I am 34 years old, married and a father of a 2.5 year old. They are the motivators for me to reach my goal. I started the new journey on 8/21/06 @307 lbs and as of June '08, I have lost around 108 lbs. I have been able to keep 100 lb weight loss since Sept. '07. What keeps me on track is the Traineo community, vision of a healthy and fit future and the mini-goals below. *GOAL 1 = 244 lbs, Date = 2/15/07 Date Met = 2/7/07 *GOAL 2 = 229 lbs, Date = 3/22/07 Date Met = 3/30/07 ________________________ *GOAL 3 = 199 lbs, Date = 6/30/08 Date Met = 6/5/08 *GOAL 4 = 185 lbs, Date = 09/30/08 Date Met = TBD (185 is my "ultimate" goal. Then build muscle.)
Hobbies/Interests: Baseball, White Sox, bowling, WII, Xbox 360, PSP, XM, Opie and Anthony radio show, Ron and Fez radio show, variety of music, working out, running.
Personal Records: 5K - 26:18 (4/14/08-8:29/mile pace) 10K- 54:56-9/16/07-(8:43/mile pace) 10 Mile Run - CXLD due to injury Marathon - 10/12/08
Advice: - Set a Deadline: "A goal is a dream with a deadline - Napolean Hill." - Set Mini Goals - They help you accomplish small milestones on your way to the "ultimate" goal. - Track your progress. - Plan everything out. Daily workout routines, meals, etc. - Be patient. Your goals will eventually be met, if you work hard.

Your biggest motivation should be that you want to be healthy and want to feel better.
IF you are really overweight and can't control what you eath, then you have to stop being selfish by just eating whatever you want. This is taking years off of your life, just because you want to enjoy some EXTRA food right now.
No one can REALLY motivate you. You have to dig deep and LIST ALL the reasons why you want to do this and you have to setup some goals with dates and meet and beat these goals.
Good luck on the JOURNEY to the new you!

Fred is correct it is a Journey. One way I looked at I was digging my grave with my teeth. Now I am digging out by eating more fruits and vegtables as well as increasing exercise. Just get out and move. One thing that inspired was watching a video on Team Hoyt. Do a google search on it give it a try. Best of luck To you..

Everyone wants to move toward that which is perceived as pleasurable and away from that which is painful. So when someone says 'I know what I want to do, but I can't do it,' what they're really saying is "what I have to do is more painful than what I'm doing now." When the pain of being fat finally outweighs the pleasure of eating, that's when motivation translates to action. (excerpt from Clean Eating magazine)
For me, the emotional pain of wanting to run faster and being unable to do so because I need to lose some weight OUTWEIGHS the perceived discomfort of passing up an ice cream sandwich.
The emotional pain of wanting to have fun at the Urban Assault Race but instead feeling self conscious about being overweight causes more pain for me than putting in the miles on my bike and making the sacrifices in my diet.
The phrase from Clean Eating magazine put some umph in my motivation and made it all make sense. Hope it helps!

I am a married 28 year old mother of three (7, 5, and 7 months). I started putting on weight in the 5th grade and have been battleing my weight since then. I finally lost weight by pretty much starving myself and from 1999 to 2001 I stayed a size 7-9. I got pregnant with my second child and of course could no longer starve myself, overate big time and put on 75 lbs during my pregnancy. That was 5 years ago. I have had major struggles with my weight since then. Go on a diet, don't have the will power to stay on it, gain the weight back plus some. I topped out at 220 lbs right before getting pregnant with my third child. During my pregnancy I went from 220 lbs to 195 lbs (weight in January of this year). By march I was at 200.5 lbs and decided that was it, I had to change my life....

I am 46 with a beautiful wife and 3 great kids (teens 22). I have a back ground in Christian Ministry, Coaching and Fitness training and Sports. I blew up to 355 lbs after surgery, injuries and illness. Now I have lost 60 lbs in 4 months and am still losing. I feel great. This is for the whole enchilada.

Hello Ben,
Don't be discouraged or give up. If I can do it anyone can. You can too.
I have had major surgery, weighed more than 355 pounds, am 46 years old and have had numerous injuries and illnesses. With all of this I now weigh less than 295 pounds in just 4 months and am still losing inches and pounds. I do weight train twice a week now and do 20 minutes of moderate cardio on my off days leaving one day with no exercise, but I started off with no energy for exercise. I started drinking the Wuyi Oolong tea that Oprah and Rachael Ray drink when they want to drop a few pounds. It really works. Its a powerful fat burner that gave me energy that I needed to do what I had to do, but mostly it is the best appetite suppressant I have ever tried. You can get the best deals on E-bay auctions, just make sure its the Wuyi Oolong tea and not just the regular Oolong or Wulong tea. Theres a big difference. The Flower Brand worked best for me and it was more convenient in the bags. This is the first thing out of many many things that I have tried that has helped me be consistent in losing weight and energizing me for so long with no side effects. It also seems to have other health benefits as well. Hope it helps you.
Some other tips that really helped me are:
*Don't diet, change your lifestyle.
*Eat 5 or more smaller meals a day instead of 3 larger ones
*Make breakfast your biggest meal of the day
*Cut out ALL white sugar, corn syrup, white flour, saturated fats and soda
*Eat plenty of fresh fruits, veggies, raw nuts (not peanuts), good fats and quality lean meats.
*Treat your self once or twice a week, but if you can hold out for a while you will find you really don't want the bad stuff anymore.
*Don't count the pounds as much as how your clothes fit. Then every so often weigh in.
*Start a educated weight program only 2 times a week
*Moderately do cardio exercise in between weight training days [1-20 minutes or even better 2-15 minutes (morning & night)] To much cardio tears down muscle. Muscle helps you burn fat.
Finally, don't go by your feelings. We all have bad days and feel like we're not making progress. Live by what you know to be true. Keep doing the good, don't beat yourself up if you stumble, get back to it and win. If you do anything for 40 days or more it becomes habit, for good or bad. You really can do it.
God bless,
Jay

A few ups and downs with the weight lately. Losing those last 10 lbs again now. Revised fitness plan: -some cardio EVERY day for a month to remove the revenge of the hip fat -some weight training, some pilates -I love biking and lots of fun summer sports! That's what it's all about-good times!
I will eat healthy foods and let my body weigh what it wants to weigh. I concentrate on whole grains, lean proteins, fruits and veggies, and I will eat delicious chocolate when I want to! Guilt has been removed from my vocabulary.
The wave of passion can be an unstoppable force.

Set up your environment for success. Get those problem foods out of the house, and bring in new, good foods. I do believe those white flours and sugars are addictive and once you break those addictions (takes about a week), it gets a whole lot easier. This stuff is basically borrowed from Dr Phil, but hey, it worked for me.
Also, make sure you get moving. Find something fun for cardio, sweating is required! Exercise gets easier, too. You can do it!
