I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

Hey all,
Just had a fantastic workout and wanted to share - its this feeling that keeps me motivated! Yesterday I worked out with Satan (my roommate that looks like a cross between a CK model and a professional body builder), and was dead sore! He's great to work out with because I am competitively inspired to at least do as many sets as him even though I can't lift as much weight.
After that I was just going to drag myself through 20min on the elliptical today, but got talking w/ my friend and decided that instead of hitting the gym at work for some short cardio, I would go with him and another buddy to move some weight again... I got there a little early so got a 10min warmup in on the tread, and we headed in. I got 5 sets incline press (increasing my weight from last week by 20%, one superset), 5 sets bench press (ditto on increase and supersetX2), shoulder/trap lift X 3, assisted dips X 3, tri extension using lat bar X 6 (to exhaustion), and 3 sets of shrugs (not to exhaustion, but I couldn't grip the weight anymore)... I feel like I really pushed these guys a little bit to do more than they otherwise would have, and I think I helped out some on their form too, which means they'll be safer when we all start lifting heavier weights.
So I feel great! Good sore and looking forward to legs w/ Satan tomorrow, and before that a nice hot shower and some lean protein tonight.
woot!

Elicia :)
I'm so proud of my abs....so I had to post them! Been weight training pretty seriously for the past 4 mos and I'm finally noticing some definition. Still have a way to go to get the much desired six pack, but off to a good start!

Good for you! I wish I had a friend that could kick my a*s like that!! My friends think I'm crazy that I get so excited over exercise but it really does make you feel great - especially when you can push the envelope and succeed. Keep up the good work

That's good to hear Dave. I used to work out with a friend when I was in college, and having someone else there to push me and keep me competitive really helped. Keep it up, you'll see great results!

Kick your own ass, Dave!
I work out solo too, (well, often on the trails with the dog, but he's not much for talking, AND he's deaf, so he sucks at listening), but I'd sure love to have a pal to share the drops of sweat with.
It's great that you have such an inspirational workout parnter, Nicholman.

Looking to add some muscle over the next few months. Trying to get in those calories and focusing on the compound lifts. We'll see how it all goes :)

Grats on the good wookout and i'm there with the rest of you in wanting a good workout partner.
Had a friend drop in for the weekend and we worked out one night together and I maxed out on some weights that I can't when working out solo at night.
They keep you motivated, push you more, and help you hit those goals faster!
Keep up the good work Dave!

Words to live by: "Now's the time to grab the steering wheel of your life. Delve deep within yourself and take responsibility for your health and behavior. Ask yourself hard questions and face the truth of what needs to be done. Weight loss is not always easy or fair but you are the only one that can lose weight for you. Take a turn for the better!"
Goals: 1) Lose ~45 pounds 2) Work out at least 6 days a week 3) Eat healthier consistently
I will reward myself at the following weights: 240, 235, 230, 225, 220, 215, 205, 200, 195, 190
I will reassess my goals after I have met the above goals.

Congratulations Dave.
I know exactly what you mean about competitvely lifting at the gym. When I used to go (I fell off the bandwagon, but I'm getting back on), I would find myself competing with other people that were lifting. I'm not sure why, but it helped me a lot and in no time I was lifting more than I ever had.
Definitely take advantage of having a workout buddy (or in your case, buddies!) because we aren't all as fortunate...
 Kudos!!!
