I know it's the middle of winter, but what's motivating me right now is knowing that Spring is just around the corner. I have about two months before the first sun drenched party and I'm motivated to look my best.

Two months is the perfect period to plan a workout program!

Israeli developed martial art... Basically, hit them until they can't hit you back, then get away

It's a great workout, and you learn some cool stuff.

Yep, what Dave said...Krav Maga was developed by the Israeli army as a form of self-defense/martial art. If you've seen the Bourne movies, then you've seen some Krav Maga (they had Matt Damon learn a few different martial arts then blended them together, one was Krav Maga).

Darn it! I forgot capoeira on my list! Brazilian capoeira is a dance/fight thing...always wanted to learn that too, as a nod to my heritage

Speaking of all these fighting styles/martial arts.
I began watching the 'Human Weapon' series and it looks fantastic. Showing and explaining different styles.

Also one of my goals is to do some sort of MMA would require me to learn one or more martial arts... any suggestions? I would be freshly new to fighting all together and 22/23 years old when I started learning.... am I to old to start learning?

You only stop learning when you die!!

I plan on taking Kung Fu this fall/winter, but you might benefit more from a more specific grappling style like BJJ or striking style like Kempo (or other traditional karate), depending on what you want to learn and what your particular strengths are.

You should also be getting a nice start with your boxing! As for Krav Maga, you might want to hunt down a class for all-around skills as it's great training.

Thats what I like to hear!

Well I would hope to take classes for whatever martial arts I take... or are their some that I can get videos and learn? I would rather take training though...

What motivates me?
The fact that I was born into a family where my metabolism was bound to get wrecked from the get-go. I'm still young enough, in my mind, to reset it a bit for the remainder of my life, so I'm trying my hardest to fix what I was powerless to fix before.

Also, I may be one of the most powerful swimmers on our lifeguarding staff, but I can't run a mile and never have been able to. That bugs me to no end >_<

I'm motivated primarily because, like others have mentioned-I want to look good/better naked. lol. also, i just want to be healthier-I don't want to get diabetes, or increase the chances of getting any of the other medical problems associated with being overweight.

am evolved-I haven't ever been able to run a complete mile either! =(. I can do every other cardio machine in the gym for an hour at a high level of intensity, but I can't run [nor can I really lose weight]. Any suggestions on becoming a better runner are welcome!

I've been a terrible runner my entire life- could never finish the dreaded mile run in high school, etc.

I just started doing it one day in college. I am really, really, really, really slow. But my goal is never a certain speed, it's just to keep only one foot on the ground at a time. Try it out- take some headphones, go outside (this is key) and see how long you can do it for. Something I used to do a lot at the beginning was focus on something 30-50 feet ahead, and make that my goal- then the next thing, then the next thing. You also might try the Couch-to-5K program, although it sounds like you already have the cardio stamina to run. Good luck.

The body gets good at what it is used to doing.

If you want to be good at running, then run. Now, this is the beauty. You don't have to go straight out and tackle 5 miles.

If you just run for 10 mins everyday, then the body will get used to it relatively quick. When I trained for the marines I made a habit of running 2-3 miles everyday. I never focused on pace or speed (I was crap at running then), it was just a gentle exercise. When the day came to turn it on, my body just did what it was used to doing. It ran like the wind blew, simple as that. No blood, no sweat, no tears, just simple results through a simple theory.

The body gets good at what it is used to doing!

P.S- To run a marathon, you practice with 5 mile runs. You don't need to run 26 miles in training do you?

Ara-

My mom and dad both started Karate at the age of 37. They are both black belts now (along with my 12 year old sister).

I would say you are definitely not too old. It might be a little embarrassing at first, but hey, anytime someone flails their feet and arms around it is embarrassing, lol.

Are you not a part of the "everyone" group?

How's the boxing going? It always seems like it'd be really hard, lol. Maybe I'm just lazy.

When I was in High School I was involved in Tae Kwon Do. I did two classes a night for an entire year and worked my way up to being a Second Degree Red Belt.

This has been something I have thought about getting back into. I quit when I was probably only a few months away from taking my First Degree Black Belt Test.

Taw Kwon Do is a great workout and helps a great deal with mental and physical discipline.

Traineo really is awesome. There's no way that I'd be anywhere near this motivated without all the wonderful people here who motivate, educate, and entertain me.

I'm motivated to take a trip to Europe or Africa with my husband!

And I'm also motivated to get in great shape to have a baby -- both for a healthy baby and to make it easier to bounce back after pregnancy.

I don't even know what MILF/DILF means.
