I have started two new blogs, one to follow my running and a Quest to a Marathon at blog.262quest.com and one to follow my weight loss at blog.2big.org, please check them out.
I am an IT professional / Developer which means I sit in front of a computer most of the day. This means very little exercise and plenty of time to eat.
I decided at the first of the year that I was going to lose weight. I started by changing my eating habits and started walking.
I did so for about a month and then added some weight lifting and started to run a little bit.
I have so far lost 29 lbs in just over 3 months and would like to lose just over another 50 lbs by the end of the year.
I have started running quite a bit more and am training to run the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on July 4th (10k)
I need all the encouragement I can get because to do this I am getting up every morning during the week at 4:30 to go running. With a wife and kids this is really the only time that I can consistently do what I need to do.
I am driven, but at times get a bit discouraged because I don't have anybody to work out with or run with.
All in All, I know I can do it, I just have to remember that when I don't do so well, it is in the past and what matters is going forward.

OK, I posted this on my blog and don't want to type it all again. I also posted it in one of the general forums instead of the running forum since many of you who are not part of the running forum are interested in my results.

I am a slow runner, decent snowboarder, and aim for wiisports rookie of the year. I have strong legs, eastern european calves, and like to lift things my boyfriend thinks I can't. A busy and constantly changing schedule make it hard to get into and stay in a workout routine. I'm a crusader for medical scientific truth in nutrition and weight loss discussions and I heart fiber.

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

Thanks all - your congrats are appreciated.
Another funny bit to add to the day.....
We saw some friends of ours that I haven't seen in a while. When she walked up to me she said... wow your skinny.
My wife was talking to her a little bit later and she had just got done talking to some other people. My wife walked over to talk to her and she said I was just telling them that your husband was a lot bigger and he has lost a lot of weight. The others there said "no, tell her what you actually said"
She had to fess up.
She said OK: "I said he used to be a Fat A$$, but isn't anymore."
She said she realized what she said and it sounded so bad..... but true.
Her and her husband were there to do the 10k.
I don't take any offense to this, and what she said was true. I just thought it was funny.... and flattering all at the same time!

I just completed my second Half Ironman and hit my target of Sub 6 hours. Currently training for a Half Marathon (everything in halves) and then a tougher Half Ironman in December. I am wasting a lot of energy on these races carrying excess fat around the course. I know I would be faster if I was lighter. I have lost about 20lbs in last two years but still have maybe another 10 that could go.

Your time has inspired me to try for sub2 at Huntley ... although I don't think I could run as fast as your opening miles.

I love to eat. Carbs is my weakness link that I always lose control in front of it.
I started running for fitness in 2007. Ever since I finished the 1st marathon (San Diego RnR 2007), I am addicted to running.
I started traineoing in Nov 2007. I have reached my goal weight in Jun 08 already. But, now, I don't care much about my weight. I care about it only if it affects my running performance.

Great job. Tim. It is your 1st half and you are already a sub-2. I am going to run the La Jolla half in April. It is also a very hilly course. You have inspired me to try for a sub-2 also.

I have been working out regularly since Sept 07. I've been here several times in the past BUT this time the change is going to last a LIFETIME!!
I am the mother of a ten year old competitive figure skater (which takes alot of my time). I work fulltime and my hubbie works away. Time is a challenge!!!
I would like to lose 20lbs by July 1.
I resolve to: Short term (by June 1, 2008): 1. Get back on track after my vacation in Cuba (April 7 - 16, 2008) 2. cardio 5x/week including trying to get back to running if my achillis tendon will ever heal! 3. weight train 3-4 x per week 4. Drink 64 oz water per day (this will be the biggest challenge!) 5. Obtain a Normal BMI (154 lb)!
Midterm Goals (by July 1, 2008): 1. Continue with short term 2. Try to increase mileage to run a 10 km race around Canada Day (July 1, 2008) 3. Try to find a 10 km race to run between June 15 - July 15, 2008 4. Obtain goal weight (currently set at 150 lb but maybe 144 lb) - BMI around 23 5. Continue weight training
Long term (By March 31, 2009): 1. To still be at this in 12 months time (the exercise and health habits not the weight loss part!) 2. To maintain a BMI of around 23! 3. To run a half marathon...if all works out...Myrtle Beach Half Marathon Feb 2009

|
# Posted: 17 Feb 2008 14:17
Wow! You are an inspiration to the rest of us! Sub 2 is wonderful...fast pace!
I have been looking for races to run this year with the aim of eventually running a half marathon...from reading your blog I now have a half marathon on my radar...Mrytle Beach 2009!
Just know you are a geat (positive) influence!

You guys can do it! It was hard, but the training really paid off Slow and steady training is what did it for me.... not speed work.

Yea, now that you put it that way.... that is fast - I really didn't know I could go that fast for that long. That is what races are all about - to see what you can really do. It is awesome and humbling all at the same time!
Thanks again all - see - if I can do it..... you can too! I was in the same boat many of you are in at some point in my journey, and some of you I am still inspiring to be in your shoes soon.... so it is possible!

Success is not a race, be patient. Success leads to success. Success is always a work in progress. Success doesn't come to you--you go to it. Success is a journey, not a destination. Focus on the process. Some people dream about success... while others wake up and work hard at it. Success is achieved and maintained by those who try-and keep trying. Everyday is a good day to SUCCEED! If at first you don't succeed-try, try again

Samantha - thanks! You can do it, just put your mind to it and it is obtainable!
The job went good. My legs were really sore, and the first few steps were hard to get up to a stride. She kept turning around to see where I was - laughing at me. I would have done the same. I had to look like I was 40 years older the way I was walking. It was a hard run, but well worth it to spend with her. I then went right back out for a 1.25 walk/run with my 6 year old son. That is not that difficult because it is a walk run. Again a priceless time spent with him.
Quoting: zebby Now full steam ahead for the full marathon?
Zeb - that is my goal! I will probably do the ING Atlanta Half at the end of March and a lot of 5k's and 10k's along the way. I hope to hit the 26.2 by the fall...... maybe sooner, but I don't think there are many fulls over the summer..... or even if I would want to do one then Like my blog says I am on the Quest to the great 26.2!
Thanks!

Isn't that what Rambo did? Oh wait - his fighting was mostly with a gun.
Quoting: RMontgomery My toe is actually starting to heal, so I can most likely get back to the treadmill fairly shortly
That is excellent! I am still hanging out waiting to get back to running. I will probably start back Thursday... since I was so sore!

Nobody said you would need to be a runner that is the beauty of Traineo, we can all talk even if we don't have the same interests, because we all have the same goal - fitness and healthy lifestyle. To some of us that may mean being Forest, to others it may mean being Rambo

http://anotherfatguy.wordpress.com/ I'm looking at a total weight loss of over 130 lbs (60 kg for those of you in Europe like me...), from 150 kg to 90 kg (330 lbs to 198 lbs). I'm a 36 year old man and am REALLY tired of... well being tired.
So far I've been training like a mofo, and have totally revisited my diet - so far so good, 1/3 of my goal HAS been met - YIPPEE!!
Have met some great people here, and looking forward to meeting even more here on traineo - don't be afraid to bombard me with motivation - I'll take all you can give me :)
