My highest weight ever to 249Lbs. in just five months I want to thank everyone here for inspiring me and motivating me as well! By the way here is a link to the video of what an urban ninja is.

That is such a great goal! I love all things oriental, to the point of wearing out my martial arts dvds and videos :P I wish you the best in your fitness efforts and maybe one day we can flip, run and jump together. To conclude:Yay Ninjas!Urban Ninjas!

Wow. What they aren't showing you are all the broken bones and groin hits that have been edited out.

James, that would be awesome!

This coming from a girl (me) who hasn't successfully performed anything tumbling related (even something as simple as a forward roll), well...in about 20+ years! Nothing wrong with having a goal though right?

I am extremely determined to do this so I will definitely begin training as soon as possible. I am already very flexible I should think that comes in handy.

Ryouko hosts classes in Ontario. You can probably find Parkour classes scattered around the U.S. too, but I don't know of a reliable way to find them.

Urban Free Flow has training articles and a How Stuff Works article is a good intro to it.

Strangely enough, my ultimate goal is pretty much the same as yours.

What a great and totally interesting goal! I have actually never seen it done in the U.S., but would love to.

You should netflix the film "District B13" (2006) - french name was "Banlieue 13" its like an urban action drama with the orginal Parkour guys...and its really well filmed and kinda a hidden gem most people dont know about.

I brought it up in a different thread, but CrossFit training looks like a good way to start preparing for Parkour.

@Veronica, local CrossFit shops also host four-week outdoor bootcamps. I guess my main deterrent is that I'd like to save something I can focus on all year round (not to mention getting up at 5:30am to make a 6am bootcamp -- ouch).

Thanks for the film tip!

James is nutso and needs to be locked in a cage only to be released when the evil terror-monkeys threaten to ravage the local population.

Personally, I'm leaning towards urban pirate, robot monster, or zombie.

Itadaki: The bootcamp I'm doing has an initial session of 12 weeks and then u can keep going if u choose in 4 week sessions.

We have 3 different locations its offered at in the city (I live in chicago so its very large). There are 3 different session you can choose from, 5:30 or 6:30 am, 5 days a week or 6:30pm 3 nights a week....im doing the evening one so its nice as i dont have to get up super early ha! ....i live too far anyhow from any of the sites to make it to the morning classes, id have to get up at like 4am lol...screw that!

hey,

a couple of things. you can check out http://www.americanparkour.com/ which is parkour and cross fit combined. I bought their DVD on Parkour (did you know there's a difference between parkour and free running? check it out to find out what it is). James Denham contact me, my business is called Urban Warrior Incorporated. It's very much the idea you want to be. I'm a personal trainer/martial artist (jeet Kune Do instructor Bruce Lee's martial art, filipino marital arts instructor, shamrock submission fighting instructor, and scientific wrestling instructor). I'm also very into Parkour side of things. Contact me and I'll work with you for free for good testimonials! Also, check out meetup.com. There are parkour groups in their, maybe in your city. I was running one, but I shut it down because of lack of interest.

James you are definately an inspiration. You've done an amazing job!

Additionally, have you seen the show Ninja Warrior on G4TV? Those guys are amazingly strong. If you have not seen the show it is really incredible. Check it out.

My wife and I watch ninja Warrior all the time. Those guys are definitely amazingly fit athletes, but most of them are pretty small guys. Just something to keep in mind - there's a reason you don't see many gymnasts over 5'-8".

I think Yamada from NW is 5'-3" and about 125 lbs.

Which isn't to say don't train and try, just don't expect miracles.

Man, Parkour kicks butt. I think I saw a show on it on Discovery HD a while back.
