I am signed up for a 5k race on New Years Eve at 7:00 pm. I am excited about running it, but have been getting sick over the last couple days and it is settling in my chest. That being the case I am not sure if I will be able to run.

We will see....

Well, I always feel better after running, and was going to go for a run Christmas day when I started feeling sick but didn't because it was late at night.

So.....

I was feeling worst this morning, the sinus ichy was settling in my chest so I was concerned.... so.... I only went out for 1 mile.

I felt good so I went back out for 2 more miles, and felt even better. I could have kept going but decided that was enough for my not so well body. I feel better already, so hopefully this will start turning it around as we have family coming in today for the rest of the year.

I can't help but wonder........ this is the first time I have been sick since I started on this Journey http://www.traineo.com/14_4368_0.html almost a year ago. I wonder if it is because I have been eating more junk the last few days..... hmmmmm. The way I feel now is a far cry from how I felt just this past Saturday when I ran my Half Marathon in training. http://www.traineo.com/1019_4386_0.html

Oh well, we will see how it goes. Sorry this is WAY off subject on this thread.... I will stop hijacking.

On change I am making this year is to eat healthier party foods that night. Every year my friends get together & celebrate. Last year I ate a lot of crap & drank way too much of everything! This year I am taking healthy versions of party foods (cranberry relish, Low fat TURKEY sausage cheese balls instead of the pork gut bombs we normally have, & of course veggies!) Also I am taking a single bottle of wine. I will have a couple of glasses of that & the champagne toast & thats it!

The next day I am planning on eating some kale & black eyed peas & grilled chicken. Which is tons better than the pizza we ordered last year due to not planning anything ahead of time.

For exercise I plan on dancing a good bit that night & getting on the treadmill the next day at some point.

I want to enjoy it all, yet not be too bad.

I've done the Polar Bear swims on New Years day in the past but now I'm down 35 pounds of insulating body fat. I think I'm going to skip it this year.

Ali-sounds like a good plan-sounds like you are preparing in advance which is smart. have fun and enjoy yourself!

splint- i imagine it would be much chillier w/o that layer of fat!brrrrrrrrrr

I'll be doing the same ole, same ole on both days: 30 minutes of cardio and 45-60 or so minutes of weight training.

I currently live in very rural America and have little desire to be out and about on New Year's Eve. It's amateur night in regard to alcohol in any case.

(I'm 33 by the way and have kind of forsaken the bar/club scene. I'm not completely done with those days yet, however, and look forward to checking out the scene again once I move to a more urban location and get back into shape!)

Busy lives need down time and this is just what I have planned. Dancing, swimming, connecting with my local environment.

I can't wait! 2 whole days just for me.

Ringing in the new year by celebrating life and clarifying my goals. What better way to mark the new year?

I have carefully planned my menu to ensure that most ingredients are locally grown and that I will not deny myself small treats in moderation.

I am holding the New Year Eve party at home. I am going to challenge myself to prepare healthy food for my guests. No butter, no MSG and low sodium.

I will also challenge myself not to visit the same food twice (hopefully, it can help to control my eating disorder during the holidays )

I will eat healthy, commit myself to the gym for at least 3-4 days a week and prepare to get in shape by my birthday to join a marathon training group.

I need all the motivation i can get. I have let my weight gain sit for far too long and why not ring in the new year with the typical cliche.

Not get the NY holiday get to me too much. It's only a day. I always used this as a now or never date, but that only made me fail. January 1st? Just another day. Albeit a good day.

I CHALLENGE MYSELF TO DO my workout program ON NEW YEARS EVE/DAY.

I typically use the weekends and holidays as skip days and it just gets me out of my routine and messes everything up!

I am with Dan. Why limit your challenges to these 2 days?

IF you do it on 12/31 and 1/1, what does that prove? IF you don't do it on 12/31 or 1/1, what does that mean? IF my workout plan happens to say I workout this week on 12/31 and 1/1, then fantastic, I will be there in the gym. IF not, oh well. What matters is if you stay consistent for the rest of the year (and ultimately your life).

go for it april!!!

fred-well, i agree that you should be consistent on those days and they shouldnt be different than any other days but being that they are tough days for some (well me if im speaking for myself) why not make it a challenge and be held accountable so that we can report in and have the support from one another so that we can more likely remain consistent?

Why are those days tough? Why are they any tougher than any Monday after a long/hard weekend? Sorry, I guess I don't get it. Over drinking? Not trying to be rude, just don't understand.

I won't know until lauren posts the WOD on the site.

Tonight, it's this:

Five rounds, for time, of:
50 sumo deadlift high pulls (kettlebell @ 35#)
50 air squats
30 standing back extensions (dumbbell @ 30#)

3, 2, 1, Go!
