I was overweight growing up but was able to lose it during college. I stayed right around 200-210 during my 20's, but packed on the weight in my 30's after taking on a sedentary job and injuring my back. I'm now trying to get back down to 210 in the hopes of a happier, healthier me!

Hi Everyone,
Since the beginning of January 07, I have dropped about 20 lbs (if you go to my page it says less, but I had actually gotten a couple lbs heavier than my starting weight of 2 months before January) and feel great. People have been telling me how good I look, I have more energy, and I have dropped 2 pants sizes.
So what's the roadblock? Well, for the past week/week and a half I've been up and down with my diet. I know I should be better with it, but I've hit that comfortable zone, where I have made significant gains but have not reached my ultimate goal yet. I'm still working out regularly, but I know I have to dial my diet back in consistantly or I won't make anymore gains. I've also gained a pound back. I don't think this signals a swing in the complete opposite direction, but I am angry at myself for slipping. Any suggestions for pushing through the wall?
PS - Butt kicking, lay on the guilt type of replies are actually welcome!

You may be hitting your first plateau. Are you still running a calorie deficit every day? If not, like you said, you may have to refine your diet. If you are, try changing around your exercise routine a bit.
The older you get, the tougher it is to break through plateaus. This is not based on any scientific evidence -- just my own personal experience!
A pound plus or minus in either direction doesn't really mean anyhting, either.

I hope by having this page that it will hold me accountable and keep my focus on my health. I have Type II Diabetes but I am able to control it without medication by exercise and a low carb lifestyle. My weight was 303lbs. I also was diagnosed with Hypertension with a blood pressure of 190/94 with a heart rate of 92. I now have it down to 131/73 with a heart rate of 68. All by low carb, exercise and a lot of encouragement from family and friends.

Juan, I understand what you are saying but I think you might be putting to much emphasis on your weight loss. Look at the big picture. Look where you have come from. Your health is so much better and you continue to take care of yourself by working out. The weight will come off. I promise. It just takes time. And so what if it takes six months or five years. You are in this for the long haul. I once read something that really changed the way I look at myself and what I am doing. It said "Working out and eating right is for my physical and mental health. The weight loss is just an added benefit". I truly believe this.

Married, no children, love travelling and spending time with our friends. Passionate about horses - finally got two of my own but not until I'd passed 40 ! Tried diets in the past - word is now banned in our house I found you generally end up weighing more than when you started if it isn't a way of living your life permanently. So I've stopped yo-yo dieting and decided increasing my exercise is the long term solution. Thus I've recently added a 2nd dance class - line dancing - each week as a fun way to exercise and lose weight. In just 4 weeks this appears to be a good approach as I have lost some weight. So wahtever my weight is on the scales at least I'll be fitter :0))

1.5 years ago I was 323lbs and miserable...I have lost over 130lbs by eating better, drinking less booze, and exercising...I still have weight to lose but I am a much happier person and I'm glad I found traineo to help me monitor my progress

Juan...Like you I am a cycling enthusiast and hit a significant plateau about a month and a half ago...Then I started doing high intensity interval workouts on my bike twice a week...I have no medical proof that it was the cause but adding intervals seemed to wake up my metabolism and I have seen consistent results...it might be worth a try...an added bonus is that interval workouts are much shorter so they're easy to squeeze in on busy days
Good luck

Sean,
It's funny you mentioned doing interval workouts. After doing mostly base miles for the past few weeks, I'm just starting to get back into them.
I actually just have to get back to my diet on a consistant basis and I should start losing again. Just gotta get my will-power back up,
