I thought i'd let everyone know that I got Wii Fit yesterday and that it was awesome. Unforutnatly though I couldnt do some routines because my lounge area is too small... as in I cannot lay down in front of the TV the lounge is that small.

I knew the game was gonna be great, but it does its job really well. I played the game for ages yeterday. When you do one activity say, lunges, it takes two or three minutes. That goes into your piggy bank and accumulates, so you can earn more activities to do. After my first day, I did 3 hours worth of exercises!!! When I got to three hours no more would accumulate, as it was enough for the day they reccommended. But they said that you can keep doing the exercises.

I unlocked all of the balance games, which are quite fun. You'd think they're actually just "games" but they're not. Theres an aerobic games section too, which is the same thing but I havent unlocked all of those yet. Try hoola hooping (moving your hips in that fashion) for around 3 minutes trying to get as many spins as you can. Then theres a boxing one which goes for around 6 minutes. I was pooped. You need to follow the instructor that goes "follow my lead.... right, left, block... left right block. right left right block" etc (as in right punch and then block by standing back on the balance board). I was sweating and I exercise! So it does give you a workout. It's amazng how the board does its job. At first my center of gravity was to the right, but after a few hours of gaming I took it again and I was close to the centre!

The yoga poses were really difficult. It's the first time I had done yoga before, and my god it was funny you should have seen me trying to keep my balance. But in the end I got them right.

Here in Australia it's 140 dollars (people in america are complaining about the price over there, well here we pay over half the price because the market doesnt adjust to the dollar anymore. We should be paying the same price you guys would). It's well worth the money though. It weighs you, and I needed a good pair of scales, and it measures your BMI. You get around 24 yoga activities (I think), and then 24 muscle activities (I think), and then theres 15 aerobic activities and 15 balance games.

Snowboarding is hard, but the other skiing ones are awesome, it's really like skiing apparently! (I have never seen snow so I wouldn't know)

But yeah it's really awesome.

Thats really awesome! Some time ago some guy kept a log on his website and he didn't have a diet really to go with it, but you can see he did get pretty good results anyway!

It was very inspiring for me to see his progress every week, and I'm glad you're enjoying your Wii Fit! I'm waiting for it to be released out here in the US, and I hope to put it in my daily routine, and log it all here on Traineo!

I hope you keep it up, thanks for the small review, it makes me more excited to get myself a Wii Fit as well

I want a Wii too! My best friend has one and I'm at his apartment almost every night playing the tennis game.

Could your time have been better spent say, hitting the weights or running on the treadmill?

Your time is best spent doing exercise that you enjoy. If you try to force yourself to do stuff that you hate, you will quit sooner. Wii fit probably cannot stand alone as your exercise, but if it keeps you motivated, then I say it is time well spent.

Some may say that enjoyment only comes once you achieve proficiency. Who really enjoyed running or lifting the first time they did it? If you never keep at it to the point where you see yourself grow, you'll never love it.

Thats why so many people drag themselves to the gym every day filled with loathing, they never put enough into it to achieve proficiency, and never learned to enjoy it.

oh good grief. i'd love to see everyone row and do triathlons and wall-climb, too, but we don't need a discussion of kettlebells and intensity every time a Wii is brought up, especially when the same poster started the new topic.

LOL, well said Bean...

Great for you Stitch!! Sounds like a fun game, and I'm glad you're enjoying it... Keep us updated on your progress; I just might have to get a Wii sometime soon anyway, and this would be an interesting game to check out

That's a whole other discussion; how many of these threads do we need? I swear this is like the 5th thread about this thing and it's already turning into a carbon copy of the other thread Stitch started. Obviously there are people who are in favor of this and there are people (Bour, Jericho and myself for example) who don't think it's worth the opportunity costs.

I think, rather than descending into an extended diatribe about why we think this isn't the best thing you could do, especially in a thread dedicated to the subjective "awesomeness" of it, us dissenters should stop hijacking these threads and either start our own anti-WiiFit thread or spend our time in these threads posting completely unrelated funny pictures that we find entertaining so our hijackings are at least less inflammatory.

I'm going to go with funny pictures. I'll start:

FWIW, if I spent 3 hours lifting I would be worthless for at least a week, and none too pleased with the idea of returning!

Man what is wrong with some people. I've posted a few threads from Wii fit to inform everyone about it and I never stated this should be their main exercise routine, that would be stupid.

The reason why I posted this thread is because I actually got the damn game and am more pleased with it than I thought I would be.

I'm seriously sick of hearing about people that just don't like it, ok? I posted it to share my experiences and I say it's fantastic and so do millions of people in Japan, Britain, and many of Australians now think to as Wii Fit has sold out everywhere it has been released.

If you don't like it then simply don't post. I was happy to read the first few posts then it got into freakin arugments about it, cmon geeze.

Time well spent? Well like someone alreaedy noted, I like doing those things but it would be difficult for me to do that for 3 hours. I got a heck of a workout (amazingly) with the Wii Fit, probebely cause of the yoga and muscle exercises, I woke up sore the next morning. I've done weights for a while and running and used to get sore, now it's not as much. So I know now that obviously Wii Fit must be good in some way if I do wake up sore. And no it's not from injuries from the game as one might expect, its the soreness you get after any exercise.

Welcome to the Internet!

You probably don't want to hear it from me, but here's a tip: Honestly, in just about every online community, your post is just a delicious appetizer of angst that promises to lead to a beautifully prepared entree of anger with a generous side of frustration and that, in the end, is all us bullies want. Shrug off the dissenters because if they (we?) get to you, they've won and won't let up . I mean, is it really that important for people to agree (or not disagree) with you? I, for one, can live with the idea that someone on the Internet might think I'm wrong.

Quoting: sianlee5
I've done weights for a while and running and used to get sore, now it's not as much.

If you aren't getting sore, you might need to mix up your routine and/or up your intensity. You should always feel soreness while your muscles are rebuilding themselves, after all, the point of exercise is to create microscopic tears (TEARS!) in the muscles that are rebuilt stronger. I've been lifting hardcore and heavy for a while now and I used to train very actively when I was younger... I always wake up sore in whatever muscles I worked the day before. Use the fact that you aren't seeing the results you want to in your photos as motivation to push harder, pick up some heavier weights and run faster than you have been and I'm sure you'll get more out of your gym visits.

If you've never done yoga before then you certainly will feel soreness especially since doing things like yoga or other things that your body isn't used to doing will work muscles you don't use routinely. As your body gets more acclimated to the exercises then you may run into the same "problem" of the absence of soreness so, as more of a mental exercise than anything else, see if you can't push past some of those mental blocks a little bit in your next few workouts, whether it's on the Wii or in the gym.

Besides that, 3 hours of anything will probably make you at least a little sore... if I sit on my couch for too long my ass falls asleep! I am genuinely curious though: if you put in the same time and effort to both the gym and Wii Fit and then you'll have a better apples to apples comparison and I'd like to know how different you feel after the Wii Fit days compared to your gym days because, let's be honest, are you really going to put in 3 hours a day to exercise? I average one hour per trip (not counting basketball) 7 days a week and even then it's sometimes hard to maintain a social life and other obligations. I can't imagine how my laundry would get done or how my meals would get cooked if I gave up another two per day.

As far as getting back on subject (a little?), I am definitely interested in seeing the kind of numbers that Wii Fit puts out though, it's not available in the US until the 21st, but so far at my local GameStop, which does a significant portion of the volume for the whole area here, and a few other stores I've asked at haven't seen many preorders for it (yes, I asked... I'm supposed to keep up on trends... it's my industry!) but coming out in the shadow of GTA4 probably hasn't helped that much.

For the record, yes, I'm not a big believer that this product will make the revolutionary fitness splash that some zealots seem to think it will; obviously the enthusiasm shared by the people who do believe has me curious. For many reasons, I'm in Bour and Jericho's camp about it, but I would LOVE to be proved wrong if this turns into a fitness revolution. I dont' think any of us are hoping failure on the product or the people who use it, and we may be in the very vocal minority here... only time will tell.

In case I didn't post it before, here is an interesting article that shows that the Wii is certainly turning heads and has some potential in the fitness world. Bottom line, though, is that people like me just aren't Nintendo's target audience (in any regard really... My Wii had been collecting dust since launch day until Mario Kart came out... and even then it only got 30 minutes of use...)

Stitch, if you're getting a good sweat from the thing, wipe it down and put it back up on that pedestal you've kept it on for the past few weeks and just focus on yourself and not us. I'm glad something is working for you. If you manage to stick with it, or any other routine, I'd be interested to follow your progress.

And now to the pictures that make my dissent OK:

Awesome, post related image from work:

Clifford, I did note in my other post that it is easier to do things that you love for longer. Wouldn't you agree that it would be extremly difficult to lift weights for 3 hours non-stop? Yes. It's not recommended you do it for that long. I played the Wii Fit game for three hours because I was looking forward to the game for over a year or so now. I'm going to play it at least 30-60 minutes a day.

Once again, I did not say it's a subsititue for fitness, or my routine. Think of it this way, i'd work out 2 hours a day, then probebly rest. With this it would be work out 2 hours a day and play wii fit - fun and exercise at the same time.

And I know I can be wrong and willing to admit it, but i'm not trying to prove a point such as "is the wii better than the 360" I was just pointing out since this is a fitness and health site that the Wii fit could be looked into those who like gaming and just wanna do something like that for fun. The reason why I quoted your post was because everytime i've said something in these threads (not necessarly the Wii threads) you've always said something against my word. It just seems like you target me for no reason.

On the other hand people who post seem to get the idea that i'm just trying to share my enthausiasm

Do I really? I don't really pay attention, the only thread of yours that I can think of, other than the Wii-related threads, was your thread about "Am I doing HIIT?" when you weren't doing HIIT, then got all ornery when other people also pointed out that your routine wasn't HIIT. In my defense, I'm pretty sure I said something along the lines of "who cares what it's called if it's working for you?"

I'm not saying you're arguing that the Wii is a superior console, and probably the reason I'm so interested in these threads is because I actually work in the industry so it's close to home. If you prefer, when I have something to say in response to you, I'll just post cute and funny pictures instead of actually replying to your posts.

Also, I target everyone. I'm an equal opportunity hater.

I got Wii fit when it came out and even though everyone is saying they dont see how it can actually help & the time would be better spent on something else, I actually think its great.

I agree no-one will use it to replace their normal exercise routine (well, i hope so anyway, I cant speak for everyone lol!) but it is a great way to increase the exercise you do and get you moving. I currently use it alongside my normal routine - usually i would get home from the gym and spend the rest of the evening having time to myself - reading, watching TV, playing on the computer, that sort of thing. But because I find the Wii so much fun I'm now doing about an hour of Wii fit in my normal my time - and it still feels like me time. Not everyone wants to spend all their free time in the gym so I welcome something like this which encourages people to use their time that they have to themselves to keep active.

And to the people saying it doesn't work - I usually lose about an average of 1 pound week. After having used this for a week and a half (I live in the UK - we got it here a while ago!) I have lost 5. And I'm not in the overweight range so you can't even say its just because of the extra weight Im carrying making me work harder. It actually encourages you to exercise - squats, lunges, press ups, boxing, yoga, etc. Oh and my waist has shrunk but about three quarters of an inch (im pretty sure its the hula hooping - Stitch I'm sure you know what I mean lol!) Its not aimed at the die hard fitness finatics who love nothing more than to lift double their body weight to wind down in the evening (not exactly a news flash!) but rather to get people like me who might not feel like running 8 miles after a day at the gym to be active and have fun while doing it. It is something that I personally feel you cannot judge until you have tried it yourself - fair enough it might not work for you, but that doesn't give you authority to bash everyone who it DOES work for. I thought the whole point of this forum was for people who wanted to lose weight to come together and support each other but I guess not everyone is on the same wavelength lol!

No bashing so far in this thread; in fact, the closest thing to ad hominem attacks have come from the Wii Fit crowd defending it. In fact, like I've said in this and the only other thread I've taken part in about this product, I would absolutely love for people to prove me wrong about this because that ultimately means more people getting into better shape and, here's the kicker, maintaining that shape.

It's funny how the simple act of playing devil's advocate can get the fanatics and zealots so up in arms. So far, no one has said "Stitch ur stoopid for liking Wii Fit" or "Lisa iz a dookey butt", we're simply making the very valid argument that there are other alternatives that we personally feel are BETTER in terms of fitness.

The fact that people might take it personally is the true definition of an "added perk".

But now, on to the real reason I wanted to post in this thread again:

i wasnt speaking directly to you - i was talking in general terms that something may not work for some poeple, but just because it doesnt work for you doesnt mean it doesnt work for anyone. Since you havent tried it, I didnt mean it to be directed at you yourself. However whenever people take offence to things I say in general it always makes me wonder why they are so sensitive lol! It reminds me of something someone once told me - someone walks into a room and screams 'bitch!', do you take offence? If you do then you more than likely are one lol!
