Joanne, that sounds like great motivation. I like the sounds of the one that teaches how to move sexy. I want a review once you get to try it out.

Minu, I'm glad that your arm is healing. Hope the pain isn't too bad.

Dean, congrats on the interview. I don't think I get BBC, but I might be able to download the show if I knew someone on it.

Ha ha, It's not really acting as such. It is a reality show for wannabe business people. They show 16 candidates and a series of tasks with people being voted off each week until someone wins a £100k job with Sir Alan Sugar. I started my application in jest, though if I got on the show I think I'd have a ball!!

It was always on the BBC website (www.bbc.co.uk) when it was on TV here. No complicated downloads or anything it was just on iplayer. I think it is on TV next spring though filming will be finished before Christmas this year.

I can't keep a straight face thinking about it

So is the BBC version a spin off of the American version, or vice versa? Sounds like an awesome opportunity. Good luck Dean!!!

My positive thing I did today was going for a walk with a co-worker. It's pretty hard to get motivated enough to get up from your desk to go out into the hot outdoors and walk, but we did it.

We are both in a biggest loser competition a large group of us are doing at work. Today was our "measure in" day. We have both lost inches, but not much weight. Anything is better than nothing I suppose.

I've gotten up the past 3 mornings in a row to start off my day with 25 minutes of strength training/cardio/abs circuits. Even though I really really didn't want to get up that early, I did anyways, and hopefully I'll be reaping the results soon.

I don't know. It's like it is just so early that I don't even know what I'm doing. I just set my mind on it the night before, and then in the morning my brain is too asleep to argue. Oh, and I put my phone (alarm) on the other side of the room.

That being said, I didn't get up this morning because I had a friend's bachelorette party/lingerie shower to go to and didn't get in bed till midnight. 5 hours of sleep just won't cut it for me.

Since I didn't get up early to do my Shred DVD this morning, I just did it. And then I did Turbo Jam Cardio Party. I don't know why but I just felt like doing it instead of going to the gym. I definitely got some serious sweat on.

My BC instructor asked me to do a testimony for her web site. She said my wt training from the bc has helped me to improve my marathon performance would inspire many. But, I have refused. I felt that I could be better. Now, I am not good enough to inspire others yet.

I know it sounds negative. Actually, I see it a positive. I am glad that a real professional bootcamp instructor has recognized and picked me among all. This instance also helps me to push myself forward to be better so that I can be confident enough to post next time.

joanne, every step counts.

My positive happened last week, but I went to my endocrinologist and got back big improvements on my cholesterol levels.

We think I have high levels because of pcos, as there's no history of high levels on either my mom or dads side.

But, the doctor has told me that he's not at all concerned, based on my age, and general health.

However, the numbers are very high, so moving them down is good.

(The approx American values are in brackets according to mayoclinic)
Total Cholesterol went from 8.x to 5.x (above 240 to in between 200-239)
Triglycerides went from 9.x to 4.x (>500 to in between 200-499)
HDL went from ~1.2 to ~1.8 (below 50, to above 60)

Still can't calculate LDL, as triglycerides are too high, but next time I go (six months) he's going to try an alternative test and see if we can't get a number that way.

Thank you, both.

WTG on the test results.
By PCOS do you mean polycystic ovarian syndrome?
i have that too. it can make me gain 20 pounds in a week and a half actually not even that and i react so badly to birth control(gives me high blood pressure and makes me gain more weight) that i can't take anything to control it.
i didn't know it could affect cholestrol if this is what you are talking about

Yep. PCOS has about a zillion symptoms associated with it. It's kind of an odd diagnose in a way, because you can have any number of the symptoms, and be effected in any number of ways. I've read lots about people gaining a lot of weight, but just as many where it has had no effect on weight. Just like the actual cysts are not required to have pcos (had the ultrasound done and none found).

I apparently have "the profile for insulin resistance." It also seems to be related to my cholesterol levels. Only thing that makes much sense, as I have a pretty good diet, and there's no family history, and I'm only 24.

But my doctor seems to be good (only seen him twice, last week and in January). He's put me on Metformin, which is to treat insulin resistance (often used with diabetics but has become popular for pcos treatment). He could have put me on medicine for high cholesterol, but he wanted to treat the underlying cause not the effects (big thumbs up for this). Anyway, the metformin definitely seems to be helping me.

Our doctors here just want to treat the symptoms not the disease which irks me to no end especially with the other chronic syndrome i have that has pretty much ruined my life and kept me from having one.

I know mine affects my hormones alot and the weight.i suspect it might have a hand in why i am not losing anything after a month and a half.

all my doctor keeps saying is "lose weight and it will go away" , i don't believe them for a minute but i am trying to lose the weight.

It's good you have such a dedicated doctor who looks to the cause instead of the symptoms themself.

WHOA... I think you might need to find a new dr if at all possible.
Having PCOS is the Cause of the weight gain in most of the people that are actually over weight with it. THAT being BECAUSE your body is INSULIN RESISTANT, therefore it doesn't break it down 'normally'. I hate it when Dr's try to make you believe that all your health problems are because you are over weight. Sometimes being overweight is the Sympton of something else. UGh...it just IRKS me!!!!

I too have been checked tested, retested and tested again for the PCOS. This time tho, I think my new DR really actually knows what she's talking about. Iwent last Tuesday to see her, and she asked me LOTS of questions that no one else has asked before. So I'm pretty hopeful about her tactics.

Anyhoooo sorry i went off on a tangeant here...

My positive for the day is that... I might beable to test out of the Math class that I would have to take other wise. YAY... So ya'll wish me luck... I hate math!!!

I think the point is that some of the symptoms of pcos can be aggravated with extra weight. So it's possible that pcos makes it easier for you to gain weight which causes other problems. The whole ripple effect.

On the other hand, based on most of the research I've done on pcos (I stopped when it started getting too depressing), pcos can make people more likely to gain weight (the insulin resistance) but it does not make it impossible to lose, and it still comes down to calories in vs calories out.

Insulin resistance is not about breaking down insulin. It means you don't have a normal insulin response when you eat food. Your cells don't respond to the insulin response by your body. This can lead to excess triglycerides (thus the high cholesterol mentioned above). Medications like metformin work to make your cells more sensitive to insulin levels.

However, it's important to note that having pcos and having insulin resistance are not one and the same. Like I said above, pcos has a zillion symptoms, and you don't have to have all to be diagnosed with it.

Oh, I forgot to mention that when I was at the doctors, they all do a blood pressure check, where they run it 6 times and take an average. Anyway, he looked very impressed when he walked in and my average was 100/60. All that running has to be good for something.
