Any family gathering is a challenge for me, because there is a massive overabundance of food I like and people who really want everyone to be eating. If you go anywhere with people celebrating, they often want you to join them in their revelry. I've finally figured out ways to mange these types of things, but I do still get tempted sometimes.
I'll be working out tomorrow and New Year's because I'm off work, and it's part of my plan. I always try to work out when I'm off work, because I can do more with less fatigue.

I have started two new blogs, one to follow my running and a Quest to a Marathon at blog.262quest.com and one to follow my weight loss at blog.2big.org, please check them out.
I am an IT professional / Developer which means I sit in front of a computer most of the day. This means very little exercise and plenty of time to eat.
I decided at the first of the year that I was going to lose weight. I started by changing my eating habits and started walking.
I did so for about a month and then added some weight lifting and started to run a little bit.
I have so far lost 29 lbs in just over 3 months and would like to lose just over another 50 lbs by the end of the year.
I have started running quite a bit more and am training to run the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on July 4th (10k)
I need all the encouragement I can get because to do this I am getting up every morning during the week at 4:30 to go running. With a wife and kids this is really the only time that I can consistently do what I need to do.
I am driven, but at times get a bit discouraged because I don't have anybody to work out with or run with.
All in All, I know I can do it, I just have to remember that when I don't do so well, it is in the past and what matters is going forward.

Well, I did really good eating today, also did my 5k tonight. I am still trying to get over my cold/chest cold, but I ran the 5k and set a PR for myself beating my last PR for 5k by over 1 whole minute. My time was 25:02.
I have since then started eating bad, and will continue to eat bad until I go to bed sometime following midnight.
Already had Pizza, and just got back with some wings, and I think we have some cheese dip and Ice cream to complete the evening.
Then I will wake up tomorrow morning and pull myself back up onto the wagon.

I am still recovering, but each day is a bit better - thanks!
I am also back on the wagon. Last night was an expected slip up. I, in fact, wouldn't even call it a slip up, but more of a plan.
I ate 3 pieces of pizza and about 10 wings. Probably twice as much as I would eat at any other time, but it was new years, and I wanted it We didn't end up getting the cheese dip and chips or the ice cream out which I was happy for. All in all, I am happy with how the day went overall, I would guess as far as calories go I probably didn't even go over maintenance considering what I ate the rest of the day - the evening was just plain junk though. - still, much much better than what I would have (actually did) last year under "old me".
Hope everyone is having a great day, and remember, if you fell off the wagon, pick yourself back up and get back on. Today is the day to start!

tim-you need those days once in awhile. i like that you called it a plan. you can plan to "cheat" once in awhile and as long as you get right back on track right away thats what makes it healthy and like you said it was much better than last year and the "old you." great approach! i might just have to plan a pizza and wing day myself-actually no wings though b/c i dont like wings.

I like wings too much
I actually some time ago went to a wing place with a couple friends for lunch. It was all I could do to not order the wing buffet, but I knew I would over do it. I ended up getting an 8 piece for only a $1 savings, but it saved me from going overboard.... and that it what mattered.
They both went overboard, but I didn't

I hear ya, I stay away from buffets all the time now - they are not cost effective for me anymore either. When I do go because that is where the family or friends want to go (yes, I am kicking and screaming - my wife hates to bring it up because she knows I hate it, and it puts me in a foul mood - because it is so hard to resist the temptation of overdoing it.) I don't get my moneys worth. Pizza buffet = 2 slices of pizza and some salad..... The pizza place loves me!
