I love to eat. Carbs is my weakness link that I always lose control in front of it.
I started running for fitness in 2007. Ever since I finished the 1st marathon (San Diego RnR 2007), I am addicted to running.
I started traineoing in Nov 2007. I have reached my goal weight in Jun 08 already. But, now, I don't care much about my weight. I care about it only if it affects my running performance.

1st goal met. I ran the Carlsbad Marathon on Jan 20, 2008 and beat my last marathon record with 35:50.
Remaining goals and progress as of Jan 22, 2008:
2. Yoga once a week - explored some yoga class already. In the process of practising some pose to be ready to commit to a class. I should be able to find a suitable one by Mar or April
3. Start weight training regularly - in the process of finding out proper form and frequecy of wt training.
4. Lose 5 lbs - no progress yet.
5. Be more consistent in diet and learn portion control - still learning
6. Play better tennis - start practicing on every Sunday
7. Run 2 half marathons - in the process of shopping good races.
8. Run at least 1 more full marathon - in the process of shopping good races.
9. Recruit a US runner team to race Dean's England runner team virtually and beat them. - Got 2 interested US team members already. Currently, I am waiting for Dean's feedback before posting the detail and recruiting more runners.
Where are you, Dean? Have not seen in traineo for a while.

I have started two new blogs, one to follow my running and a Quest to a Marathon at blog.262quest.com and one to follow my weight loss at blog.2big.org, please check them out.
I am an IT professional / Developer which means I sit in front of a computer most of the day. This means very little exercise and plenty of time to eat.
I decided at the first of the year that I was going to lose weight. I started by changing my eating habits and started walking.
I did so for about a month and then added some weight lifting and started to run a little bit.
I have so far lost 29 lbs in just over 3 months and would like to lose just over another 50 lbs by the end of the year.
I have started running quite a bit more and am training to run the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on July 4th (10k)
I need all the encouragement I can get because to do this I am getting up every morning during the week at 4:30 to go running. With a wife and kids this is really the only time that I can consistently do what I need to do.
I am driven, but at times get a bit discouraged because I don't have anybody to work out with or run with.
All in All, I know I can do it, I just have to remember that when I don't do so well, it is in the past and what matters is going forward.

I am here!!
Sorry I dissappear every now and again, I always keep my diary really full and often appear to vanish every now and again.
I spent last weekend in Sweden/ Finland and didn't chase up my mail. I'm sifting through it all now and making sure I respond to everyone.
It's nice when people notice that you're gone.
Have some developments with my ankle. Therapist doesn't want me running on it at the moment. NoOO!! He says they are so imbalanced due to the injury that I need to rectify that first. I'll see what I can sort out, maybe in the short term I can do my miles on the rower?

Great to see you back, Dean! We miss you.
You must have a great time in Sweden/Finland. Cold there?
I am sorry about your ankle. I once have overtrained myself and got injuried. The doctor told me to stop running. THat's not the solution I wanted to hear! I did only R.I.C.E for weeks and slowly got back to run again. I did not see that doctor anymore. It is frustated when you cannot run because of injury.
I wish your ankle recover well and soon. Then, you are always welcome to challenge our US team. We are waiting for you.

Thanks Glovia, its great to be back!!
Finland was about 0C, normally this time of year is -5 to -10C so I didn't complain. It was a great experience and I'd love to go back one day.
Ankle is just an old injury now that didn't fully recover. It will be fine in the finish.
Thanks again for everyone's kind words

I am a student in university so we all know what that means....
The freshmen 15 increased to 50, but that was over 4 years. I finally made it to the gym at the end of September and haven't looked back.
23 pounds down, 27 to go.
|
# Posted: 9 Feb 2008 03:14
My goal for 2008 is to finally lose all of the weight gained in university (50 lbs in total). But I hope to reach that in May.
For all of 2008, I want complete what I just said but also stay on track (i.e. going to the gym regularly and eating healthy, as I am doing now) and if I am able to lose more and become more toned that would be wonderful.
They may not be as ambitious as some others that I have read, but that's something I can think about after I have reached my goal. Too many goals would be too much, I am just keeping it simple for now.
Things like a 5k run will have to wait for at least 3 months before I start to think of things like that.

Both Dean and I are ready. We plan to start the race on March 17. We are in the process of finalizing the rules/requirements now. As soon as Dean feedback to my input, I will create a seperate topic to track our race.

Progress as of April 27, 2008:
1. Beat my own record in a marathon in Jan - I ran the Carlsbad Marathon on Jan 20, 2008 and beat my last marathon record with 35:50. -" Met on Jan 20, 2008.
2. Yoga once a week - I have been attending a yoga class for a month already. I start seeing the benefits to my muscle stretching that I have been lacking/not-paying attention to. I believe I will continue yoga. If I am still attending the yoga class in Dec, I can declare goal met. -" Goal 50% met
3. Start weight training regularly - I have been attending a 2/wk boot camp for 5 wks already. I really enjoy it and also start seeing the good result of wt. I have signed up another 5 week session already. By Dec, if I am still attending the boot camp or going to the gym 3x/wk for wt, I can declare goal met. -" Goal 50% met.
4. Lose 5 lbs - no progress yet. - lost only 1lb since last log on April 18. But, I did lost % of bf. My nutritionist said my progress is slow, but not bad at all because I am a relatively “small” person. I will keep going!
5. Be more consistent in diet and learn portion control - still learning. I have better control in simple carbs now and incorporated more protein already. Portion control is still up and down. Need to work harder!
6. Play better tennis - " I have been playing tennis on either Sat or Sun. I could rally better now. But, I am not satisfied yet. I want to be able to serve strong and my tennis friends are willing to play game with me.
7. Run 2 half marathons - " Just finished the La Jolla Half Marathon on April 27 today. My chip time is 2:28:17. It was 6:07 better than my last half marathon (the AFC on August 20, 2007). -" Goal 50% met!
8. Run at least 1 more full marathon - " Have already signed up the June 1, 08 San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon already. I am hoping to beat my last record for 10min and be a sub-5 runner. (The 2007 San Diego Rock n Roll was my 1st race and 1st marathon. It has changed my life after completing it. I am addicted now. ) - Unless I am injuried or sick, I should be able to rock again on June 1. Then, I can declare goal met!
9. Recruit a US runner team to race Dean's England runner team virtually and beat them. -" It is already in progress. The US team has won and lost in different weeks.- Goal 50% met!

But that is by September...
Kidding.
1) Lose... 25-ish pounds.
2) Improve my vegetarian diet
3) Gain more muscle
4) Maintain these goals throughout the next two semesters at school.

is it too late for 2008 goal setting?
i put on some pounds with my training, around six of them, but my bf% dropped, and so did my inches. 2005 pants size 38/40x32. 2008 pants size 29/30x32.
still. i want to really tear up that fat, make it easier on my joints for running. so i'm not going to take advantage of the fact that i can eat WHATEVER for the month of june. try to lose four pounds, then two more in july before the triathlon july 19, while continuing to do cardio and 2 days of weights.
other goals.
sub 19m 5k.
start yoga at some point, improve range of motion for running stride, swimming, and bike stroke.
6m40s 500y swim.
15 miles/week of running. 6km/week swimming. 30 miles/week biking. this is probably disproportional, but it's a step up (and thus a goal).

I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

I want to run a couple 5K's this year, and maybe a 10k this fall or in the spring.. Not sure if I'd really be into the long distance running that you enjoy, but I can only imagine what an accomplishment it would be to complete a marathon!

8. Run at least 1 more full marathon - Finsihed the San Diego RnR Marathon in 4:56:39 on Jun 1, 2008. It was 55:07 improvement from last year I ran it. It was 13:11 improvement from the Jan 24, 2008. I am a sub-5 marathoner now. - goal met
9. Recruit a US runner team to race Dean's England runner team virtually and beat them. - the US team has lost based on the rule of weekly average mileage. However, in terms of consistency, the US team won. Nobody has dropped out from the race and most of us were motivated. - 50% goal met.

Looking to add some muscle over the next few months. Trying to get in those calories and focusing on the compound lifts. We'll see how it all goes :)

Hmm I guess I'll set my goals
200lb with 10% BF by end of year (so 180lbs lean muscle 20lbs fat)
Consistent 300+ Bench (only hit 305 once)
Consistent 450+ Squat
Consistent 350+ Deadlift
Got about 4 months to do it all but we'll see how it gets done

Quoting: wayofthewarrior Wheat and dairy are famous for causing allergies, and often the symptoms are masked.
is this why i always feel sick to my stomach after eating something 100% whole wheat? i can deal with the 60% ok but the other one makes me feel awful everytime i eat it.
goals for the 6-8 months
my goals are: 1)more portion and calorie control(working on it, working on it)
2) tone up more
3)up workouts to six times a week
4)more yoga
5) be able to eventually see if i actually have hip bones and a butt and not two VERY large round lumps of fat......
6) start cooking low fat meals more often and cut back on easy to make or ready made foods
7) start baking more so i can have sugar free alternatives for my sweet cravings.
8) start turbo jam and keep up
9) start learning different kinds of dance workouts(bollywood, industrial strength, tahitian and hula, exotic) and accept i might not ever be graceful and fluid like them but i can still enjoy shaking what i got.
10) find some confidence and self esteem.
Edited to add: forgot to add "finish crocheting that bloody blanket by x-mas" maybe if i put it here it will remind me it needs to be done.
