That's an awesome time Tim, even better than expected!

I've been motivated to look into 1/2 marathons now, and have found one in July, with a training program at the local RunningRoom starting in April. If things continue to go well, I think I will aim for that.

It's so weird when you're driving along and you think about how far someplace is from your house/work/whatever and realize that you've been able to run that distance. It's kind of like a weird reality check.

Tim, you are amazing!! Such an inspiration! I am even more excited about my sprint tri after hearing your story! My combined swimming, biking, and running is only ~16 miles so it seems kinda puny compared to your 26.2.

Tim,

I am going to make it one of my goals to run a 1/2 marathon now. I never thought I would ever want to do anything like this, but I am inspired and want to challenge myself to meet external goals as well as my internal goals. (if that made sense...)

Not at all, the half marathon is actually 13 miles so your tri is a considerable distance.

That said, it is still a great time that Tim managed for his first effort! Sweet indeed!!

He broke through an avg speed of better than 9 mins/miles

I just found a half marathon that is near me. The next run is January 2009, so it gives me a lot of time to train.

Awesome, Jeff!! Keep us updated on your training as well

Rachael - I am signing up for a Master's swim program in my area this week, so that is another step towards getting that sprint tri done!! I'm, or course, no where near 16mi combined yet though...

Tim, perhaps next year I'll be shooting for a sub 1:55 half marathon

WOW! I think all this is AWESOME!

You guys can all do it, that is just so cool that we can all sit here and talk about this. I would have never guessed I would have been talking about this so soon..... you all will feel the same way soon enough! I just expect to hear about it! Whooooooo Hooooooo! Let's go!!!!

And for what it is worth, I couldn't do a tri now..... they would be skimming me off the bottom of the lake! That is a goal of mine, but I don't have a schedule on it yet. Still looking for a bike

Racheal - what Dean said - this was only 13.1 so that tri is a further distance.

I can only hope mine will be HALF that great!

And I missed this on the previous page - Spyke - I hope yours will be TWICE as great, and I am sure it will be!

Tim,

What was your training routine like a few months before you did the Half Marathon?

I have been doing high incline (a grade of 15) walking (speed of 3- 3.5) on the treadmill mostly, and last night I attempted my first real jog on the treadmill to see how it would go. It was rougher than I anticipated. I was barely able to squeeze out 3 miles in 45 minutes. So I have some serious work ahead of me, but I am curious about how you trained and got your body ready for the half marathon.

Jeff,

I followed a modified version of the Jeff Galloway Half Marathon Training - the one "to finish"

http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/half_marathon .html

Here is a link to my training log - this is what I actually did.

http://runningahead.com/logs/375d2647b6cb430295c01 56f73aecd27/workouts

You will do fine, just give your body time to strengthen and you will do fine. Don't rush it or you will get hurt and discouraged. I know - I did that back in July and paid for it for 3 months.

Good luck! You will do great!
