doldrums and simply avoid work and watch tv or play video games (and eat, of course). For me, working towards getting into shape is a process that has involved a commitment to exercise AND to getting my important work done in a timely matter AND dealing with my frustrations more productively.

About 13 months ago, I joined Traineo and had some great success. See the “Past Goals” at the bottom…
After starting a new job, and going through some stressful stuff in my life, I lost steam and stopped going to the gym for about month, minus a little running and the occasional round of push-ups and sit-ups. After a couple attempts I finally got back on track and was doing well, even in the wake of the birth of my first child.
But then I went back to work, got a little sick, and got out of my routine. I knew I would be leaving home for a couple of months for training, so I decided to let the gym go to maximize the time I had left with my wife and son.
Now I'm away, and will try to squeeze working out into my tight training schedule. Wish me luck!
Phase 2.5 (ACCOMPLISHED!): Get back into a routine and accomplish 3 - 4 work outs a week in July. (Maintain from 17 July 08 - 15 Aug 08)
Phase 2.8 (ACCOMPLISHED!): Get back to the level of strength I had at the peak of phase 2 and add leg work outs to the mix, I’ve been neglecting my legs. (Target date 15 Sept 08)
>>>BREAK

I'm not really "fat" anymore, but I'm still not where I want to be... In the past when I was "fat" It was reasons 1 (lazy), 3 (too much free time on TV, games, etc.), But I would often blame 2 (job) & 7 (you only live once) for it. At times 5 (depression/stress) & 6 (My friends are a bad influence) contributed, but working out is better for 5 and 6 is just a cop out...
All in all working out has helped with job stress, family stress, and other emotional stuff... Very constructive. And many of my friends have now gotten into getting healthy, even Traineo (nods to Erik, Dave, & Kenn to name a few) so that helps with motivation.
I found that once I got into a grove, issues 1 and 3 have faded... Frankly 2 & 7 are just complete BS...
