About me: --------------------------- I'm an architecture student at a great school.
After trial and error, managed to shed the pounds for real.
What I'm doing: --------------------------- Portion control still a problem. HIIT 2x/week Starting weights 1x/week
I take stairs over escalator and elevator ALL THE TIME (I climb 6 sets of stairs minimum for the day at the metro 2-3floors?).
Extra note: --------------------------- I finally understand what being fit means! And I actually love running now thanks to HIIT.
Goal: lose the belly fat! My problem area. First goal: 120lbs - MET 2nd goal: 116lbs - MET 3rd goal: 112lbs ish with more muscle definition
Realizing I can't change the way my body stores fat and have a noticeable belly during the day (pic was morning with light breakfast after workout) I will work on making a stronger core to counter the pooch a bit
Dropped 1 pant size since last year (stable weight) Dropped 2 pant sizes since mid-Summer after Greece (pastries=weight gain)

I'm 5'3" and 122 lbs (currently) and I'm not growing any taller. I'm actually the shortest member in my family.
So I was wondering, does your height affect your metabolism that much? I mean in my head, logically, the taller you are, the more calories you need to maintain your body.
There's nothing I can do about this now but.. just curious. I guess I should've had more nap times when I was a kid..

Hi I am Kat, I am seventeen and I started this school year at boarding school. Although it's not college, I have the same problems with living in dorms, going to the school's dining hall, and staying up late finishing work and studying. Luckily I haven't gained the "freshman 15" (like a good majority of my friends have), but I have gained some weight and would like to learn how to eat right in an environment with a wide variety of [mediocre] foods. Have you ever been to a buffet and decided to try a little of each, and before you knew it your plate is piled high? Imagine that for every meal every day! It's a slow learning process but I would love it if you would like to be my motivator. Just message me! : D Thanks

hmm....interesting question! I can see how you'd need more calories the taller you get. That's kind of annoying that you read places how many calories you should be getting but they never really go based on height. I'm going to think about that one...

Must get back down to me fightin' weight, darned stoopid holidays and their tasty treats...
Fer reel: A couple years ago I dropped from 200 to 120, and since I've been "maintaining" ... which has turned into a slight, slow gain. School leaves me with an excuse to not work out, and that has lead to my weight creeping up. After 20 pounds I fought hard to get off the first time I'm saying no more and working my fat bum back down into the 120s where it belongs.
I prefer lifting heavy but I've learned to not hate "cardio" and have even taken up running... sorta.
Of course, my fave pastimes are usually sedentary, my art, gaming, etc... But I can get over that.

Yes, height, weight, and age are figured into your basal burn rate, then you multiply by your activity modifier (amount/intensity per week).

#1, totally not important, nothing you can do about it, and it doesn't matter anyway. I didn't say how much it affected your metabolism, now did I?
#2, so you get to be cute and short and make other people get things that are on the top shelf for you. So you can ask the tall cute guy (or whatever) at the supermarket to get that box of kashi because you can't reach it.
#3, For women, the B.E.E. =
655.1 + (9.563 x kg) + (1.850 x cm) - (4.676 x age)
That is the harris benedict formula.
which means that for every cm you're "short" you lose a whopping 1.85 calories you burn at rest. whoop de do. you'll notice that both weight and age have far more an affect, more weight means more burn, older age means less burn... and the truly big number is still that one that doesn't get modified in the beginning.
Your height wouldn't mean you could magically be thinner... you'd still be the general shape and size relative to your height and bone structure you are now. You'd have naturally balanced out at that point based on your natural eating habits and activity level. Height is just a small blip... because there's extra bone, muscle, skin, fat, blood, fluid, etc in a taller body than a shorter one.
My point is you'd be in the same boat if you were taller, you'd just be taller.

LOL I like response #2
I have to admit though.. I don't know what kashi is..
I know I wouldn't be magically thinner but it sure might've helped a bit cuz I'm a bit chubbier than my sisters who are virtually fatless

Hi! I am trying to lose my freshman 25. I am trying to lose 30 pounds to get back to my original weight. At the same time, I want to be lean and toned. I enjoy activities like running on the treadmill, doing the elliptical and dancing.

I am 5 foot half. Being short isn't that bad. My rugby team mates call me "Q", which is the first letter of my surname. They say it sounds like "cute" too! Also, when you are short, you can get through samll holes and gaps, esp during sports.
Also, when my coach talks about sth, my teamates let me stand in front of them, so that I get to see what is happening. Pretty nice!
And you can always wear heels.

lol ew I don't do heels
I'm not short enough to be qualified tiny and cute, but not tall enough to be qualified as a model so I'm an in-betweener
and I don't do sports so really, it's sort of to my advantage that I'm average, so I can find clothes easily but that also plays a disadvantage cuz it's harder to find my size!
