I started doing the Turbo Jam videos a few months ago. I have the main 5 workouts (Learn & Burn, 20 minutes, Turbo Sculpt, Cardio Party, Ab Jam), the Advanced (3T, Cardio Party Mix 3, Fat Blaster, Punch Kick & Jam) and the Get on the Ball (Kickin' Core, Total Body Blast). I also use WOWY (or Million Dollar Body) to sign in and work out with other people (Work Out With You). If anyone wants to be my success buddy on WOWY or would like to talk about Turbo Jam on here, just reply.
Welcome all Turbo Jammers (and anyone else).
And if you have any suggestions of any other videos to try, please reply. I like to switch it up every once in awhile.

It is our habits that will make or break us - and mine were killing me.
It has been a six month commitment, but I no longer drink soda, fast foods are once every other week (if that), I get to bed at a decent hour, don't eat after 8pm and make sure to grab something for breakfast. Just with these changes, I have lost 15 pounds.
And now with the hardest part out of the way, I am ready to get down to business and revamp my diet, eat less calories, start exercising and not have to worry so much about my old habits sabotaging my progress.
My first goal is 145. I will reach it.
145 achieved. looking for 135.

*sheepishly raises hand*
Disclaimer: OK OK. I feel REALLY silly bouncing around my living room and hypnotically watching someone who is WAY more fit than I am doing an ungodly combination of moves.
BUT. I broke down and got Turbo Jam. (can't afford a gym) AND LOOOVE IT. I've already lost 28 pounds with that...and watching my calories. I use them almost every day. I wish I had the Get on the Ball one. I never thought my abs would ever go back and now I'm in a size 8...and the abs are much improved!
very very happy with turbo jam.
I've done a lot of research and the one with the most results and most interested w/o is TJ. The Power 90 ones seem to be pretty popular (also by beach body). I've never worked with Power 90, but ppl seem to like it.

I lead a very busy life, so doing a diet and making time to work out is actually pretty difficult for me. I work for a school system fixing computers during the day, and work in youth ministry during the nighttime. It keeps me going. But it's harder to stay fit and healthy when you're so busy and convenience takes precedence over health. I'm working to change that. Hopefully, this will help.

what kind of stuff does it require? any gear? Does it require alot of room to maneuver? Is it for everybody or kind of a more advanced aerobics thing?
Jack is intrigued

Jnean: Yay! Another Turbo Jammer! Congrats on your success so far. I have to say, I love the Get on the Ball series...Kickin' Core is awesome. I do it in my bedroom so I won't bother my roommate, but it is a little weird bouncing around my room staring at the TV and watching Chalene, who is roughly my height, jump around with a much better body than me. I tried Power 90 a few years ago and I didn't really like it very much...thanx for the suggestion though.
Jack B: Depending on which dvd's in the series you buy, you just need workout clothes, sneakers, and a bit of room. You can scale down the moves if you don't have much space (there are people doing the workout on small circular stages in some of the videos). I think it's for everybody, there are ways to make it lower impact (and there is always at least 1 person showing lower impact moves). The main 5 workouts (that I listed in my first post) are for beginners and the rest are advanced. I honestly think I've never had more fun working out with this series. There's kickboxing, weight training, dancing, capoeira, etc... If you decide to get the main 5, Turbo Sculpt is the only one that requires equipment (free weights). Go to www.beachbody.com and click on the Turbo Jam section for more info on the workouts. Hope you try them!

@Genevieve...
Is the stretch routine TJ? Wow, that is great that you have it all planned out. I would LOVE to join you in WOWY, BUT my schedule is less predictable. Maybe at some point, our schedules will coincide and I'll see you there.
I find that if I make myself a little plan a month in advance, I tend to stick to it more. Also, did you know that WOWY is now Million Dollar Body? You might want to check it out.
@Jack: I agree with Gen. With TJ...(and I know some guys into it)...the first basic set requires no extra gear. There is are easy workouts and some more advanced. It took me awhile to get all of the choreography, but after awhile, it got easier. There are a couple of people in the tapes that show you everything modified, also. I use bare feet and not sneaks...which is not necessarily the best, but oh well... I've never done Power 90, a series also by Beach Body, but the results are very good and a lot of guys tend to go for those...I guess it is up to what you are looking for. This sounds like a commercial. Speaking of which, a small disclaimer, they tend to be pricey.

Hey Jnean,
Yeah, I've been logging into Million Dollar Body now. I wish I could win some money, but I'm never lucky that way. If you ever want to join me, just look for genedono, that's my WOWY/Million Dollar Body Name. Sometimes I might miss a workout too. Hopefully not though. And I might have to move my weekend workouts to mornings so I can work out with some people from the Turbo Jam message boards. We'll see.
Keep Turbo'ing!

The stretch routine is Power Half Hour by Tony Horton. I totally just remembered that I neglected that question in my last post.

About me: --------------------------- I'm an architecture student at a great school.
After trial and error, managed to shed the pounds for real.
What I'm doing: --------------------------- Portion control still a problem. HIIT 2x/week Starting weights 1x/week
I take stairs over escalator and elevator ALL THE TIME (I climb 6 sets of stairs minimum for the day at the metro 2-3floors?).
Extra note: --------------------------- I finally understand what being fit means! And I actually love running now thanks to HIIT.
Goal: lose the belly fat! My problem area. First goal: 120lbs - MET 2nd goal: 116lbs - MET 3rd goal: 112lbs ish with more muscle definition
Realizing I can't change the way my body stores fat and have a noticeable belly during the day (pic was morning with light breakfast after workout) I will work on making a stronger core to counter the pooch a bit
Dropped 1 pant size since last year (stable weight) Dropped 2 pant sizes since mid-Summer after Greece (pastries=weight gain)

OMG OMG I'm an avid turbo jammer! I love it, it took me a week to force myself to do it but now that I'm doing it, i look forward to working out, although the jump rope gives me a headache...just thinking of all the brain cells I'm killing cuz of it.. hurts my head :S
I've seen improvement in my fitness but not physically
I'm not quite sure how to use wowy... I've just been using this site, what makes it different?
oh do you know how much you sort of burn using turbo jam? I always put the minutes for cardio and put hard (cuz I do it hard) so I don't know if they'd have that info on wowy..

@Gen:
In the words of Napoleon Dynamite: "Sweeet." Heh, a little tired.
I will definitely look out for you. I'm nystuckny in wowy... I've been trying to get everything to mornings myself. Around 7am or so. Not terribly successful. Maybe I can try on the weekends for ya.
@ Josh:Turbo Jam is a lot like Taebo, I think. I used to use Taebo. I like the music and the choreography better in Turbo Jam.
@ Jessica: Try to use the sculpt and the ab TJ videos too, bc you will build muscle which will increase your metabolism which will burn more calories (at a resting rate) The more calories you burn (and avoid eating)...(as long as it your calorie intake is still healthy)...the more fat you will lose. If you are looking for toning...and not fat loss, then I suggest more weight training...low weights high reps.
I log TJ as cardio too...not much else we can do there.
WOWY is kinda of confusing. It is a forum that you can set up exact work out sessions with other people via the web...so you and me can set up a time to meet at 6a in the morning (good luck that early though) and work out together. You could do that with anybody, but people on WOWY are generally looking for other people to support them and can find other people to work out with...that sort of thing.

so it's not like this site? cuz they say sign into wowy.com for your automatic tracker to like track your progress so I thought it'd be like this site but the workouts would be a bit more specific in terms of cardio...
I type in aerobics and I put it as hard, it's pretty depressing that for the 20 min cardio it's like... 150 calories or something, that's nothing! 2 fruits and a yogourt and you're back to losing nothing at all :S
I don't mind that it shows I have a lower calorie burnt.. it's just not representative, in a way it's better because it means I'm eating less (cuz I always go over the amount I should eat to shed pounds) but still...

Do you guys warm up before Turbo Jamming?
I don't... cuz they have a quick warm up.. and I hope that that's enough to warm up my body...
cuz I can't find free info about muscle activation, like how to do it cuz stretching the muscle is only for cool down and she does it with you.. my muslces don't hurt the day after my cardio workouts or turbo scultp, but my abs hurt after the ab jam...
so is it okay? cuz they give you a message saying you should warm up....

Jessica Ma: Yea...the warm up at the beginning seems to be enough. I usually do extra stretching after though because I feel kind of tight. If you feel like the warm up isn't enough, and I've done this before, rewind it and do it over. Same for the cool down or just get a stretch dvd or a yoga dvd. I usually do Power Half Hour Stretch after. Or, if Namaste Yoga is on on FitTv, then I do that. Hope that helps!
As for WOWY, it pretty much just keeps track of which workouts you did. I haven't found anything on there about calories burned. But, for logging it in traineo, I usually log it as kickboxing. Kickboxing, really hard, 50 minutes is over 1000 calories. Probably not accurate. I just put it in so that my motivators can see that I'm working out, not really for the calories burned. I need to get a heart rate monitor to more accurately find that out and so should you.
Jnean: Can't wait to WOWY. Keep jammin' girl!

ya I put it as aerobics 45 mins, hard and it gives something like 350 calories which might actually be accurate because when I used to do the elliptical for an hour it'd give me 500 to 600 calories burnt.. so it's very much possible
although turbo jam is fun, I don't think it goes in my burning heart zone (or whatever you call it) enough so I'm thinking it might not be as good as my old elliptical workout, but I'm doing it faithfully so I'll continue.
I recently got the Turbo Jam Fat Blaster.. that one is pretty tiring because it's got 4 turbos, I'm still learning the moves there are like 1 or 2 I'm not too familiar with. Hopefully that'll get me burning fat a lot more! It's very hard to do in my little cluttered room though...

OMG I love turbojam. Haha. I had the original for a while and then two weeks ago I decided I was more than enough in love and spent an extra 60 or so on the two extra thingies.
So I got them in the mail yesterday. The first thing I did was do the Fat Blaster. And I'm in love. Hahaha. I was like falling over in my living room trying to keep up but I don't think I've sweat that much in 30 minutes ever or had that much fun working out at the gym ever!
And plus Chalene is super motivating. Haha. I love how she's all smiley and I LOVE WORKING OUT and all hyper. :P
Hmm... other videos? I think TJ is probably the best thing out there that I've seen so far, but the Biggest Loser DVDs are okay, too. The guy's not as cool but it has a nice low and high intensity cardio, and it has a strength training thing too. And since you know the people on it have lost weight (and are in the process of more), it's nice and it feels more real (vs the happy crazy tan californians in TJ, haha).

actually in TJ, a couple of the trainers are the ones that have actually lost weight on it, and there are like 2 chubby girls on it so it's pretty realistic. Even though they're chubby, I'm sure they are way more fit than I am and have better muscles, I think they may just be big boned.. anyways..

Turbo Jam is THE BEST!!! I did Tae Bo for like 2 years and it was alright, I lost all the weight after the babies, but I had to make myself do it. I want to do Turbo Jam and get mad if I don't. lol I ordered it in July and lost 32lbs and dropped 4 sizes in 6 weeks coupled with South Beach. I kept it all off until December and then put on 8 lbs over the holidays. But, I'm back on the wagon and nipping it in the bud before it gets any more out of hand. I set my goal weight a few pounds lower this time to give myself a cushion for the next time the holidays come around! (makes sense to me!)
I do have a question about tracking my workouts--What the heck do you classify Turbo Jam as? I guess it doesn't really matter, but you know, what would it fall under? Also, I'm not sure how many calories are burned during any specific workout, I've only heard you can burn as much as 1000 calories an hour, but it doesn't tell you what you have to do and for how long. Anyway, if you know any calorie burn comparisons, let me know.
Later, Jule

Well, I am not paying close enough attention to the postings...I see that you guys have classified TJ aerobic and cardio? I looked for cardio but didn't see it Jnean--maybe I missed it.
Jessipoo--I always warm up prior to doing any TJ workout. Just do the stretches they guide you through on your own before you push play, just for a few minutes longer than they do. Also, any muscles you *feel* it in more so than others after you're done, pay more attention to next time. I also get my heart rate up by being a big dork and "jump roping", "pumping" and "shake and shedding" and old way I feel like. It's fun! Just make sure the shades are down....lol

Realizing I can't change the way my body stores fat and have a noticeable belly during the day (pic was morning with light breakfast after workout) I will work on making a stronger core to counter the pooch a bit
Dropped 1 pant size since last year (stable weight) Dropped 2 pant sizes since mid-Summer after Greece (pastries=weight gain)

last time, after about 5 minutes into the workout and like 20 jumping jacks later, I was holding my boobs, and then I remembered why I stopped doing that workout...

Hmmm, I do feel for ya Jessipoo...I am a B also and I really don't have any issues, I had way more pain with Tae Bo. Billy's boobs were bouncing during that workout! LOL I wear a double-lined sports bra that has an underwire inside and a mesh cup and then the outer cotton lining. It keeps you cool and dry and supports. I got it at, like, Wal-Mart or something for around $10. Maybe you could look for one like that? I have no idea what you wear when you work out, but....Just my two cents. Oh, did you ever try that modified jump that Mindy girl in the video does? She doesn't really bounce around much.

LOL...Hey Julie...there isn't possibly enough support for our Girls..lol..
Yeah I buy all my sports stuff except shoes at Walmart...great buys..
I have always had weak knees...so I am slowly starting to run and jump..but really there is no need...I lost like 10 lbs my first two weeks of doing turbo jam.....and have lost inches...I have lost weight with other dvds before. But I find the kicks, punches and core work...gives your body a way better shape. I tried Billy's Tae Bo.. but he is too over the top and I find that I am always watching the clock. I do have the Dvd with the resistence bands...its pretty good...but it lost my interest as soon as I got My Turbo Jam package....I am so excited I just received my Turbo ball workout....gotta go do it now....

What I'm doing: --------------------------- Portion control still a problem. HIIT 2x/week Starting weights 1x/week
I take stairs over escalator and elevator ALL THE TIME (I climb 6 sets of stairs minimum for the day at the metro 2-3floors?).

LOL I hear ya, Jodi....I love the stuff at Wal-Mart, especially the Danskin line. Tons of cute and functional workout "apparel". I agree with you, you don't *have* to jump around a lot to get into shape, but it does warm up your body/muscles. If I'm feeling it in my knees or I'm tired or whatever, I just do the modified jumps. It's easier and you're still getting a workout. I think she just wants everyone to move around so much to get your heart rate up because that's the point of cardio. Billy Blanks is insane. I'm sure he's a nice guy, just insane. Hey, let us know how the Turbo Ball workout is, I'm curious.
Ok, I just looked in my drawer, Jessi--The bra I was talking about was apparently tagless and the writing has been washed off, but I want to say is was Bestform or something? I got it like 4 or 5 months ago, but they ought to have them. I have a few Hanes ones that I'm not wild about and a Danskin one that I like pretty well. Anyway, yeah, check out Wal-Mart, if they don't have it maybe Target?
