I seem to remember seeing a thread somewhere here on the heart rate monitors but can't find it.

Does anyone have one or can suggest a good one?

I am wondering whether getting a heart rate monitor is really worth it. I have lost 2 stone in the last 4 months with an established regime that I mould with what I am now capable of. Will an HR monitor actually make any difference to me if I am commited and work out quite hard but not too hard anyway?

Well it might, like its great you've lost all that weight but have you been looking to see if your overall cardio level has gone up? resting HR and all that jazz?

A HR monitor is just scales for your heart i guess

I get monitored at the gym who take my weight measurments every month and hr and I will continue to do so, so I already know monthly progress.

I did not feel like I needed it for the gym since there are monitors on the machines (though some might argue they are not that accurate). They are probably fine for just getting a relative point of HR.

I am reading that my HR should not exceed 140 when exercising so I am wondering if the gym ones are good enough. I'll be talking to a doctor and see what he says. In case I need one, I wanted to know what others are using. So much for HIIT.

Why can't your heart rate get over 140?

Pregnancy. That is just what I read and been told by a personal trainer at the gym. I am going to confirm with the doctor.

Wow. I didn't know that. I think that when I get pregnant one of these days, I'm going to have to read a whole stack of books before I can do anything else.

I don't know anything about fitness and pregnancy. I have some books on fitness but no mention of prenatal fitness in any of them. I am just looking around the internet for now and need to get to the library to look around. Last two pregnancies, I was really out of shape and did not exercise at all.

So, I went to the doctor today and very quickly after the ultrasound, he had to run to the hospital for an emergency surgery. I just literally started asking him and he had to leave. I am waiting for a nurse to call me. Outside of cardio, every time I lift weights, I get nervous.

I have had the F6 from Polar for just over a week now and I have to say, I like it.
Keeps you focused on the HR-zones you want to exercise in (like low level 116 -135 for me). It calls me back every time I hit the bike to heavily or brings me back up to speed whenever I'm slacking off.
Also, visualizing your data (like with traineo) is so motivating for me...

The nurse called and said to keep the HR under 140. Also, to continue to lift but take it down a notch. Overall, continue what I am doing but at a lower intensity.

Wohoo Rachel on using Shapefit

I had a friend who's wife got pregnant and she ran marathons before the pregnancy. She still did 5-6 miles a day sometimes during the pregnancy until about the last month... poor kid was bounced all around but he turned out fine

IF your body is used to the exercise then you can usually continue it... its jumping onto something new that is hard and bad during a pregnancy if its very intense.
