Well i joined a rowing club a few weeks ago as i found myself doing nothing during the weekdays but work and sleep. I have tried the whole Gym scene throughout college & last year when i started work in Dublin but i quickly lose the motivation to keep it up. Now I'm sure there are people who love the public gyms but i don't. Training with the rowing club is basically workign in a gym using weights or a rowing machine but the difference is you are working with a group of people you feel if you miss out in training you are lettign the team down and also you don't want to fall behind.

I'm amazed how easy it is to motivate myself to go out training (and even get up early weekends to head out on the water). When i'm coming close to the end of my working day I'm not thinking "will i/ won't i go to the gym", i'm thinking "will i finish work in time for training". I am very unfit and i really want to get to the same level as the other lads in the team. With work i miss a good few days but i try my best and go to training whenever i can.

Our trainer has a plan made out for us and it changes now and again so it doesn't get boring.

I think if any of ye are struggling to get motivated to go to the gym then you should seriously consider taking up sport that involves joining a club. Memberships can be cheaper than a years gym membership and you get to meet new people and even get a few social nights out of it.

Anyway hope this was helpful to some people and all the best.

Slán,

Donal.

I enjoy gyms, but I'm looking forward to track season. My friend is training me as a thrower, and everyone usually makes the team. I'm a bit nervous because I don't have the mass to put behind the shot put that my friends who throw do-I'm shorter by a good 4 inches, and lighter by 100 pounds or so. My school makes even the throwers run insane amounts that I won't even have to go to the gym.

I also think joining a club or team is better. I joined a running club early this year. Now, I am hooked to running. I am sure I won't enjoy or love running if I did not join the club. During training, I have a group of people running together, share technique, experience and chellenge each other.

However, working out in the gym also has benefit. Sometimes, I run in the gym as a self training to myself. I could be more focus on my form, speed, distance, etc.
