I can't imagine not being able to swim! I'm like a fish, even before I started doing laps. My mom taught me when I was like 4. She was afraid that I would drown if I didn't know how to swim. That's great that you'll be taking lessons this summer!

Well, you can always jump on a bike. But running is fantastic for you too!!

I started a swimming class today. It was only 30min once a week for beginner. Nobody knows I am doing it. Hopefully, this class can make me to swim in proper form. I can sort of floating in the water and do some irregular strokes. Mine is true “free style”. If I am in the water, nobody can tell if I am swimming or struggling from drown.

By summer, I am going to give my bf a surprise that I can jump into the pool and swim like a fish. He is going to be proud of me!

Okay, my positive: Yesterday work was horrible, I felt like a zombie by the time I left, just frizzled, you know? Then I got home and had a bit of a squabble with hubby so I was just really in a bad mood. Biking at Oak Mountain was on the agenda and I didn't really feel like it, but I knew I needed to do it and I knew it would make me feel better. I drove up there and stretched and got ready to ride and still wasn't really into it. But after about 1/2 a mile, I just really started to relax and enjoy the ride. I had an amazing time. It wasn't a really intense ride, but I did get a good sweat on. The weather was perfect. About 5 miles in, I actually stopped, drank a little G2 and just kinda watched and listened to the woods. There weren't very many people out there so it felt like my own little sanctuary. Nature (specifically awesome weather) + exercise = awesome! I guess there's a biker's high as well as a runner's high. I was in a much better mood the rest of the evening and it has lapped over to today.

After that amazing positive, I actually have more! I planted my very own tomato plants last night!!! I love tomatoes!!! So now I have my own plants and I'm very excited! I can't wait for them to start producing fruit! They are in buckets on my patio.

way to go rachel! i particularly enjoy growing spices in the window as they taste better, oxygenate the kitchen, and the process helps to save the world, in my own little way.

Rachael, nature always helps. It has such a calming effect and im happy you felt good after the ride. Im moving into a new apartment and im already thinking about getting some potted plants or spices to grow. Doesnt it feel good when you dont feel like working out....but when you do its awesome!

I have a Le'monde. I have no idea how much it weighs and I totally forget the size and stuff. I do know that it is blue and black and it is a boy's bike because I am so tall. Haha. I finally got a new seat on it and last night was my first ride with the new seat and it was so much better than the old seat! Stupid standard boy's seat was killing me even after 3 months of training. I coughed up the money and got a fancy butterfly seat.

Oh, btw, I bought my bike used so it was only $350. Not too bad considering it is Al and a pretty nice bike. I've had a couple of people go "You only paid $350 for your bike?? That's a steal!!"

I have a question to everybody here. I know I should create another thread. But, this thread has response from all positive people. I want to hear your opinion.

This Sunday, I am doing the 10K run for a charity. I have dragged my bf, his sister and her husband, and 2 of my other friends to join. None of them run or do anything for fitness. I am hoping to motivate them thru this event to start getting into the fitness world and enjoy exercising.

Do you think I should show them how fit I am in this race or should I follow their pace?

If I run well to show the how fit I am, will they be intimidated?

If I follow their pace instead, will they be discouraged? I have been running for a year already. If I do not show some "performance", they may think running means nothing. They can perform the same like me even thought they have never been trained.

How should I perform in order to hook them into running? Any suggestions?

This is a tricky question Glovia and I understand where you are coming from. Back when Kev and I were still dating, I wanted to try to get him into running with me and so we set off at a run and he made it about 5 minutes before he had to drop to a walk, huffing and puffing. He told me to go on and I did, but I wondered if I should stay with him. Wondered if I was "show-boating" or something. Kevin hates running anyways so he went up there with me one more time after that and that was the end of the running.

So I guess I don't really know what advice to offer you, but I just wanted to say that I understand where you are coming from. Sorry I'm not more help.

2 positives for today:

1. I got tested and I'm HIV negative (not that I was worried , but it's always good to know)
2. I got my economic stimulus package payment direct deposited this morning. MONEY IN THE BANK, WHOO HOO!

...that is all.

Glovia,
I would ask them ahead of time if they'd like you to stay with them. I'm thinking that since it's a big group of them, they'd be fine together if they had to walk, while you can run for your own personal goals. Just toss the idea out there and see what they say.

That be my two cents on ze matter...

I would say yes they would be intimidated. I think that you may benefit from slowing to their pace so that you can motivate them and keep it all light hearted. It will be obvious even at this pace how fit you are though they will respect your modesty as nothing will need to be said. In fact they'll probably say 'this looks easy for you, how do you do it?'

I think running ahead will just turn them off and make them feel small, never to run again.

That's my two pennyworth.
