Partners are always appreciative when they realise how your goal benefits them as well.
As a man, I know what it is like for girlfriends to prefer me putting on weight and staying in the evenings. This way they get more time with me, and less of their friends will ever fancy me. Sounds crazy, but it has happened to me. They were scared that as I aspired to my true potential I would leave them? Or be poached by a better looking offer?
Maybe cos I work in sales I could see this insecurity and see it for what it was. When I set a 3 month goal that they were involved with, they could see that I was planning the next 3 months with them. Then the celebration would re-affirm that. They wanted me to succeed all along, they just didn't want me to outgrow them. The human mind can be quite vulnerable at times, so look after eachother.

Words to live by: "Now's the time to grab the steering wheel of your life. Delve deep within yourself and take responsibility for your health and behavior. Ask yourself hard questions and face the truth of what needs to be done. Weight loss is not always easy or fair but you are the only one that can lose weight for you. Take a turn for the better!"
Goals: 1) Lose ~45 pounds 2) Work out at least 6 days a week 3) Eat healthier consistently
I will reward myself at the following weights: 240, 235, 230, 225, 220, 215, 205, 200, 195, 190
I will reassess my goals after I have met the above goals.

Nice.
Can sleep be considered a reward too?

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

hehehe, sometimes it feels like it should be! Sleep, however, should be a part of your routine - make sure you are getting enough because you need it for recovery. Like drinking enough water, getting enough sleep is paramount to staying healthy and being successful.

Dave is right,
Sleep is so important that I virtually NEVER neglect my kip. I'm in bed at 10pm and my alarm goes at 6 am. Regular as clockwork!
However, I do reward myself with lay ins on a weekend if I deserve it.

I love to eat. Carbs is my weakness link that I always lose control in front of it.
I started running for fitness in 2007. Ever since I finished the 1st marathon (San Diego RnR 2007), I am addicted to running.
I started traineoing in Nov 2007. I have reached my goal weight in Jun 08 already. But, now, I don't care much about my weight. I care about it only if it affects my running performance.

Great tips, Dean. Let me think of something to get my boyfriend involve and support my goal.

i have to agree, i use sleep as a reward quite often because until i finished school a few weeks back, study often restricted my sleep. i'd often go for a ride or a walk and then have a nap when i got home, and i found that it worked quite well, since it stopped me from eating straight after a workout. that and sleep is so important, it's been linked to maintaining a healthy weight in so many studies it's not funny! so if you're living a lifestyle that means you get sleep deprived sometimes, there's no harm in a nap, especially if it helps you curb bad food cravings.
