Being insulin resistant, I have had weight issues since childhood. About 3 years ago I was at my heaviest weight at 90kg. Over time with diet and exercise, I brought the weight down to 66kg. Over the past year the weight has slowly crept up to around 73kg. The main reason is that I cheat on my diet. My workout routine: about an hour of step aerobics done to home videos 5 days a week, resistance training at the gym for about an hour each, 4 days a week and and 1 hour of yoga once a week.

I was just wondering if I am the only one who aspires for magic numbers.
Weight 65kg........ not 66, not 67, but at least 65!
A body fat percentage of below 25%
A waist circumference of at least 29 inches.
Workout heart rate [ peak of at least 168 in the anaerobic phase, 147 in the aerobic phase ], calories consumed [ 1800 not a single calorie more ]
At least 60 minutes of aerobics a day. My resistance training must last 60 mins.
I SEEM TO BE RULED BY NUMBERS!
Is this normal? Am I nuts? What if I do not achieve even a single number? AAAAAAAAAARGH !
Any one else who seems overwhelmed with numbers?

I decided to try Traineo as I am too embarassed to talk about my weightproblems; I always pretend I donot care. I eat (snack) whenever I'm tired, down or fed up. I have a physical disability so I can not exercise too hard. But I can walk and bicycle. I hope to find buddies online. Apart from all this: I have a great sense of humor!

Normal? Nuts? At least you're funny!
I don't think I'm that much into numbers, but I do round off my trainingnumbers to nice figures, like 22 minutes is 25, etcetera. And I always choose 'Medium' as the level, even when the walk was rather easy.
So I think I'm a little more into cheating than into numbers....!
Keep up the good work! I think your trainingregime is outstanding!

My weight has gone up and down repeatedly in the last few years. I managed to lose a lot of weight before getting married 2 years ago, but have since gained most of it back.
I hope to find new motivation on this site, and hopefully make some new friends. This time I want to lose weight and keep it off. I'm trying to not think of it as a diet, but as a change in lifestyle.

I agree that sometime we do concentrate a little too much on the numbers. I am guilty of this myself, but I am trying to look more at the actual results, like how I feel and how I look in the mirror. I also try not to step on the scale any more than once a week, or else I start to get obsessed with small transitions in weight.

I'm a 23 year old FFB (former fat boy). I'm a grad student at the Univ. of Phoenix. I was married on June 1st, 2007 by a wonderful supportive woman.
I have always been the fat kid so now I've changed that. I started at 305. I lost 80 pounds and was at 225 after I was sick. From Jan 07 to Apr 07, I put on 25 pounds. I then started to lose weight again, but started doing it the right way. I am now 235 and leaner than I was at 225. I'm going to see how close I can get to a 6 pack, but eventually I'll start trying to put on some muscle. Then lean out again.
Six-Pack would be awesome, I've never had one of those. So we'll see. (my photo is me at 305lbs. when i get a good pic of me now at my current weight, i'll post it)

well, i think you have to have a goal. If your goal is a 6 pack, then it doesn't matter what the numbers are, just keep going till you have that six pack. if your goal is to lose at least 100 lbs. Then that is your goal. It's fine that you giveit a number. You can't say, "I want to lose some weight." What does that mean? 5 lbs. 20lbs. 100lbs. ?
When it comes to the excercise. My goal is to maintain my aerobic heart rate at 60-70% of my max (around 125-135). I know what my goal is, not just "get my heart rate up" becasue 70 bpm is "up" for me. Give your self a time for your goal. 45 mins. or 1 hour. And get there. I notice that when i cheat, I feel like a quitter. When I finish it, i feel better about myself, i feel stronger, I feel like it worked better, etc.
If that doesn't work for you then go with what works, but this is what I do, becasue it is more motivational. It's hard to motivate yourself, so you ahve to find what does. Mayeb you could take some of your smaller slothes with you to the gym and just tack thm to the wall in front of you. Run to those jeans.

You may be nuts ... but having goals is critical to your success.
I have a short term goal and a long term goal.
I weigh myself daily so that I can adjust things to achieve these goals.

I understand what all of you are trying to say. We need the numbers because they help us set goals and make us strive to achieve them. But we should not allow small variations to upset us and drive us nuts. So I'll happily own those numbers in my first post but will not allow myself to get upset if the numbers do not always match!

Hm
Only two numbers I keep up with are 30 mins of cardio and whatever my current weight is, and what my target weight and progress are.
Once in awhile I'll check on how many kcals I should be eating, and spend a week of tracking my diet, just to get an idea of what I'm doing, but every day? No. Things like that need to be simple so I can remember, like, 'eat more vegetables' or 'no more chicken skin' , whatever. For me it's all about creating a lifestyle that keeps me healthy and happy.
