I'm a plant enthusiast dedicated to eating whole, fresh foods. As for exercise, I regularly participate in: swimming, water aerobics, yoga, the elliptical machine, the stair stepper, running, and weight training. I try to switch up my routine a lot so that I don't get bored. My biggest obstacle to weight loss is eating when I'm lonely or sad, but I've started keeping a list on my fridge of other things I can do to occupy my time. So far it's really been helping!
Aside from health and fitness, I was married in December 2007 and am enjoying being married and decorating our apartment. I am currently finishing my last semester as an undergraduate, and hope to begin an English MA program Fall 2009. I love reading, quilting, cooking, hiking, swimming, decorating, gardening, and striving to protect the environment. I'm also really pleased that Barack Obama is going to be our next president.
Let me know if you need a motivator! Good luck in your health and fitness efforts!

I've recently taken up swimming, and I have a couple of questions. Is pain in the inner thigh normal? I'm having some weirdo muscle pains in my left inner thigh and hamstring, and I want it to go away! Haha. Any advice/suggestions?

I hurt my inner thigh/groin swimming doing a frog kick (if that's what you call it) I was PG... and I think I overdid it with my tendons and such. If you're kicking that way... It might be that... (I'm not an expert swimmer... just formally PG with twins unable to do much else).
Maybe take a lesson to have your form checked...

Well I'm in a class, and my professor says i'm doing okay ... maybe I'm just not used to it. Thanks though! I'll do some stretching.

I am a student in university so we all know what that means....
The freshmen 15 increased to 50, but that was over 4 years. I finally made it to the gym at the end of September and haven't looked back.
23 pounds down, 27 to go.

It depends in the type of kick you are doing. It's its just a flutter kick (which is used for front crawl and back crawl) I would look into why your inner thighs hurt.
If you are doing the whip kick (which is what C M referred to as the frog kick), then I wouldn't worry too much about it for now because you are moving your legs in ways that you don't normally do on a day to day basis. If it really keeps up and its super painful, I would look into it because you may not be doing the kick properly.
I do say this with experience, I am a lifeguard and a swimming instructor. If it hurts THAT bad, you may not be doing the kick right. But if you aren't used to it, then it can hurt. Best thing to do is to give it a little more time.

I'm the author of Why Your Last Diet Failed You and How This Book Won't Help You on Your Next One. It's the inspiring true story of one man as he loses seventeen thousand pounds in just one hundred and ninety-two months. Unfortunately, he gained it all back last Thanksgiving.
Yes, this book is my tale: the good, the bad, and the deep fat fried. The main story spans years of dieting ups and downs. From Slim-Fast plans to cheeseburger benders, I follow up every smashing success with an agonizing failure. Admittedly, this would be a truly painful read if the subject weren't tackled head on with sufficient doses of satire and humor. Along the journey are many topical tangents: I give irreverent reviews of popular diets, teach the reader how to start his or her own diet craze, clarify why Pop-Tarts are not "an excellent source of vitamins and minerals", tell the frightening tale of the Pancakes of Death, and explain how diet sodas bring all the broken pieces of my life together.
You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll put it in your next garage sale.

I would definitely recommend stretching, especially if you're discovering muscles you didn't know you have (as nearly all exercise does). I would also definitely recommend ice cream. Eating ice cream can make anything feel better.

It may just be tightening of the muscles where you are using muscles not normally used?

For a while now, I've put my own health goals low on my priority list: Second to work, traffic, networking, responsibilities, etc. Now that I'm over-stressed, under-weight, and always tense, I'm doing something for me, and jumping back into my long-missed weight-lifting routine. I'm joining a gym and stepping up the challenge. My new workout is back to focusing on bulking up. I'm doing a workout of 3 days per week at the gym, and riding my bike to work for cardeo. This is a great workout, and I keep it well rounded by organizing all the weightlifting around the basic motions of push, pull, jump.

Any new activity is going to be a shock to your muscles if they are not used to that motion. If the pain is not too bad, I would suggest playing through it. But if it seems serious, don't feel bad about taking off a week or two to let your new muscles rebuild. You shouldn't have any problem after that.
