A gym where a friend works out has recently launched a new program Members can opt-in for a group contest. The team that features best perfromance on weight loss collectively wins. So if a members slacks off on training or eating, he/she is impacting the chances of their team. I would find this so motivational.
Any chance we could have this at traineo? Comments?

If you would like to follow my weight loss via blogging, the link is http://nottie2hottie.blogstream.com Otherwise, here are my stats. Was 226 and got to 185 and just lingered. Then I kicked it up like crazy and I got down to 145. THEN, after slightly falling off the wagon and not working on myself, I'm ready to again. I hope to get into the 120s.

Wow! It's exciting to see that this is taking place in different places of the world!
My parents entered a Biggest Loser contest in which there is a money prize for the biggest loser. My dad lost almost 16% body weight (much healthier now!) and he was the biggest loser of about 100 participants!
(I'm proud, can you tell?)

I am a contractor for a monolithic IT firm. This translates into a lot of time spent sitting. I have always been a big guy, but I am tired of being obese so I am going to utilize the power of community to hold my feet to the fire to stay active.

This is awesome! Would be cool to enable grouping by profession/region/common interest (Do I hear a team "CardioCoach" forming? ) As well as ad hoc groups.

Andrea, Biggest Loser is not even telecast by channels in India. This is the impact from what we read in the media. I am so glad for your Dad.
Jau, Count me in on team Cardio Coach.
Ashley, I would love to have you in this team. For the sense of humor at your blog. Plus your commitment of course.

My fitness regimen includes stationary cycling, light weight training and lots of walking around NYC. I'm a graduate of WeightWatchers and an enthusiastic advocate of its balanced approach to weight loss. I'm sure that I drink too much coffee and get too little sleep. :)
My goals are to maintain my weight in a healthy BMI/BF % range and forestall the toll of advancing age. :)
I think Traineo's established a great community and appreciate the support and information we share.

@All: Could teams compete in one or more of several categories? For example, pounds lost, total time in Target HRZ, etc. Some members may be focussing on building endurance rather than losing weight.

We're doing a "biggest loser" competition at our office. There are 19 people participating, and the contest lasts 3 months long. Whoever loses the highest percentage of their bodyweight wins. Everyone pays the winner a dollar for every pound that they've lost.
I'm in first place right now, down 22.2 lbs / 11.49% bodyweight. My starting weight was 215.4 lbs, as of this morning I'm 193.2 lbs. The contest ends on Dec 22nd, so I still have a lot of time to get to my goal of 170. I'm half-way there! If the contest ended today, I would collect $399.60! Great motivation eh?

I would love to join once it is up and running. I am losing motivation to keep going. I have put on 35lb since August. I originally weighed 301lb in 2004 and got down to 183lb early part of this year and started gradually putting on weight. I was going to the gym about 6 times a week but now that is non-existence. I find it hard to find anyone to really motivate me, someone who can really push me to go the distance. I watch the UK Biggest Loser here in London and it is fantastic, but I must admit I do prefer the US one as the contestants seem to lose alot more weight and body fat. Maybe we should do a prize with the contest if possible.

We did a competition like this at my company between the legal department and the business development department. We called it Lard of the Rings.
Legal won.
But then again, everyone who participated was a loser and a winner at the same time.

I have been struggling with my weight for most of my life. I lost 45 pounds a few years ago and have been hovering around the same weight ever since. I would love to drop another 53pds and am ready to take this weight loss thing seriously. Motivators are always welcome! I need all the help I can get! :)

Hello! My name is Iris. I'm a 28-yr-old mother to 2 beautiful little girls. I started my weight loss journey August 2006 at 200 lbs. And this September (2007), I am now down to 127 lbs. I am very proud of myself.
I haven't been on Traineo in months. I was only on for a short period of time, and then lost internet connection for a little while, and then couldn't remember my username and password LOL. But now I'm back. I'd like to work on becoming a little more lean, maybe getting down to 120 lbs. Most of all I want to work on my stomache. So, starting tomorrow, Monday, Aug. 20, I'm going back to keeping a written food/exercise/feelings journal.
Things I've done to get where I am today....I quit drinking sodas cold turkey, I cut way back on junk food, and I read the nutrition labels. I only eat the serving size. I only drink water and lots of it. I keep count of the calories going in and the calories I'm burning. I workout at the gym 4-6 days a week. And actually....I now work at a ladies fitness gym (since March 2007) and I'm working on getting cetified as a personal trainer. I love to tell my story and motivate others. It feels great and I just LOVE my job. I've taught one aerobic class on a whim to feel in for someone and may be teaching my own class by the end of 2007 or beginning of 2008.
I find ways to motivate myself daily. I can never have enough! So I'm here, LOL But really and truly, I'd love to support and motivate anyone who needs it.

I am 34 years old, married and a father of a 2.5 year old. They are the motivators for me to reach my goal. I started the new journey on 8/21/06 @307 lbs and as of June '08, I have lost around 108 lbs. I have been able to keep 100 lb weight loss since Sept. '07. What keeps me on track is the Traineo community, vision of a healthy and fit future and the mini-goals below. *GOAL 1 = 244 lbs, Date = 2/15/07 Date Met = 2/7/07 *GOAL 2 = 229 lbs, Date = 3/22/07 Date Met = 3/30/07 ________________________ *GOAL 3 = 199 lbs, Date = 6/30/08 Date Met = 6/5/08 *GOAL 4 = 185 lbs, Date = 09/30/08 Date Met = TBD (185 is my "ultimate" goal. Then build muscle.)
Hobbies/Interests: Baseball, White Sox, bowling, WII, Xbox 360, PSP, XM, Opie and Anthony radio show, Ron and Fez radio show, variety of music, working out, running.
Personal Records: 5K - 26:18 (4/14/08-8:29/mile pace) 10K- 54:56-9/16/07-(8:43/mile pace) 10 Mile Run - CXLD due to injury Marathon - 10/12/08
Advice: - Set a Deadline: "A goal is a dream with a deadline - Napolean Hill." - Set Mini Goals - They help you accomplish small milestones on your way to the "ultimate" goal. - Track your progress. - Plan everything out. Daily workout routines, meals, etc. - Be patient. Your goals will eventually be met, if you work hard.

I am 29 years old and have grown passionate about fitness and health! Overall, I have lost and kept off a little over 40 pounds, and I have about 20 or so more that I would like to take off. This last year has been tough and distracting in many ways, and I am back to work now! I am revisiting Traineo, because this site and the people here were instrumental in helping me lose my original 40 pounds so I am back! I regret that because of time constraints I won't be able to be AS active in the forums as I used to, but I will certainly try to stay in there and reconnect with old friend as well as make new ones.
My fitness goals remain the same as before as I haven't achieved them yet: *GOAL 1 = 140 lbs Target Date = 7/31/08 Date Met = TBD CURRENT FITNESS GOALS: Run a 5K, improve flexibility enough to do the splits, be able to do 50 pushups in a row, be able to do a pull-up, learn to do a hand stand and then hand stand pushups. :)

It is our habits that will make or break us - and mine were killing me.
It has been a six month commitment, but I no longer drink soda, fast foods are once every other week (if that), I get to bed at a decent hour, don't eat after 8pm and make sure to grab something for breakfast. Just with these changes, I have lost 15 pounds.
And now with the hardest part out of the way, I am ready to get down to business and revamp my diet, eat less calories, start exercising and not have to worry so much about my old habits sabotaging my progress.
My first goal is 145. I will reach it.
145 achieved. looking for 135.

Hi I am Kat, I am seventeen and I started this school year at boarding school. Although it's not college, I have the same problems with living in dorms, going to the school's dining hall, and staying up late finishing work and studying. Luckily I haven't gained the "freshman 15" (like a good majority of my friends have), but I have gained some weight and would like to learn how to eat right in an environment with a wide variety of [mediocre] foods. Have you ever been to a buffet and decided to try a little of each, and before you knew it your plate is piled high? Imagine that for every meal every day! It's a slow learning process but I would love it if you would like to be my motivator. Just message me! : D Thanks

I'm a writer and a web developer. Neither is a very active occupation, so I'm trying now to make up for a lifetime of sedentary activity and overeating. I'm not tracking calories since I'm following the Weight Watchers Core Program, where calories are not tracked.

Yup. It would be an honor-based system. Like at long-stay-hotels where they expect you to self-declare when you pick up stuff from the pantry.
