I've been active my entire life. From growing up playing soccer, rowing in college, and seriously lifting since high school, I am not mystified over the exceedingly simple relationship between strenuous exercise and eating a sensible diet, and being fit.
Current stats:
Immersing myself into full-blown German Volume Training.

I understand this, but the argument comes down to opportunity costs. Time spent playing the Wii is time that could be spent doing more physically demanding and efficacious workouts. That's it.

I love to eat. Carbs is my weakness link that I always lose control in front of it.
I started running for fitness in 2007. Ever since I finished the 1st marathon (San Diego RnR 2007), I am addicted to running.
I started traineoing in Nov 2007. I have reached my goal weight in Jun 08 already. But, now, I don't care much about my weight. I care about it only if it affects my running performance.

That is true! But, the Wii can folks never been to fitness to start. There are people may not be willing or able to do more physically demanding workout yet. It also ofters a better game in a family party that many can enjoy.
I do not think Stitch K has trying to tell anyone to use Wii to replace any other exercise at all. I totally agree and support Stitch K's idea. I am also recommending my friends and family to get a wii also. (I wish I have owned Ninendo stocks! LOL)

I feel the need to always qualify my posts with the following statement:
Wii Fit isn't necessarily a BAD idea, and I'm all for it if it gets people motivated to want to be in shape.
I'm not necessarily saying that anyone HERE is going to replace their workout regimen with it; and I'm sure someone, somewhere will pick this up and we'll hear some miracle story about how they lost 295290 lbs using it and n othing else, but I'm completely with Jericho on this, it's an opportunity cost both ways and, in addition to what he pointed out, which I agree with, ultimately, the people who would benefit the most in the video game demographic won't be sold on spending time on this when they could be playing Halo 3, GTA 4 or CoD4 or whatever.
I'm firmly of the opinion that folks should just dive in; if the water is cold, jumping in just makes me acclimate faster and I'm having fun in the pool before the "slow and steady" guy is even as deep as his knees. This applies to exercise too; when I first started going back to the gym it kicked my ass every day, but I didn't let up and now the tables are turning. It's always going to be hard at first, and if someone doesn't have the personal fortitude to push through that, well... they won't be joining us in the pool any time soon.
I realize that there are people who are not willing to do more strenous exercise to get in shape. The sad truth is that those people will most likely NEVER be in shape, unless something happens to change their attitude (which, unfortunately, is usually a serious health issue that there's no turning back from: diabetes, cardiac arrest, aneurysms, etc.). It takes work, you have to push yourself; you have to sweat and bleed. If a person isn't willing to do that, they won't do it in a video game and they won't do it in the gym until they are.
I know people who have a Wii now that won't play Wii Sports Boxing and play tennis sitting down on a couch flicking their wrists. Why? Because they'll tell you it's too tiring. These are the same people who love to cite that Wii sports experiment where the guy lost weight playing Wii Sports Tennis. These are the same people who make comments like "I can't wait for Wii Fit to come out so I can start getting in shape." These same people will point at the space that my belly used to occupy not more than three months ago and lament about how they wish they could do the same. These folks are my friends so I don't want to be negative with them, so I usually try to encourage them to come work out with me TODAY and I'll even pay for their guest fee to the gym so they can start that journey already, but guess how many have taken me up on that offer?
Once again, I'm not saying that anyone HERE is going to be like that. I guess, if anything, I'm more concerned about how the general public will (or won't) respond to this, given the extremely high expectations some folks seem to have for it.

My point (I'll say again): If you were going to play a video game for recreation, wouldn't you rather play Wii Fit? You do NOT exercise 24/7. A few hours a day or so. You can play when you're not supposed to be exercising.

Well I for one love doing exercises, because I know that the outcome you get depends on the effort you put into it. Think of it this way, you're new to starting out exercise (yes after 7 months of doing it i'm still considered "new"), and the Wii has a fitness game released. You think of it as "Wow the wii is supporting my fittness goal!" So you take it in and use it as well as your exercises just for a bit of fun. During that fun time, when you're not doing anything - when you've finished all your exercises and want to warm down too, yoga would be a great way to do so I want to try out yoga and all. All in all im saying if you have a game on the wii, then this is one of the games you should just have for the sake of it. Prices will come down. You know as soon as games come out they're really high, I don't mind though, even though I barely have enough money for exercise items, I still want to get this because I believe it still will go well.
I know alot of people may disagree with this quote, but I personally beelive that if you want to lose weight you have to have your mind set to it. And I believe that if you have your mind set to it you can do anything. Towards those people who have a hard time starting to try to exercise if they use Wii Fit as a start - to get their mind set to try to exercise which keeps your recorded weight and BMI - then thats your stepping stone I beleive to real exercise. I know the best way is to just go out there and do it, but look at me, i've been doing this for ages and it's TAKEN me ages to realise that. This is just great for a starting idea, which I think Nintendo thinks as well. I know Nintendo wouldn't release a hardcore Wii Fit title because you simply... can't at this point in time. It's great for a start, to get into the habit of wanting to exercise. And you use this in conjunction (ie, along with) exercising in real life, though in your spare time.

I love the wii. Sure, it's no gym... but if you do something like the wii boxing for 30-60 minutes a day and you are doing that at the time that you would normally be watching the tv, it's got to help. Personally, just seeing the wii sitting on top of the tv while being in the living room at a time that I normally would be watching tv is motivation enough for me to jump in to using it instead of wasting time on dumb tv shows, movies, and other junk like that. Plus, it's cheaper than a gym... and with the wii fit you can measure you weight and stuff and it logs all that kind of stuff on a daily log for... which is way better than trying to write it all down yourself. Also, I don't know about you, but playing the wii is something I can get way in to more than some darn dvd workout thing thats the same exact workout every time you push play. My fear is that the wii will eventually become like another fad and be like tll those dvd workouts that everyone was so in to a few years ago... but I suspect that it's interactive enough that that won't happen.

I think if you not willing or not able to do real sports Wii fit is a pretty good excercise ( like Wii Sports). If you compare doing nothing with Wii fit, Wii fit owns by far.
But for everyone who is doing his regular workout like jogging, running, triathlon, hitting the gym, doing weights regulary the Wii fit is just a fun part, but the excercise part has only little effect.
For my pretty own I was hoping to copy the Wii Sports experiment results but I had totally no progress that way. So I've started doing "normal" sports. Wii didn't got me fit, but gave me the initinal motivation to start sports and I am still doing it ( for already a month now).

No, I completely agree with you; it doesn't look particularly entertaining and it doesn't appear to be high intensity... so it's a nice middle of the road thing: it's not a game you play to unwind and it's not something you'd do when you've got the itch to sweat, so I'm thinking someone like me would never actually use the thing once the initial novelty wore off... kind of like the Wii in general (although Kart may help blow some dust off my Wii).
If I'm being antisocial (and Wii Fit probably isn't the best "social bonding" experience available on the Wii, despite the families having a blast watching their kids get hit with virtual bricks in the face) and feel like gaming, I'll likely throw in something COD4 or GTA4. If I feel like sweating I'll hit the iron or pound pavement. If I feel like doing nothing, I'll watch a movie or plunk around on my ukulele or guitar. Just not sure where a Wii Fit would fit into that spectrum.

I'm getting it for sure when it comes out.
I mean, the fitness aspect means little to me. I can go to the gym for that.
It just looks FUN.
And I have no balance, so the balance part of it might be fun.
Not to mention the slightly brain-age like aspect. I adore that!
My friend, who's entire family is rather sedentary, is looking into getting it so that they can all start moving. She said something about not wanting to embarrass herself in public, I think. And she's been changing up her diet lately. I'm proud of her-she's just making tiny changes to be healthier (and I think she's lost a few pounds, but I'm not sure...she looks a little smaller). Is this as good as a solid gym routine and diet? No. But it's a start. And we all started somewhere, right?

Maybe on a day when your trapped in the house for some reason or another and want to get some sort of exercise in? Before I got rid of my regular rest days (too many activities, not enough time!) I always tried to do something similar to that to make sure I wasn't getting stuck in the couch cushions.

I love Wii. I'm not a big one on letting my kiddos play video games, but I do let them play this. They are very active, energetic boys as it is. So on a rainy day I don't mind them playing this. Much better than being a couch potato!

I've got other things that I use to exercise around the house (heavy bag, speed bag, jump rope, the "Ab Jab" bench ( http://www.jumpusa.com/ab_jab.html, holy whoah it's gone up quite a bit in price since I bought mine haha) and some dumbells that are going to be much higher impact/intensity than anything I'll get from the Wii fit. Hell, all you need is a chair and/or a wall and there's a huge variety of strength training (elevated feet for pushups, handstand pushups, etc.) you can do heh. That being said, not everyone is looking for higher impact/intensity so I'm sure there's a market for it; I just don't think it looks particularly entertaining (by comparison to other games) OR beneficial to me personally.
