If you would like to follow my weight loss via blogging, the link is http://nottie2hottie.blogstream.com Otherwise, here are my stats. Was 226 and got to 185 and just lingered. Then I kicked it up like crazy and I got down to 145. THEN, after slightly falling off the wagon and not working on myself, I'm ready to again. I hope to get into the 120s.

So, I had to find a new motivation. I had lost just ENOUGH weight to where I now feel comfortable in my clothes and feel like if I eat a big meal and gain or lose a couple pounds here or there....it doesn't really matter. BUT, I wasn't continuing to lose weight. I was just hanging out. Not plateauing at all. I wasn't even trying.
When you are big for so long, and you get to a weight that you aren't skinny, and you aren't fat it's easy to just want to stop and relax for awhile. Well....that's what i've been doing for the last month and a half. BUT, I need to stop that now. I'm hitting the gym in the morning, and want to lose the last 20+ pounds that I was headed for before stopping. I've never been under 140 for more than a week in the last 8 years, and I'd like to bust through that and EVEN get into the 120s!!!
I just had to find a new spark. A new motivation. A new drive of willpower.
I don't know what it was...but it happened. And now I will be actually striving to hit my goal and not just hoovering around where I'm "comfortable". Wish me luck, and good luck to all of you!!!

It's been too long - gaining and losing, and gaining and losing again. I've changed my lifestyle for about 3 years now, exercising and eating healthy stuff, but I can't manage to lose the 15 kgs I've build up in 15 years of junking. My body's holding on to it.... Time for action - already 5 kgs lost, at least 8 to go. UPDATE may 2007: YES YES YES I did it !! I am so happy and so proud. And now the biggest challenge - to keep it this way.

Lots and lots of good luck and motivation !! Good to hear you've found it !!
I recognise a lot in what you're saying. People also seem to encourage me to stop after what seems only the "beginning" of a major change. It takes some time to realise that if you're up for it, just go on and keep doing what you're doing.

good luck on your goal. sounds like you're back on track. the fact that you didn't add any weight after taking a "break" is awesome. it means your body(metabolism) is starting to do some of the work for you.however, time to go back strong, your body may have signalled to you that it needed a break to adjust to this "new, improved" you. Now that you have stabilized and your body is functioning at your new base weight, it IS time that you continue on. you'll feel and look that much better. great job

I'm a 23 year old FFB (former fat boy). I'm a grad student at the Univ. of Phoenix. I was married on June 1st, 2007 by a wonderful supportive woman.
I have always been the fat kid so now I've changed that. I started at 305. I lost 80 pounds and was at 225 after I was sick. From Jan 07 to Apr 07, I put on 25 pounds. I then started to lose weight again, but started doing it the right way. I am now 235 and leaner than I was at 225. I'm going to see how close I can get to a 6 pack, but eventually I'll start trying to put on some muscle. Then lean out again.
Six-Pack would be awesome, I've never had one of those. So we'll see. (my photo is me at 305lbs. when i get a good pic of me now at my current weight, i'll post it)

I got the same thing Maaike got, when you hit an "OK" place people are like, "You look great, you don't need to lose any more weight"
To that I say, "You are just used to looking at fat people, I'm still 10 lbs over ideal." That usually shuts them up.
Achieve YOUR goal, not everyone elses'.
Also, I think a lot of people get jealous subconcisouly and they don't want you to look TOO good, cause it makes them look that much worse. (I'm cynical today, I guess)

I am 34 years old, married and a father of a 2.5 year old. They are the motivators for me to reach my goal. I started the new journey on 8/21/06 @307 lbs and as of June '08, I have lost around 108 lbs. I have been able to keep 100 lb weight loss since Sept. '07. What keeps me on track is the Traineo community, vision of a healthy and fit future and the mini-goals below. *GOAL 1 = 244 lbs, Date = 2/15/07 Date Met = 2/7/07 *GOAL 2 = 229 lbs, Date = 3/22/07 Date Met = 3/30/07 ________________________ *GOAL 3 = 199 lbs, Date = 6/30/08 Date Met = 6/5/08 *GOAL 4 = 185 lbs, Date = 09/30/08 Date Met = TBD (185 is my "ultimate" goal. Then build muscle.)

Good luck Ashley!
I have also gotten comfortable in the past and for some reason fell for what everyone was telling me, "you look great". I believed it and stopped trying to lose weight. Not this time. I am aiming to be below 200 and be in the 180s by 2008. I don't think I have been under 200 since high school or Jr. High.

That's great, Ashley! Good luck.. you can do it!
I know exactly what you mean about feeling comfortable and getting lax, I've done it many times before. I would start to feel good, look good and people would compliment me. I would start to feel like I was " done". It's disaster! Kick it in the butt! Sounds like you are ready to do just that!
Nathan, I do not think you are cynical, I think you are speaking the truth. I have many people in my life who like that I am overweight. It makes them feel better about themselves.

Hi! I am trying to lose my freshman 25. I am trying to lose 30 pounds to get back to my original weight. At the same time, I want to be lean and toned. I enjoy activities like running on the treadmill, doing the elliptical and dancing.

Must get back down to me fightin' weight, darned stoopid holidays and their tasty treats...
Fer reel: A couple years ago I dropped from 200 to 120, and since I've been "maintaining" ... which has turned into a slight, slow gain. School leaves me with an excuse to not work out, and that has lead to my weight creeping up. After 20 pounds I fought hard to get off the first time I'm saying no more and working my fat bum back down into the 120s where it belongs.
I prefer lifting heavy but I've learned to not hate "cardio" and have even taken up running... sorta.
Of course, my fave pastimes are usually sedentary, my art, gaming, etc... But I can get over that.
|

I know the feeling. I call it settling for "good enough." It's better than it was before, but it's not where you really want to be if you were honest with yourself and your dreams. The break probably helped. I had one at about the 140 mark after coming down from 200... it took about a month to find the new groove, because I was "ok" but not great. Then, I hit it hard again and got to the 120.
Once you're there... take it from me... you'll kick yourself HARD if you don't keep it. Don't slide back up more than 10 pounds EVER. 10 pounds is a month to pull back off, maybe two. More than 10 pounds and you look and feel like crap, because it means a significant change. It usually means a clothing size (or at least tightness) Even when you're "done" and maintaining, use that 10 pound mark. Keep track. You'll be glad you did.

Aoife - you are so right about the 10lb mark! I lost a bunch of weight and kept it off for years and over the course of the last 2 years I have gained back 18 lbs, so I have to lose it now . It is so sad to think of all the work it took to lose weight previously. I really feel bad about myself altogether. Also, when you do go off the track and start eating all sorts of not good stuff, it makes it so much harder to eat healthy again!!!
So everyone else, if this happened to you, I sympathize, and if not, don't let it happen, it really is devastating!!

Amy, I agree it is hard to think about all that time you put in and then fall off the wagon. That way this time I keep reminding myself how much time I am putting in and how I do not want to repeat my bad habits again!

Transplant to Seattle from St. Louis. Use to cycle pretty competitive a few years back but gave it all up for a sexy job working out of a cube for a bank.
Aside from the obvious health benefits, realizing if I don't make a change now I'll be forced to buy a new wardrobe.

I've heard various folks advise to set a "red flag" weight which is your early warning signal that you have fallen off the wagon. As a bit more in your face, my friend got to her "ideal" weight and bought jeans that fit the new size..
...when they started to get tight she knew she was heading in the wrong direction.

About me: --------------------------- I'm an architecture student at a great school.
After trial and error, managed to shed the pounds for real.
What I'm doing: --------------------------- Portion control still a problem. HIIT 2x/week Starting weights 1x/week
I take stairs over escalator and elevator ALL THE TIME (I climb 6 sets of stairs minimum for the day at the metro 2-3floors?).
Extra note: --------------------------- I finally understand what being fit means! And I actually love running now thanks to HIIT.
Goal: lose the belly fat! My problem area. First goal: 120lbs - MET 2nd goal: 116lbs - MET 3rd goal: 112lbs ish with more muscle definition
Realizing I can't change the way my body stores fat and have a noticeable belly during the day (pic was morning with light breakfast after workout) I will work on making a stronger core to counter the pooch a bit
Dropped 1 pant size since last year (stable weight) Dropped 2 pant sizes since mid-Summer after Greece (pastries=weight gain)

I'm just trying to lose 5 pounds that I've been lugging around for years, it's even more fustrating for me cuz I have even less motivation!
I've never been fat in my life so it's like, well I've always been okay and people tell me I'm fine and have a perfect body (little they know, I have a tiny bit of blubber covering my would be muscles), and to lose that 5 pounds would mean the world to me, also because I've never completed a personal goal, so it would feel great too!
I'm just eating well and working out 3 times/week to Turbo Jam.. hoping it'll help, I do either 40 minutes or 20 minute workouts, depends on time and mood, and walk to and from school from the metro. Still, results are extremely slow with me.. for some odd reason..

I was overweight growing up but was able to lose it during college. I stayed right around 200-210 during my 20's, but packed on the weight in my 30's after taking on a sedentary job and injuring my back. I'm now trying to get back down to 210 in the hopes of a happier, healthier me!

Good for you Ashley,
I think many of us have been in the same place.
Quoting: bigmex44 I have also gotten comfortable in the past and for some reason fell for what everyone was telling me, "you look great". I believed it and stopped trying to lose weight. Fred - I am right there with you. I haven't seen the south side of 200lbs since my early twenties, before I started seriously weight training (and trying to increase my 'showoff' muscles). I am now an avid cyclist and am actually looking to eventually get to 180-185lbs by 2008. With my frame and build, I would be downright skinny at that size. To give you an idea, as an adult my chest has never been any smaller than a size 48, even when I was 200lbs with a 34 inch waist.
