Quoting: Tikbalang Christians have an interpretation of the Bible known as the Third Temple: one's own body. Striving for perfection in all your duties is also consistent with teachings
Actually thankfully I know I am not perfect and cannot strive for perfection therefore I strive to keep my eyes focused on God instead of myself...because I will always fail myself.
Wikipedia souns a little generic to me in their definition of talents also. My body is a gift. I want to take care of it out of the love I have for God...It doesn't give me anything more than I already have. But it is the least I can offer God.
Thank you Mouse for your thoughts.

I work for a health care industry. I love tennis and running. I'm engaged to an amazing man, getting married November 1sh 2008. I am excited to lose weight and improve my heart (I have heart disease).
Short term goals: 1) measure my bodyfat % 2) complete 20 lb challenge 3) more consistent workout schedule (DONE) 4) phase from 2% milk down to 1% milk (DONE) 5) lose 30 to 40 lbs by my birthday (May 30th)
Long term goals: 1) Be able to run 3 miles again 2) Play tennis again on a regular basis 3) Reach my goal weight 4) Look great, healthy and confident for my wedding 5) Maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to have a baby

Quoting: lglcctj I've always wanted to be able to walk around a pool with no shirt on.
I mean.... hehe ok. well really I want to look better naked, I agree. Also, I want to know that I can shop ANYWHERE and find something my size. I dont want to have to search for the last of the largest size available or go to the specialized "larger sizes" stores.
ALSO, my LARGEST motivation is... *drum roll*... to have a baby. My heart isn't the best, if I can lose weight I know that I can get myself healthy enough to feel safe having a baby, which I would love more than anything!

Goals: 1) Lose ~45 pounds 2) Work out at least 6 days a week 3) Eat healthier consistently
I will reward myself at the following weights: 240, 235, 230, 225, 220, 215, 205, 200, 195, 190
I will reassess my goals after I have met the above goals.

Lol @ Linaeve for quoting me.
I forgot I even wrote that...*sigh*
Let's see what my motivations are now...
1) FEEL better and more confident
2) Feel comfortable being nakie
3) Be an inspiration to others who might be struggling with their weight
4) Be a vain SOB and show off my bod as much as possible (j/k...maybe)
5) Most importantly, get my blood pressure under control and avoid getting diabetes (runs in the family)

I closed this thread, but as I was putting away my things for the day I found a brand new one, and it just might stick.
My motivation, for the next six weeks, is the shiny new "Megan G, MD, Anesthesiology" long white coat hanging in the closet next to my dingy, generic "Resident Physician" coat. The catch? Despite being the same size numerically, the new coat definitely does NOT fit when buttoned. (How this happens baffles me and our entire administrative office, since the entire batch is too small). I can't wear it for the next 6 weeks since I'm in the neonatal ICU where white coats are banned for infection control reasons, but come my pediatrics rotation, I want it to fit.

Success is not a race, be patient. Success leads to success. Success is always a work in progress. Success doesn't come to you--you go to it. Success is a journey, not a destination. Focus on the process. Some people dream about success... while others wake up and work hard at it. Success is achieved and maintained by those who try-and keep trying. Everyday is a good day to SUCCEED! If at first you don't succeed-try, try again

Thats is a good reason!
With my second pregnancy, because I was overweight, I got gestational diabetes...the Drs told me the chances of it returning 5 years after birth are like 50% higher IF I DIDN'T DO SOMETHING ABOUT MY WEIGHT...nothing like a medical wake up call....
Good luck with your journey Linaeve and I hope you get some welcome baby news some day

http://anotherfatguy.wordpress.com/ I'm looking at a total weight loss of over 130 lbs (60 kg for those of you in Europe like me...), from 150 kg to 90 kg (330 lbs to 198 lbs). I'm a 36 year old man and am REALLY tired of... well being tired.
So far I've been training like a mofo, and have totally revisited my diet - so far so good, 1/3 of my goal HAS been met - YIPPEE!!
Have met some great people here, and looking forward to meeting even more here on traineo - don't be afraid to bombard me with motivation - I'll take all you can give me :)

HEY! I just found a new motivation!
I was talking to a colleague of mine today. He's the kind of guy that used to irritate the heck outta me, one who ALWAYS talks about fitness. He was a professional martial arts instructor for many years, and has more titles than anyone should ever have...
He knows I've been working out, and has always been supportive of me, but he's been rather preachy - not the good kind of preachy, but more the "be careful you're so fat you'll die if you work out" kind of preachy. Very snooty.
Today we started discussing fitness and he started at me again. Started talking about some examples of exercises I should do - bicycle never treadmill (I'm too fat), swimming never weights (I'm too weak)... that kind of stuff. Oh, and he told me I should stop eating junk food.
HAH! GOTCHA!
I then told him about the 1800 calorie workout I had today.
Followed by telling him how much weight I lift and that they're 5 sets of 10 (he thought I was talking about my max lift, not my usual workout)
Followed by showing him my fitday charts where junk food hasn't even seen the light of day in about 6 weeks.
I surprised myself with this talk, because I don't really have anyone irl to talk to about this stuff, but I could see something happening during the conversation - he went from preachy, to..... IMPRESSED!
Gawd I wish I could so a little "eat my shorts" dance electronically so you all could see how happy I was pwning his butt. LOVED it!!
So, ONE of my many goals (besides getting healthy, fitting into cool clothes, adding self-esteem)... to eventually look MUCH better than he does lol

Affirmations are very powerful!! So be careful what you wish for, cos you're gonna get it!!
Bruce Lee used affirmations when he was snubbed by the film industry in America. He decided that he would be a greater box office hit than all of the stars that looked down on him. The rest, as they say, is history....

Okay, well in my experience, most guys (in my life) don't care so much what they look like, they just want to be more "manly" than the other guys. Be able to move a refrigerator if needed, smash everybody else in video games, even eat more. Haha. I don't have a lot of guy friends who are trying to be really healthy and fit.

Thats only because we don't get enough compliments. If someone would take the time to tell me how wonderful I was I wouldn't have to kick sandcastles in peoples faces to prove a point.
