I love working out, especially outdoor activities, photography, traveling, and of course, eating!
With my most recent back problems from a car accident, I'm constantly working towards my fitness goal. Sometimes it's very discouraging... but I try to remember how far I've come.

I partcipated in a yoga class for the first time last week, and I really enjoyed it. Tonight I'm going to go again, and hopefully keep it in my routine.
But my question is... would it be alright to do cardio before hand? Typically I would like to take the kickboxing @ 6pm, and then the yoga class @ 7pm. Traffic doesn't always permit me to make it to the kickboxing class during the week, and in that case, I would just get on the elliptical.
Thoughts?

I don't see any problem. In fact, your muscles are all warmed up with a cardio session that you get into poses easier in Yoga and will feel more flexible. I like to do Yoga primarily as a stretch componen to my running and I think doing it after your cardio serves the stretching purpose also.

Must get back down to me fightin' weight, darned stoopid holidays and their tasty treats...
Fer reel: A couple years ago I dropped from 200 to 120, and since I've been "maintaining" ... which has turned into a slight, slow gain. School leaves me with an excuse to not work out, and that has lead to my weight creeping up. After 20 pounds I fought hard to get off the first time I'm saying no more and working my fat bum back down into the 120s where it belongs.
I prefer lifting heavy but I've learned to not hate "cardio" and have even taken up running... sorta.
Of course, my fave pastimes are usually sedentary, my art, gaming, etc... But I can get over that.

My instructor usually warms up on a cardio machine before class.
There are several people in my class that take the pilates class right before our yoga class, and there are people that take the bodypump class before that, then relax with some light cardio, then take the yoga class.
Try it. You body will tell you if it's too much.
I find that I can't do elliptical before yoga because it makes my hips really hurt. I find I can lift the day of, but if I lift the day before I'm in trouble if I wind up with DOMS.
So, try and see.

What style of yoga are you practicing? I wouldn't recommend a set of the Ashtanga primary series after kick boxing, but a Hatha class or more restorative practice would be rather beneficial.
In the end, what matters is that the practice serves you. My only concern with gym yoga classes is that they tend to treat Shavasana (the final resting pose) like it can be done in 30 seconds and then you're done.

Thanks for the replies.
I went ahead and did about 20 minutes on the elliptical before my yoga class, and the class before was running late so I had about 10 minutes to cool down. I did ask the instructor if it was alright if I did some cardio or kickboxing before her yoga class. She said that is more than ok, but if I'm taking the kickboxing class to make sure I drink Gatorade or some sports drink to keep my electrolytes up.
@ Christopher B I really enjoy how my instructor treats Shavasana, it's more like the last 5-10 minutes, and she doesn't rush thruogh it. I don't know any other way, but I feel that it's beneficial.

That's awesome! It sounds like you've got a good thing going there.

Some times when I'm sore from kickboxing the night before, I will do a Hatha yoga class for a hour before kickboxing class #2. I find it helps get the stiffness out of my hips and I can kick higher without straining.
