what happened today that made you feel good? anything from getting a compliment to taking time for yourself to working out to achieving a goal to liking the way something looks to....
did something happen with work, school, family?did something make you laugh?
lets be POSITIVE lets share!
today a woman complimented me in the gym. she said she remembered me from years ago and that i lost alot of weight.
also, im preparing myself a healthy lunch; food my body deserves and needs.

Good idea, Jen, and bon ap.
Today I ran, (in the driving wind and rain no less, how dramatic), for 30 minutes straight with NO PAIN, a mark I haven't made it to for a spell due to some knee problems--ones I see now are all about running on pavement, which I've put a lid on.
Feeling awesome and looking forward to more of that.
So is pooch.

Success is not a race, be patient. Success leads to success. Success is always a work in progress. Success doesn't come to you--you go to it. Success is a journey, not a destination. Focus on the process. Some people dream about success... while others wake up and work hard at it. Success is achieved and maintained by those who try-and keep trying. Everyday is a good day to SUCCEED! If at first you don't succeed-try, try again

I have been working out regularly since Sept 07. I've been here several times in the past BUT this time the change is going to last a LIFETIME!!
I am the mother of a ten year old competitive figure skater (which takes alot of my time). I work fulltime and my hubbie works away. Time is a challenge!!!
I would like to lose 20lbs by July 1.
I resolve to: Short term (by June 1, 2008): 1. Get back on track after my vacation in Cuba (April 7 - 16, 2008) 2. cardio 5x/week including trying to get back to running if my achillis tendon will ever heal! 3. weight train 3-4 x per week 4. Drink 64 oz water per day (this will be the biggest challenge!) 5. Obtain a Normal BMI (154 lb)!
Midterm Goals (by July 1, 2008): 1. Continue with short term 2. Try to increase mileage to run a 10 km race around Canada Day (July 1, 2008) 3. Try to find a 10 km race to run between June 15 - July 15, 2008 4. Obtain goal weight (currently set at 150 lb but maybe 144 lb) - BMI around 23 5. Continue weight training
Long term (By March 31, 2009): 1. To still be at this in 12 months time (the exercise and health habits not the weight loss part!) 2. To maintain a BMI of around 23! 3. To run a half marathon...if all works out...Myrtle Beach Half Marathon Feb 2009

I broke into the 160's finally!
My PT commented on how small my chest was getting and we had quite the laugh about how my husband who hasn't seen me since Jan 1 (he arrives home Feb 16) was going to feel about that! But I am NOT complaining!
Last night I came down with a horrible sore throat, chills - felt miserable overall but right now I'm feeling pretty good so hopefully it won't impact by physical activity too much.
And today is shrove Tuesday - so before I swear off sweets for fourty days (and those would be my sporadic treats) I am going to treat myself to a bowl of frozen yogurt before I go to bed!
Tomorrow I have my fitness test done to get a clear evaluation of how I've been doing and I am anticipating great results (cold and all)!

I have started two new blogs, one to follow my running and a Quest to a Marathon at blog.262quest.com and one to follow my weight loss at blog.2big.org, please check them out.
I am an IT professional / Developer which means I sit in front of a computer most of the day. This means very little exercise and plenty of time to eat.
I decided at the first of the year that I was going to lose weight. I started by changing my eating habits and started walking.
I did so for about a month and then added some weight lifting and started to run a little bit.
I have so far lost 29 lbs in just over 3 months and would like to lose just over another 50 lbs by the end of the year.
I have started running quite a bit more and am training to run the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on July 4th (10k)
I need all the encouragement I can get because to do this I am getting up every morning during the week at 4:30 to go running. With a wife and kids this is really the only time that I can consistently do what I need to do.
I am driven, but at times get a bit discouraged because I don't have anybody to work out with or run with.
All in All, I know I can do it, I just have to remember that when I don't do so well, it is in the past and what matters is going forward.

Hey congrats jen that must be awesome!
Well.... not today but the other day while I was at work a friend came thorugh who hasnt seen me in a few months said "Wow you're skinny" lol. But I dunno if she really meant that or what, because I only lost.... er.... 4 pounds? or 6 at most? ... I dunno if you guys can tell but if someone lost say 4-6 pounds can you notice it with clothes on? lol
But seriosuly one good thing that happened to me today was reaching 3000 on my wii for boxing. It's awesome. Not as good as some of the other positives here though, lol those are more practical. Oh but no another positve that i'm more happy about was finding Jim Carrey's "An Un-natural Act" stand up comedy routine on youtube, the whole lot. I'm a really big fan of his and have been searching for a long time for it.

I lost just over 4 lbs between these two. I think you can tell - ever so slightly, but I think you can tell. That can also be exaggerated by the clothes you are wearing as well. If they told you you look skinnier, stop doubting it and be happy I am still told almost daily that I am looking good, and I just say thanks, and that I am still working on it. Most people tell me that I don't have any more to lose and I just tell them that they have not seen me naked..... and my wife wouldn't approve so they were going to have to take my word for it! Also keep in mind that the scale may say 4-6, but your Body Fat composition may be changing which makes you look even better and look like you have lost more (cause you have as far as fat goes)

It set me up for the day buzzing and awake. I also got to look at the beautiful hills and sun rise on the way to work.

I started on a serious weight loss program in September of 2006. My starting weight was 242 pounds. I'm 5' 5" tall. My current weight is 180 pounds. I was determined to do it on my own - no paid programs, pills, etc. My goal is to be 165. As of 12/1/07 - I've met my goal of 165!. Now for 2008 I'm going to focus on maintaining. Any additional lost pounds will be a bonus.
New Year and I've decided to set a new goal. I'm striving for 145 pounds. 1/30/08 - down 5 pounds....

I currently work as a Software Developer. However, this coming September I will be returning to school to get a M.Sc in Computer Science.
Unlike most people, I actually found being in school the best thing for my weight and health. I was a pretty small kid up until my family moved to Calgary when I was entering 6th grade. Since we lived outside a city and I had no friends within walking/biking distance I started to read more and more (I was already an avid reader, but was now reading about a book a day). So of course, my weight increased a lot over the following years even though I tried soccer for a couple of years, as well as baseball and basketball.
However, at University things seemed to click. I didn't like the food, so I ended up eating quite healthy, and small portions of everything else (since that's all I could handle). In my first year I went to a few cardio classes with my roommate. Second year, my old roommate and some new friends ended up roller blading almost 30 mins every day. Third year I moved to an apartment that required a 20 min walk to campus (so 40 mins minimum daily). And finally 4th year, I had the campus walk as well as I took up climbing (was going about 2 - 3 times a week). After graduating last fall and starting work, and having most of my friends desert me :(, I joined a gym.
Even with all this extra exercise that I've been adding every year I find my weight still likes to hover around 155 - 158. I have seen changes though. When I started Uni, I was wearing around a size 12 - 14, and I now wear a 6 - 8. But I don't seem to see any changes on the scale. I hover right on the border line between healthy and overweight on the BMI scale.
I've tried counting calories, and really, all it made me do was focus way to much on what I was eating and it made me hungrier. I don't really eat when I'm stressed, as much as I eat when I'm bored. So work can sometimes be a challenge, although I pack my lunch carefully so that I have extra snacks if I need them, but not too much so I can't really over eat by too much. My evenings are the worse if I can't distract myself and that's probably when I consume by far the largest part of my caloric intake.
Anyway, I'm hoping to finally manage to lose some weight, although I will be satisfied if I can just see my stomach shrink instead. :) I've started the couch potato to 5k running routine and will continue to actively try to get to the gym to do some weights, as well as climb at least once a week. Wish me luck. :)

Yesterday I managed to finally go bouldering for the first time in about 8 months and was not as far behind as I was expecting.
I also did the wii sports fitness test for the first time in ages and got a 29 with two of the three tasks being ones I normally suck at.
However, today I woke up sore (bouldering does that) and am debating whether or not to hit the gym this morning for a run or hold off.

This is a great thread!!! It is aweseome of seeing the common theme of celebrating where we are today in comparison to where we were!!!
Almost exactly a year ago I started on my quest to get in shape. Last year my neighbor asked me to walk with her...... I almost "died" on this fast clipped 3 mile walk. Truely, I thought we would have to call someone to pick me up.
Last night, I walked with her again ( after a year of busting my bums and 30 pounds thinner). I walked her "into the ground" and she is a young very fit thing. ( Remember, I am the "old" lady here..... 52 years old)
I think it is important to look back and celebrate our successes. I have become bogged down with trying to lose these last 10 pounds and having less than stellar eating habits sneak back into my life.
This thread is a great wake up call - think positive...keep moving forward!

I'm losing weight for my health, energy, and for my friend's wedding so no one mistakes me for Ms. Piggy's sister.

Haha! Very funny Ara!
Today I am actually well enough to get back in the gym. I have gone 8 days without real exercise due to a very bad sinus infection and I am very happy that I will be able to get a work out in tonight even if it is a lighter one.

So the good news for me today is that I am down 106 pounds from my highest weight, I am at a healthy weight, body fat, and bmi according to my nutritionist. My goal now is to focus mostly on building muscle and I am not afraid to do so. I know how hard it is to do so Im not ever worried about looking manly. So my diet and exercise routine is changing and although I cant give up wieghing myself out of habit, I know I cant be upset if I see the numbers going up as long as I have other factors that are positive. thats why i will continue to measure bodyfat and go by how my clothing fit. Im excited about the chance to have a "new body!"
