Recently, in another post, I posted about becoming a volunteer firefighter when I get into shape (besides round).

What motivates you, besides being healthy (which is great motivation)?
What have you always wanted to do that your weight or lack of psychical fitness stopped you from achieving?

I have always wanted to go hiking or mountain climbing, go skiing or snowboarding. I would love to run in all those charity events. But my weight has either hindered me or stopped me from pursuing those goals.

So what about you?

I've always wanted to be able to walk around a pool with no shirt on. I wouldn't actually get into the water. Chlorine and all those people and gawd knows what else is in that water. YIKES!

Other than medical motivation (keeping blood pressure in check) I hadn't really thought about anything else I could do with a hot and fit new bod. But hiking sounds like fun.

OH YEA, I would LOVE to run in a marathon of some sorts one day too. I think I'll aim to be able to run one by next January.

Thanks for inspiring me to make new goals Ara. You're a WELCOME addition to traineo (apparently, unlike some others. You know what I'm referring to, LOLOLOLOL!!!!)

I'm totally vain. I want to get into clothes that don't make me look pregnant, lol.

I stay motivated because I love to cook and I just happen to like a lot of healthy foods (as well as unhealthy ones), so I cook well when I cook. It feels great to say, "That was really good and it was only 100 calories"

The fact that after losing about 30 pounds I have gotten rid of all my "big" sizes. Yikes!!! my new size is getting snug. I can't afford to buy new clothes!!!

Hey I appreciate it now if you would please buy my product at ....

Nah but really. Those are great goals everyone. Yes the no shirt off at the pool would be great! Not having to shop at the big & tall store anymore would be fantastic. Having a girl or guy for that matter look at you in a new light? I wouldn't complain.

We all as a community get to discover new things together and thats what Traineo is putting together a great community with a common goal, and together not only will will we achieve Traineos goal but each others individual goals as well.

I personally would like to thank every one for helping out, not just me, but every person that visits. I have not seen a negative comment yet, Dean (lol im playing with you ;) ), in the week and a half I have been here.

Not being like my friends. It sound so cruel when I say it, but many of my friends are very unhealthy. When I see them struggling with what I consider an easy activity in phys ed, it breaks my heart. I'm no athlete, but I can run a mile and have no trouble staying awake in my next class (even though it is a boring one).

I believe Kevin Spacey said it first; I want to look good naked!

A little vain perhaps, but it's good motivation so far

I don't think anyone is being vein... you are working hard to achieve something.... might as well boast at it when you achieve it.

.... Make sure its legal where your boasting though....

i want to surprise my friends when i take a cross country trip to visit them before leaving the country for awhile.

i also do not want to be the stereotypical fat american while overseas.

today, i visualized myself in the new clothes i've picked out online to get me through the last 3 minutes of my run.

i'm also single, so, well, ya know.....

New clothes would be great. Im not single.... not sure if I like it that way yet. Shhh don't tell my g/f I said that

hey ara,

check out some of the transformations on this site: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/newyearsguide.htm

some of them are truly mind-boggling. i often mess around on the internet for around a half hour before leaving for the gym. it's a great motivator for me.

hehehehe, you better hope your g/f doesn't check your internet history! used to be they would just check the cell phone, but ya never know these days!

Being able to not need pills for my depression (I think alot of it stems from being overweight and the way I percieve myself because of it). Being able to get outside and run around with my kids (no more missing out with being active with them). Not ending up like my dad when I'm 55 years old (he's 6' 1" and weighs probably close to 400 lbs., maybe more). Having the knowledge that I CAN do this and that I am worth doing it for!

Great thread!

My motivations are firstly health reasons..I am on hypertension meds which could be totally stopped when I lose my weight..
I wanna be here for a long time yet on this planet and with my two gorgeous littlies - I have a 4 year old son and an almost 2 year old daughter. I want to be able to play with them and keep up with them, not be the fat Mum sitting on the sidelines who is to big to keep up with her kids.
I want to challenge myself when it comes to fitness - thats motivating to me..going from pottering about the house which really isn't physically demanding to being able to walk 10kms a day or something THATS COOL for me.
And lastly, I would like to be able to like the woman who looks back at me from the mirror every time I look in it - and I want to be able to like the body I catch glimpses of in store windows when I walk past, not cringe and dislike my body.

So these are the things that keep me motivated..theres many more but I won't write them here, things that involve my hubby :-o lol...

Haha those are all great great reasons. They are all totally achievable.
The depression one hits home with me a lot as well as the kids one.

I don't have kids now but when I do have them I want to be able to go outside and run around with them and not get tired out.

Great motivation from everyone. Keep it up!

Yeh depression can be a bad one to overcome. I was in the shape of my life around 16-17 with a basic six pack. I used to do reps with my ex gf and she wasn't light! But when we split I got lazy and thought what's the point?

I now use things like that to motivate me, day dreaming whilst running is a great one to get you through difficult areas. I imagine i'm Lars Ulrich playing my ass off at a gig! Whatever works for you though!

Just Jess, I can totally relate to this. I've found that since joining this site and working out regularly, I feel so much better. I haven't been on medication for depression in a few years, but those negative thoughts and perceptions were ALWAYS there. Now, I can look in the mirror and say, "I look good. And when I'm done, I'll look even better." And all of that comes from just dragging my a** to the gym on a regular basis. If I can do it, then I know you can.

Sammie, ME TOO!!! I was on meds for the past two months, but since I've changed my diet and been working out consistently, my blood pressure has dropped from the Stage 2 range to nearly normal! Again, if I can do it, you most certainly can. And if you need encouragement/motivation, you know where you can go.

LOL! I don't think there's anything wrong with saying you want to lose weight so you can catch someone nice and have a lil' sexy sumthin' sumthin' hangin' off your arm. That's one of my goals as well.

My goal is to have great blood work again.

Watching my body fat and weight drop let's me know I'm heading in the right direction.

well my first motivation was to fit back into my clothes, and be able to walk around without feeling self conscious.

but now, due to recent events, my motivation is to be a better person overall, and to finally reach my goal so that my ex-bf can see that i really can live my own life and fulfill my promises and goals, and that i won't just complain about it for the rest of my life and i can be happy with myself.

by reaching my weight goals, which i have struggled with and battled with for so long, i will know i can do anything, and that feeling of achievement will allow me to not feel so self conscious in other aspects of my life.

I would like to glorify God. I don't want to be so focused on me that I forget the reason I am losing the weight in the first place. This may sound silly to most of you, but I believe that I cannot really do anything without His help.

It doesn't sound silly, but I am curious; are you losing the weight for God then, or for yourself?

I really want to enjoy swimming and playing tennis with my husband. I'm so self conscious now that I really don't enjoy those activities with him.

I also really want to run a marathon. I've done several 5k's, (in fact I'm doing one in March), but I would love to be able to run much more than this.

I want, for the first time in my life, not to think about how much I weigh or how I look every single day. I just want to be comfortable with myself and actually believe that I'm beautiful.

And I want to get in the habit of exercising and being healthy while I'm still young.

These are my main motivations.

I am going to reward myself with skydiving when I get to my goal weight. I could go now, but I'll trust the parachute more when there is less of me. My real motivation though, is a long life with my wife.

I'm sick of being the fat girl amongst all my skinny girlfriends at the club. Guys hardly ever try to get in my pants anymore!!! And that's just wrong. Can't a girl just be objectified every now and then?!

LOL, nice...

I think we all just want to feel like an object every now and then.

-I'm not just a person, I can be used for sex too!
