So I'm having trouble staying on top of working out. I've been so busy with school and work that I'm drained by the time I get home. Anyways what are some good motivations to get on top of this. Also just the other day I injured myself while roller skating with some friends so at the moment I'm kind of limited on what I can do. I had twisted my leg and now I have a sharp pain from about or near the back of my knee to down close to my ankle. Again limited to what I can I think I might have pulled a muscle.

Anyways one of the things I'm going to be using to help me out is the Wii. Unfortunately at the moment I can't use this as it requires standing for full motion activity, DDR (again limited), and Runing at the gym (can't run at the moment). So what are my alternatives I'm think push ups but I'm not quite sure I'll be able to with this injury.

Maybe try some intense stretching in the morning. You can find lots of poses that will avoid your injury, and if you do it first thing in the morning you'll have it done and out of the way in case the rest of the day gets away from you. Use the first 5 mins to get "warm" and then push yourself for 15 mins or so. You should be able to work up a good sweat doing this. Maybe work in a few push ups if you're up for it. Stretching can provide a very nice low impact workout while recovering from injury.

Sometimes you just have to wait and get better! You don't want to do anything that will jeopardize getting back to 100% because only then can you really work out with intensity... try walking, swimming - anything just taking it easy but moving...

And when you are feeling better, you'll notice that the more you work out, the more energy you will have. It takes a few weeks (3-5) of getting some work out most days to really get into the swing of doing it, but you'll notice almost within the first couple weeks that you feel more motivated and energetic.

Hi Dave,
I am new to this board and Judddd too. I am sorry about your injury. Here is my workout advice..... try doing Windsor Pilates. You could do them with a leg injury because you use mostly your core muscles. I know that men don't generally look at pilates as an exercise for them, but a man invented them! Give them a try, you might like them.

i agree with dave-you might need to rest up and get better, but if you arent going to listen to that advic, as others have said maybe some stretching, light walking, or swimming. also, if you belong to a gym sometimes they have this machine you can use for your arms. it looks really easy but you can adjust the levels and it could be a good, hard work out. you move your arms in circles. it is good cardio and a good arm workout.

i'd get your leg checked out if it keeps hurting. i hurt my knee when i was 14 in bball and never had it fixed and now it clicks and bothers me after my runs or when i go on the elliptical. other than that, you just need to set goals for yourself when you go to the gym. you have to get addicted to it.
i can't go many days w.o. exercising hardcore. idk i gues my body feeds off the adrenaline rush or the feeling of letting all my stress out. just stick with it and it will be hard in the beginning, but after a couple weeks you will feel differently about it.

Thank you everyone for your advice and encouragement and I will take each one to heart.

Jocelyn I think I am going to do just that. My leg isn't in serious amount anymore but it still is slightly painful close to my knee and lower are partially behind the calf more so on the side. I noticed when I was taking a shower early that when I raised my leg my ankle would make that crack/clicking sound. However now that is not the case and is no longer doing that. I'm still having difficulty walking a bit, I limp a little not that much I can slightly walk regularly if you know what I'm talking about.

Also when I push up on the ball part of my ankle I start getting some slight pain in my calf. This isn't normal is it?

I think I'm going to wait it out another day. If I still have the same amount of pain as I do today I think I'll make an appointment. For some odd reason whenever I make a doctors appointment the day I have to go everything goes away.

I'd definitely get it checked out. The trainer at my school helped me rehab my sprained ankle a bunch of times, and I bet you've got some good resources available to you in college.

If you really wanna get a workout in, I'd try pushups and sit-ups, or also you could lift weights for your upper body. If you decide to start lifting, make sure it's nothing too strenuous because you might be using your legs for balance/support while doing certain lifts, so light weights are probably your best option. Also, the nice thing about lifting is that it feels like a cardiovascular workout, even while you're making your muscles bigger.

Try and do the workouts before school. I did that and it helps.

And never skip, even if you cut your workout in half, you'll still keep the routine and workout.

15 minutes is better than nothing.
