I have been a couch potato almost all my life but never too overweight. That is, until I crossed 30 and gained about 50 lbs. in last seven years without noticing it.
We went on a trip to Canada a month ago and there is a particular photograph of me in profile where I am sporting a HUGE tummy. Ugh! The scales showed my 5'6'' tiny frame was carrying around 182lbs.
I have already lost 15 lbs. in last 30 days and working towards running a 5K as soon as possible, with the long-term goal of running a marathon. Now I am gaining couple of pounds but am confident it is muscle since I exercise daily, have stopped all breads and sugars and control my diet very carefully, with lots of fruits and veggies.
Can already see the difference. My son will turn 4 next month and he is my main inspiration to keep going. I have been teaching him to play soccer, basketball and just romping around.
Life is great.
Looking forward to motivation from the terrific people here.
Rgds,
R.

You have been my friend. That in itself is a tremendous thing. I wove my webs for you because I liked you. After all, what's a life, anyway? We're born, we live a little while, we die. A spider's life can't help being something of a mess, with all this trapping and eating flies. By helping you, perhaps I was trying to lift up my life a trifle. Heaven knows anyone's life can stand a little of that.

Tell me not, in mournful numbers, Life is but an empty dream! For the soul is dead that slumbers, and things are not what they seem. Life is real! Life is earnest! And the grave is not its goal; Dust thou art; to dust returnest, Was not spoken of the soul.

Everything has been figured out, except how to live.

A few ups and downs with the weight lately. Losing those last 10 lbs again now. Revised fitness plan: -some cardio EVERY day for a month to remove the revenge of the hip fat -some weight training, some pilates -I love biking and lots of fun summer sports! That's what it's all about-good times!
I will eat healthy foods and let my body weigh what it wants to weigh. I concentrate on whole grains, lean proteins, fruits and veggies, and I will eat delicious chocolate when I want to! Guilt has been removed from my vocabulary.

It is great to see you have both short term and long term goals, I think this is important. You are setting a great example for your son by making fun activities a part of your life. Keep us posted on your progress, Rajesh.

My goal is 180 lbs. My highest was 265. I'm currently at 207. I've lost about 6-8 inches off my waist since beginning this journey. I'm 28, married and in the commercial insurance field. I'm trying to build a better "me". :o)

Congrats on your weight loss.
I've lost 30 lbs in the past 2.5-3 months, myself.
My first goal was to lose 20 lbs by the end of summer. I've exceeded that. I wanted to look decent for our company beach trip. (I felt like a slob last year. I showed up this year 40 lbs lighter.) I feel I exceeded that, as well.
My next goal is to reach my goal weight by 2/23 (my birthday).
So, yeah, it is important to set short and long term goals.
My first goal is to lose the weight. My next goal is to cut up and become a healthier, better version of me.
Congrats and keep up the good work!

Wow congrats.
I lost around 15 pounds over the last 4 or 5 months....easier to stick too if it's not a strict diet.

About me: --------------------------- I'm an architecture student at a great school.
After trial and error, managed to shed the pounds for real.
What I'm doing: --------------------------- Portion control still a problem. HIIT 2x/week Starting weights 1x/week
I take stairs over escalator and elevator ALL THE TIME (I climb 6 sets of stairs minimum for the day at the metro 2-3floors?).
Extra note: --------------------------- I finally understand what being fit means! And I actually love running now thanks to HIIT.
Goal: lose the belly fat! My problem area. First goal: 120lbs - MET 2nd goal: 116lbs - MET 3rd goal: 112lbs ish with more muscle definition
Realizing I can't change the way my body stores fat and have a noticeable belly during the day (pic was morning with light breakfast after workout) I will work on making a stronger core to counter the pooch a bit
Dropped 1 pant size since last year (stable weight) Dropped 2 pant sizes since mid-Summer after Greece (pastries=weight gain)

what motivates me is knowing I was able to lose 3-4lbs in a month, then gain 7lbs in a month, and then lose 7lbs in 6 weeks. So I know I can do it if I work hard.
And since I'm really into it now, what motivates me is to keep making those small changes each and every single day to get to my goal, ultimately in a month or a month and a half. Having some of my clothes looser is definitely motivation, and passing by the mirror and seeing my tummy a bit smaller every couple of weeks is definitely motivating me!
And this site and support I've got here is the biggest help for me because I can't get it anywhere else.

You hit the nail on the head when you spoke of your son. You have to find a reason, and it is always better when the reason is bigger than yourself, because that is when you finally realise how important you are as an individual. Sounds crazy but it is true.
Think of the benefits that the things you love will experience when you are on top of your game, then realise the power of influence you have in this world, then fall in love with how powerful you are as an individual.
If you could provide that world to the ones/ things that you love, then you should.

I have 2 motivations and in no particular order they are:
first, I've been getting serious about my music playing and I feel that I need more energy/lung capacity if I were to make the transition to professional musician. Also, as far as I know there has never been a fat rock star.
second, "you're too nice" is really a code phrase for "your body is too unattractive for me to be intimate with you"

I'm really into working out and getting back in shape. I have a blog that talks about my progress as well as health and exercise tips, and anything fitness related. It's called WorkinOnMyFitness.com. I hope to meet people to learn more about getting into the best shape I can be! :)

Great to hear that you're motivated to live a healthy lifestyle... it's definitely a good choice. I've also started to do the same thing... and my first goal was to run a 5k, and after I did it, it felt really good knowing I reached my goal.

Hi! I'm a 44 year-old slightly overweight male looking to loose 30lbs by the end of year. For me, weight loss is just one part of an overall plan for living a healthier lifestyle (as healthy a lifestyle as possible!) In addition to diet and exercise, other elements of my healthy way of life include good sleep, proper hydration, kicking the (smoking) habit, meditation, and disease management (I have rheumatoid arthritis).
I signed up at Traineo because maintaining routines has always been difficult for me. 3 years ago however, after many tries, I was finally able to maintain an exercise routine for a period of 6 months with outstanding results. I then stopped working out so I'd have more time for other things and 3 months later the RA got worse. Since then I've been unable to motivate myself back into the gym.
Well, my motivation is back, due in part to Traineo. I think having a few motivators will be a great help. Also, posting my efforts on the Internet, for the whole world to see, may help to keep me on my toes. I'm not entirely sure about that yet so I may change my profile so only Traineo members can see it.
I'm strong willed, but most of all I crave the results I achieved 3 years ago. So I'm determined, and thus far my spirits remain high. I sure am glad you stopped to read about me and great luck with your own efforts! Cheers!

Hey Rajesh,
I remember that first photo of myself with a belly - it's a shocker, isn't it?
I've noticed a number of Traineo members who have kids. I think it's great when parents make positive changes for themselves in the eyes of their children. What a great thing to teach kids in our junk-food, couch-potato society.
You seem to have a great attitude Rajesh, keep up the good work!!

Hello all,
I have a much smaller potbelly now(waist gone down from 36 to 30) but it exists. Target is to lose 12 lbs by end of October before my son's(henceforth DS for dear son) 4th b'day.
DS has joined in the effort with me. I was reading a night-time story to him when he suddenly decided to quiz me on my reasons for going to the gym. Once I was done, he tried to be helpful by trying to push my belly in I had to tuck it in and hold my breath long enough to make him happy.
Onwards!
- R.
