People I know I find more inspiring than a celluloid image.

An old drinking buddy who got crazy into her gym and started putting off happy hour to take an aerobics class.

My mother who goes to the gym every day and has completely changed her body.

and just about every female boxer I see.

A little over a month, and I'll let that Rangers comment go, so we don't hijack this thread with hockey wars.

My best friend.

We're the same height and weight, but he has a lot more muscle than I do.

We have the same lunch and he yells at me if I go for fries instead of fruit or a slushie instead of water...I don't really need that as much, but when I first started trying to be healthy I did (my lunch used to consist of a slushie and 2 double chocolate chip cookies, now it's yogurt, a granola bar, and a little fruit).

Without him I'd probably have reached 175 lbs (I was 158.6 at my heaviest), and considering I look chubby now, I would NOT want to see myself at 175.

Not my mantra, but it makes sense: "Listen to the Maintainers, not the Losers."

People who've lost weight or gained muscle deserve admiration, but this goes tenfold for people who've lost/gained and stayed that way. Lifelong competitive athletes are great fitness rolemodels.

I'm still looking for a hard-gainer athlete to look up to. I admire a number of people, but I'm not entirely sure that I can attain goals exactly as they did, since our situations are somewhat different (genetically and culturally). I do think a lot of bad eating habits and lack of activity are in part culturally assimilated.

that could be so. i grew up around mom, who has horrible eating habits. but both jesse and i eat healthy and are very active. it's part of the all-american sub-culture, where you try to be the best athlete and student at the same time. i'm sure it's something dad wouldn't have advocated.
