Hey howdy shucks, people. I'm new here. What's good?

I just wanted to recommend to everyone a book that has played a part in my recent motivation to get healthy -- I'm on Week 5 of a new fitness regimen and this book has been instrumental to changing my attitude towards exercise and fitness goals:

Creative Fitness: Applying Health Psychology and Exercise Science to Everyday Life, by Henry Biller (link goes to Amazon)

This book appealed to me in its positive, inclusive approach to all forms of exercise and activity. Throughout, the emphasis of the book is on improving quality of your life and your relationship with your body, creating a lifestyle that suits you, and ultimately, recapturing the physical and psychological benefits of playful activity. Really, the book is oriented towards changing the attitude of "I have to exercise" to "I want to exercise."

The book is organized by different themes into chapters, focusing on nutrition, stretching, weight training, and lifestyle, and while it does tend to get repetitive, it's easy to start reading at whatever subject interests for a quick jolt of motivation. The book is full of hints, ideas, and things to consider as you develop your fitness regimen, but pleasantly (in my opinion), it does not give you a hard & fast rules to abide. The tone, rather than being rigid and prescriptive, is really inclusive and suggestive.

Highly recommended!

In any case, I'd love to invite everyone else to suggest any reading material -- books, magazines, websites, blogs, or whatever -- that have helped you get moving.

Thanks,
& nice to meet ya!

- Elmo

I absolutely LIVE for the weekly transformation stories on www.bodybuilding.com These keep me going like no other. If so many "normal" and "overweight" people can make such great changes, surely I can keep going, too.
