Aruba bound for St. Patty's Day. I quit smoking in July 06 and put on 19 pounds since then, so I'm looking to go 15 the other way. GI index, calorie/fat/carb conscious, and lots of exercise will make it happen!!

Hello everyone, it's been awile since I've posted but I've lacked questions and mostly all of everyone else's questions have filled any interests that I've had...
You know on a scale how it has silde spots for the bigger weight (increments of 50) and then you slide the little top weight to get the scale to balance off...? Well, today I only had to go the the 150 mark instead of the 200 mark. First time that's happened in about 4 years. It put a huge smile on my face and I think I had the best workout I've had yet so far.
It's been 43 days since I've joined Traineo and I've lost 22 pounds. I've been taking all of your advice and eating very well and pushing myself to new levels at the gym every day. It's kinda crazy that a little addition like a website to diet plans really makes a difference.... but I feel like I have a responsibility to report my workout and diet each day which keeps me in check.
So, thank you all for your motivation and reccommendations. I feel that without this site and all of you I wouldn't have made it this far! 22 down, 12 to go.
Happy dieting.
Rubin

I'm a PhD student and will be getting married this summer. My fiance and I started working out together and dieting a bit over a year ago, but slacked off recently so we're getting back into it for good now. This site is great!!

I'm a 23 year old FFB (former fat boy). I'm a grad student at the Univ. of Phoenix. I was married on June 1st, 2007 by a wonderful supportive woman.
I have always been the fat kid so now I've changed that. I started at 305. I lost 80 pounds and was at 225 after I was sick. From Jan 07 to Apr 07, I put on 25 pounds. I then started to lose weight again, but started doing it the right way. I am now 235 and leaner than I was at 225. I'm going to see how close I can get to a 6 pack, but eventually I'll start trying to put on some muscle. Then lean out again.
Six-Pack would be awesome, I've never had one of those. So we'll see. (my photo is me at 305lbs. when i get a good pic of me now at my current weight, i'll post it)

22 lbs. in 43 days?
That's 6 weeks. That's 3.66 lbs per week. 1/2 lbs per day? That's a lot.
are you losing a lot of muscle mass along with the fat??
That doesn't seem healthy, but then again I don't know you very well, so it's hard to really tell. have you ever exercised before, or is this lifestyle change a big shock to the system?
what does your diet and exercise regimen look like? Give us some details please.

I am 29 years old and have grown passionate about fitness and health! Overall, I have lost and kept off a little over 40 pounds, and I have about 20 or so more that I would like to take off. This last year has been tough and distracting in many ways, and I am back to work now! I am revisiting Traineo, because this site and the people here were instrumental in helping me lose my original 40 pounds so I am back! I regret that because of time constraints I won't be able to be AS active in the forums as I used to, but I will certainly try to stay in there and reconnect with old friend as well as make new ones.
My fitness goals remain the same as before as I haven't achieved them yet: *GOAL 1 = 140 lbs Target Date = 7/31/08 Date Met = TBD CURRENT FITNESS GOALS: Run a 5K, improve flexibility enough to do the splits, be able to do 50 pushups in a row, be able to do a pull-up, learn to do a hand stand and then hand stand pushups. :)

Nathan P,
You're right it does seem alot, but I was shooting for 3.5 lbs per week to hit my goal. But I'm doing it healthy, I'm just crazy when I put my mind to something.
I've been exercising consistently 6 days a week for the past 6 weeks. I stretch, then warm up with a 15-20 min intense session on a stationary bike, then I weight train for 20 - 30 mins on one particular muscle group each day... and I add in abs on Wed and Sat. I circuit train three exercises at 15 reps to keep my heart rate up, but I make sure the weight is enough to give me a good burn the last few reps. After weights, I hit the eliptical for 35-40 mins making sure that I work up a great sweat but keep my heart rate between 140 and 160. Finish with another rounnd of stetching.
I burn anwhere between 800 and 1500 cals a day just in the gym alone... and I am pretty active with work as well. I'm eating 4-5 times a day... 3 "main" meals where I take in 400-500 cals each. I also snack healthy throughout the day... lots of fruits, vegs... those 100 calorie snack packs... other stuff as well. I drink a ton of water... actually I cut out all other soda alltogether except soda water. I also drink juice with breakfast, have a protein shake before and after the gym. I have cut out all alcohol with the exception of maybe a glass or two of wine if I'm out to dinner... but no mare than twice a week. I intake anywhere from 1500 - 2100 cals a day, but am usually around 1700 more days than anything else.
What else...? All in all, I eat alot, healthy, but alot.. I don't starve myself by any means. I drink a ton of water, take a multivitamin with an extra chromium picolinate suppliment every day... eat lots of fibre... I bust my ass at the gym and try to get any extra exercise wherever I can find it throughout the day.
I haven't lost any muscle from what I can tell. I am stronger than when I started an definatley more defined. I played football and baseball throughout highschool and rugby in college, so I used to work out alot when I was younger. I got lost for the past 4 years and picked up smoking during college, but recently beat the habit this past July and have been super motivated to get back in shape ever since. When I quit I gained 19 pounds pretty quickly so i think that when I started eating healthy I was just able to shed it a little quicker than usual.
So, typing this must have burnt another 200 cals or so. Longwinded, yes I am... but I think that should cover all of your detail questions and I look for to your (and everybody elses') feedback!

Rubin, it sounds like your plan is really working out for you, and congratulations on quitting smoking, too. Smoking is bad news, but quitting can be so horribly tough. I'm always really impressed when people can do it.

Rubin, weight loss is a simple concept. Many people will not believe that it is possible to lose so much weight so fast. They may feel that you don't have control over it. Don't let this get you down. Instead, persevere, stay in control, and prove them wrong.
Keep up the great work!

I am 20 years old. I love sports of all kinds, indoor and outdoor. I would Love to loose some weight on my way to running a 1/2 marathon. I am in College and going into psychology/biology. I am just having fun living the single college kid life, but that does include not living the healthiest lifestyle such as staying up late and waking up early and rarely eating a real full meal. I will admit I have a very strong sweet tooth that likes to kick in just when I feel like I'm doing well!
