I am a mother of one. I had always been somewhat underweight, but during my pregnancy gained and gained and gained. I could not control the urges to eat. I even ate foods that I HATE.
Now, nearly three years after the birth of my DS, I am taking my life back; I'm reclaiming my health and vowing to not just be a mother to my son, a wife to my husband, but to be confident and feel attractive again.
I welcome any help and encouragement.

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone would like to join me for a 90-day workout-get-healthy challenge.
My personal goals include losing 40 pounds, working out at least 4 times per week and eating healthy. I'm considering trying CRON, but for the moment, I think that working out is going to be critical for me.
At any rate, hoping that someone or many someones would be willing to join me.
I plan on starting next Sunday.
Cheers!
Sonja

Sonja,
I'm in. I'm a 54 year old asthmatic who is in this to regain what I can of my life.
This is also the 3rd time I've tried to respond to you, I'm losing patience with myself!
I started the South Beach Diet per instructions of my husband's doctor -- his cholesterol and weight keep climbing. I decided that I DESERVE to be as healthy as possible, and started this for myself.
I don't know what CRON is, so can't make a comment on that. I have 43 pounds to go to get to my current target goal -- I've already dropped 10. I can do this, and I DESERVE IT!
I knew things weren't going well tonight. I am decreasing prednisone for my asthmo, I started working out. 20 minutes later on the cycle, I needed to keep going. 6 minutes later, I still wasn't able to come to a stop. I got on the stepper. After less than 2 minutes I was ready to give up! I wish there was an intermidiate step-- somewhere between "I think I'm going to die" and "this is easy!"

Hi Mary!
Whew...I was worried that I was going to be doing this alone.
Asthmatic, huh? Well...I do not want to give unsound advice, but I will encourage you to go slow-n-steady. We have a good friend who is an asthmatic, but there are days when I'd never know, because he can out do the rest of us.
CRON - Calorie Restriction with Optimal Nutrition
I had never been a heavy eater, was a vegetarian and was always full of energy. Since I've been eating more junk, larger portions and more in general, I've not only gained weight, but feel sluggish and lifeless.
CRON may not work for me, but I'm going to give it a try.
You've dropped 10 pounds? That's great! I think you are off to a good start...I'll have to work hard to keep up with you LOL.
It sounds like you are doing good with the workouts too.
Well...I'm off to do a little knitting before hitting the bed. Let's plan on getting ourselves prepped for our 90-challenge

I'm game too. I'm 26 yr old. I've been trying really hard to lose weight since I went to the Doctor in November of 2006 and learned I weighed 172. I managed to lose 10 lbs, but it's taken me 5 mos to do that.
I need to lose 40 lbs to get to my target weight. i want to lose as much of that as possible by August 10th (I go to a wedding that day). I just got an elliptical at home and some dumbbells. I'm hoping to work out 4-5 days a week and start eating a lot better. The M&M's at work get the better of me though .
Regardless, I'd love to join you if you don't mind

Hi Vy-Dana!
Great! I'm so glad to have you. I have an elliptical too. I am going to start using it more often, as well as my treadmill, but to start off, I'm going to join the Y and take some classes. I do better in group settings.
I need to lose 40 too, so we can all keep each other focuses!
Try taking some healthy snacks with you to work, like raisins, or even have a spoonful of peanut butter ;)
I cannot work out today, as I did some hardcore gardening yesterday. I think I planted about 8 trees; my back, butt and everything else aches LOL.
Tomorrow, I'm heading straight to the gym for my first class!

When I joined the circuit here they have some classes, but none of them are at a time that works with my work schedule...so it's work out at home or not at all.
What kind of classes are you taking? Some people at my work started a pilates class. Apparently it is quite the work out.
I never thought to take peanut butter. Someone told me to stay away from that because it's so fatty. But I should start taking snacks.

I now that peanut butter is fatty, but a little goes a long way. It used to satisfy my junk-food cravings. However, taking something beats falling victim to the M&M attacks. What about yogurt? They are also a nice alternative to sweets.
As for the classes, I'm taking body-sculpting, cycling and cardio-mixer classes. I'm going to try to take two 1-hour classes per day, Mon-Sat. I work from home, so I have some flexibility, but I do have a toddler and I have to work my schedule around his needs (going to the park, learning new words, et al).
I am praying that I don't give up on the cycling class. I tried it once before and my bum was so sore, I promised to NEVER get on another bike LOL.

I actually bought a bicycle last year and am apparently VERY out of shape. I went about a quarter mile and was done. I tried the exercise bike at the circuit and it about killed me too (not literally ofcourse). I find that wierd because I can use my elliptical for 30 minutes. Mind you, that's a struggle, but I can do it.
I should try yogurt for a snack. I have been taking fruit lately, but I always forget I have it and dont' eat it. I should really get better at that.
I hope you enjoy your classes and good luck on the cycling ...what is a cardio-miker class?

I used to, and stress USED TO be able to get on the elliptical at the gym for 2 hours (it was a pre-cor). Hubby wouldn't allow me to buy an elliptical that costs as much as some vehicles LOL.
The cardio-mixer is a class that changes up a little. Today it might be kick-boxing, tomorrow it might be sculpting...something like that.
I like pilates, but I just don't feel the same impact. It's probably all in my head, but I feel that right now I need to really get moving, then when I've lost about 30 pounds, or even all of the weight, pilates will help me maintain my figure and weight.
Fruit is a great idea, as long as you're not diabetic. It's easy to fill up with an apple and satisfy your sweet-tooth.
Don't worry about what you cannot do, just focus on what you CAN do. We'll get through this together as a group. Let's just stay committed to the 90-day challenge and I bet you anything, we'll be willing to continue on our own, because we will see results.

Hello Sonja,
I'm new to Traineo, and would love to join this challenge!!! I'm at 155 and 40 pounds would bring me down to 115, the weight I would most love to be. Are there rules or can I keep doing what I'm doing??? (cardio [treadmill or aerobics] 6 days/week; weights every other day; fasting on Sunday's; eating 1400 cal's daily). How does it work, do stay in touch via this forum?
Thanks for the motivation and opportunity!!!!

Some more background about me: hmm, well i started wieght loss/ healthy life changes in January, 2007 and have lost 24 pounds so far and counting. I have been on the above program since March 1, 2007. I food journal; and plan all meals, calorie counting before I go to bed at night. I don't do gyms, but have a great treadmill at home and some basic weight machines (bench press; lat machine; roman chair; step; free wieghts) at home & too many exercise dvds/videos to count, from my many attempts to "get healthy" before. I am more committed to this life change than ever before. I look forward to suporting and looking to each of you over the next 12 weeks for motivation/inspiration. Today is my fasting; resting; yoga day, something new I've added as I work with the discipline of a Marine every other day, thought this was good balance...
Peace,
Glenda

Hi Glenda,
I'm so glad to have you (and everyone else).
If you are finding success with your current program, then keep it up. I believe that what's good for one, may not work for another. It's just like hair products. You wouldn't use a conditioner for dry hair, if in fact, you have oily hair...get it?
How tall are you? I used to weigh about 110 at 5'7", which was underweight. I only ask, because as long as you're healthy...you won't hear me complaining, but if you're putting your health at risk, then I'm going to jump all over you, with the discipline of a Marine ;)

Count me in too. I've been losing weight since graduating from college, and am now down 90+ pounds from my all-time high at graduation. I have roughly 30 pounds left to get myself to an ideal weight. I try to watch my diet and work out frequently; lots of spinning classes and elipitcal time in the week, and time out on the bike on the weekends. And, for what it's worth, the weight loss coincided with my vegetarianism (4 years!), which I still practice. Good luck to all!

Welcome Rich!
It's funny, I was a vegetarian, never felt hungry, never had a weight problem...maybe that's a hint that I should return to my no-meat diet, huh?
Well...I'm off to play with my son, so I'll check in tomorrow, see how we're all doing.

Hi everyone!
Hope you all met Monday morning with a Plan to stay on course. I will offer a tip this morning: I use the site Fitday.com to plan my meals, taking into account the day's events, BEFORE going to bed at night. In this way I am not "winging it" throughout the day and I know exactly what/when to eat; when to have snacks packed; how much carb/fat/protein I'm eating.
Yesterday I did my first "fast day" and have decided to do this on Sunday's as a way to cleanse and relax my body. I figured after working hard during the week, I needed a day off but didn't want to it to be a completely neutral day. I drank green tea; pear juice; grape juice (probably around 800 cals) and lots of water. I found it a very enjoyable day and even prep'd veggies; marinated tofu; make a big pot of brown & wild rice to get me started for the week. I also did a session of stretching & next week I'll attend a yoga class...
Oh ya, I weighted in at 152 this morning, down 26 pounds in total; 37.5 pounds from our mutual goal of 40...
Peace from a happy loser,
Glenda

Hi everyone! Happy Monday; Happy START DAY
Glenda, that's an awesome idea. I used to go to fitday, but stopped. I need to give it another shot.
So, I weighed myself today after my classes and almost cried, because I gained a few pounds. I know most of it is water (I had too much sodium). I weighed in at a wopping 173.4 boohoo.
Ok, no more whimpering. I'm actually off to a good start. I intended to take 2 classes, but ended up taking THREE!! Go Sonja! It's your Birthday!
I'm sore, very sore, but I'm going back for more punishment and brutality tomorrow LOL.
Now, as for eating...I'm drinking as much water as I can, eating healthy salads and fruits. I need to stay away from the coffee, but I admit that I'm having some today.
I'll check in later this evening to see how everyone else doing.
Go team!!!

I'm in! Worked out for 50 minutes today, and I feel beat up! Really need to check my asthma -- I suspect I triggered myself.
I joined up at sparkpeople.com to do a calorie record. I like the fact that it suggests strength training exercises, as I can't go to a gym -- too many possibilities of meeting someone who has put on a fragrance that will set me off. I have a Gazelle, stair machine and an exercise bike here.
