I have started two new blogs, one to follow my running and a Quest to a Marathon at blog.262quest.com and one to follow my weight loss at blog.2big.org, please check them out.
I am an IT professional / Developer which means I sit in front of a computer most of the day. This means very little exercise and plenty of time to eat.
I decided at the first of the year that I was going to lose weight. I started by changing my eating habits and started walking.
I did so for about a month and then added some weight lifting and started to run a little bit.
I have so far lost 29 lbs in just over 3 months and would like to lose just over another 50 lbs by the end of the year.
I have started running quite a bit more and am training to run the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on July 4th (10k)
I need all the encouragement I can get because to do this I am getting up every morning during the week at 4:30 to go running. With a wife and kids this is really the only time that I can consistently do what I need to do.
I am driven, but at times get a bit discouraged because I don't have anybody to work out with or run with.
All in All, I know I can do it, I just have to remember that when I don't do so well, it is in the past and what matters is going forward.

Yea, I have had a good day!
The Traineo shirt - I didn't realize I had it on today, although there are other pics on my blog of me in that shirt. I got it quite a few months ago when they were in the mode of trying to promote Traineo. I contacted them and told them I would be willing to help promote and they sent me some ad cards to take to the gym's that me and my wife belonged to. They also sent me an XL t-shirt and my wife a L t-shirt.
My wife doesn't wear hers, so now that I am a L I stole hers. I wear them all the time (thanks Traineo - I am giving you a lot of exposure) I wear them probably 80% of the time that I run and go to the gym. I am sure people at the gym think I am disgusting because I wear the same shirt all the time - however, I do go to the gym every other day and I also have two shirts.
Now, they are getting even more exposure because I have pics of me in the shirt on my blog - they made a very good investment

Nice, Jen.
I'm sorta in the same boat as today, (which was bluebird again!), I managed to get Hub out in the fresh air for some Badminton. I didn't even remember to bring a regular watch, let alone the heart rate monitor.
We had some real nice rallies too. I just love that sport.

Minu, I got my hubby out in the sunny weather too! It was very exciting because I just LOVE the beautiful weather. It always puts me in such a good mood. We walked and threw the football (American, that is haha). He looked at me at one point and kinda laughed. I said "what?" He said "You just have this huge grin on your face." Good times

I went out for my best 8 mile run so far today - and it was gorgous out at 61 and sunny!
We also went to the park as a family and threw around a baseball a bit. We went to fly kites but it was too windy to fly them (at least the cheap ones we have)
Awesome day!
(by the way - my 8 mile pace was 8:44 Whoooo Hoooo!) You can read more about it on my blog (yea I know - shameless plug) here >> blog.262quest.com/2008/02/last-eight.html

I've been doing really great for about 9 days in a row now. I've seen a little weight loss and I really feel great about myself. I can tell that I have significantly more energy than I had before I started getting healthy, and it is just a really great feeling. A lot of people seem kind of bummed today so I just wanted to be positive.

We got new badges at work. My old one was about 6 years old. It wasn't my highest weight by far, but still a very nice change.

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

Wow, Tim - awesome!!
I was just thinking about how drop-dead sexy I am, and realized that by the end of this year, I'm also going to be freakin' hot. That's a crazy combination and I'm pretty excited about it

Quoting: nicholman I was just thinking about how drop-dead sexy I am
Thats what I think all the time too. When my wife forgets I just remind her
My wife was telling me about a body builder that was at the gym today. She said he was really built and was checking himself out in the mirrors. I felt like I did the only thing that I could do and started reminding her on how sexy and hot I was and then of course I started flexing for her and telling her that I reminded her of that guy that was at the gym
Yea - she just laughed at me.

I have been working out regularly since Sept 07. I've been here several times in the past BUT this time the change is going to last a LIFETIME!!
I am the mother of a ten year old competitive figure skater (which takes alot of my time). I work fulltime and my hubbie works away. Time is a challenge!!!
I would like to lose 20lbs by July 1.
I resolve to: Short term (by June 1, 2008): 1. Get back on track after my vacation in Cuba (April 7 - 16, 2008) 2. cardio 5x/week including trying to get back to running if my achillis tendon will ever heal! 3. weight train 3-4 x per week 4. Drink 64 oz water per day (this will be the biggest challenge!) 5. Obtain a Normal BMI (154 lb)!
Midterm Goals (by July 1, 2008): 1. Continue with short term 2. Try to increase mileage to run a 10 km race around Canada Day (July 1, 2008) 3. Try to find a 10 km race to run between June 15 - July 15, 2008 4. Obtain goal weight (currently set at 150 lb but maybe 144 lb) - BMI around 23 5. Continue weight training
Long term (By March 31, 2009): 1. To still be at this in 12 months time (the exercise and health habits not the weight loss part!) 2. To maintain a BMI of around 23! 3. To run a half marathon...if all works out...Myrtle Beach Half Marathon Feb 2009

After a week feeling miserable with a cold - today I felt much better and got my activity back on track. I did 40 min of weigh training and 30 min of HIIT - I am back with a vengence!
And I'm hoping to see a half decent weigh drop this week when I weigh in for biggest loser tomorrow! Watch out guys the girls are out to get you this week!

I currently work as a Software Developer. However, this coming September I will be returning to school to get a M.Sc in Computer Science.
Unlike most people, I actually found being in school the best thing for my weight and health. I was a pretty small kid up until my family moved to Calgary when I was entering 6th grade. Since we lived outside a city and I had no friends within walking/biking distance I started to read more and more (I was already an avid reader, but was now reading about a book a day). So of course, my weight increased a lot over the following years even though I tried soccer for a couple of years, as well as baseball and basketball.
However, at University things seemed to click. I didn't like the food, so I ended up eating quite healthy, and small portions of everything else (since that's all I could handle). In my first year I went to a few cardio classes with my roommate. Second year, my old roommate and some new friends ended up roller blading almost 30 mins every day. Third year I moved to an apartment that required a 20 min walk to campus (so 40 mins minimum daily). And finally 4th year, I had the campus walk as well as I took up climbing (was going about 2 - 3 times a week). After graduating last fall and starting work, and having most of my friends desert me :(, I joined a gym.
Even with all this extra exercise that I've been adding every year I find my weight still likes to hover around 155 - 158. I have seen changes though. When I started Uni, I was wearing around a size 12 - 14, and I now wear a 6 - 8. But I don't seem to see any changes on the scale. I hover right on the border line between healthy and overweight on the BMI scale.
I've tried counting calories, and really, all it made me do was focus way to much on what I was eating and it made me hungrier. I don't really eat when I'm stressed, as much as I eat when I'm bored. So work can sometimes be a challenge, although I pack my lunch carefully so that I have extra snacks if I need them, but not too much so I can't really over eat by too much. My evenings are the worse if I can't distract myself and that's probably when I consume by far the largest part of my caloric intake.
Anyway, I'm hoping to finally manage to lose some weight, although I will be satisfied if I can just see my stomach shrink instead. :) I've started the couch potato to 5k running routine and will continue to actively try to get to the gym to do some weights, as well as climb at least once a week. Wish me luck. :)

Today was a really good day for me. I felt so exhausted by the time school was over and really didn't want to the gym, but there I was walking down to the LRT instead of the bus home. Anyway, I managed to do the Ok-Go treadmill interval program, and this time did the intervals at 7.5mph for first three (30 sec, 60 sec, 90 sec), 7.3mph (120 sec), half 7.5/half 7.3 (90 sec), 7.5 (60 sec), 8 (30 secs). I wasn't able to jog the rest periods in between, but I did a fast walk at 4mph. And it felt AWESOME!
I'm still also radiating joy since Saturday when I found out that I got chosen for the Google Workshop for Women Engineers (and CS ) and so I'm heading to Googleplex next week for a few days (all paid for which just makes it that much sweeter).
It's great to check on this thread and see the good things that are happening (as I find those more motivating than the bad).

Success is not a race, be patient. Success leads to success. Success is always a work in progress. Success doesn't come to you--you go to it. Success is a journey, not a destination. Focus on the process. Some people dream about success... while others wake up and work hard at it. Success is achieved and maintained by those who try-and keep trying. Everyday is a good day to SUCCEED! If at first you don't succeed-try, try again
