So here's the deal. I sweat like a man - like a man who sweats a lot. I know, I know, that's gross, but it's true. When I go run or bike or whatever I wind up with sweat pouring down me. I could live with except for the part where it gets in my eyes and burns. This has caused me (I've discovered lately) to ride, run, ect looking kinda down instead of ahead. Is a sweatband the only way out of the eyeball sweat? Because if it is, I'm gonna feel like a huge dork, but I guess I'll get over it.

I have the same issue Rachel, my mother gifted me genetically with her sweat glands. At the drop of a hat my forehead is like Niagra Falls.
I find that it's nice to wear something around my upper arm to wipe sweat off on. It's a habit I developed doing Karate for years and years; you just wipe your sweat on the sleave of your gi (those white uniforms). So, when I run or what have you, I often tie a bandana around my upper arm and wipe my forehead as necessary.

Good idea Josephine.
A forearm band like they wear in baseball would work nicely as well.

Are you drinking enough water? Today, at Weight Watchers meeting, the leader said that if your sweat burns your eyes, you are not drinking enough water.

Try spreading a line of anti-perspirant on your forehead. It sounds like a dumb idea, but it will help push some of the rolling beads of sweat past your eyes. It works quite well

I wear a hat, one that's specifically designed for running. Looks like a normal baseball cap, but is made of a mesh type material so it breathes well, and has a sweat band all the way around the inside. It does an awesome job of preventing sweat from creeping down your forehead.

I think the sweatband is the best idea so as not to add to the drag (a cap), mess with your form (a band on the arm), or give you Alzheimer's (the aluminum in the anti-perspirant).
Since you're already sweating, you're not exactly winning the public over with looks and sex appeal, so why worry about dorkiness with the band?

Not only do I sweat, my face turns bright red when I exercise and stays that way for an hour after I finish a workout. I wear it like a badge of honor. I personally feel that if I'm not pitted out, wet down the back, and dripping from my nose I didn't work hard enough. I may try the armband idea, maybe it will become popular on the track... lol

Quoting: missjoe my forehead is like Niagra Falls
Haha! Yes, good description. That's how mine is too. The arm band thing is an interesting idea. As Bean pointed out though that does somewhat screw up form.
Quoting: Inna Are you drinking enough water?
Oh yes. I drink around 4 L/day. I'm a machine.
Quoting: tdrinkard I think the sweatband is the best idea
Yeah that's what I was afraid of. Quoting: tdrinkard you're not exactly winning the public over with looks and sex appeal
Thanks for that vote of confidence

If you don't sweat when you are exercising, you are only fooling your self.
If you are not a faker when it comes to exercise, be proud of your sweat. It shows you are alive and not just a poser who walks 10 minutes in the treadmill and the hang around the weight lifting machines.
About the sweat hurting your eyes, you should check the kind of hair product you are wearing or if you have some dust in your forehead. Sweat shouldn't hurt your eyes.
My suggestion in wear a visor. It will hold the sweat from your eyes and is more stylish then wearing a 80's looking band. hehe.

Hey, Rachael, long time no post, (for me), glad to see you're well.
As for your Q., I too sweat like a mofo, as I work like one but never have I experienced any burning sensations from the drops. Now that I analyze though, the sweat almost always travels down my shnoz...
One thing popped into mind when you mentioned this burning and that is the general ph levels of your body. In my readings, I have learned that there are a multitude of foods that can help balance that if it's too acidic, so perhaps that might be worth looking into?
Keep on rockin' it.

Even though I'm thinking the answer to this is no, is there any chance that hair products might be at the root of the matter? Even perfume, (some spray it into hair), could be doing it.
Just some thoughts...

I do usually have hair spray in my hair. I have lots of little hair twigs all over the place - little annoying like 1 to 2 inch long hairs. It's kind of amazing that they are always there - you'd think they would grow out eventually, but no I've had them for years so the hair spray is necessary to keep the little hairs from getting crazy. Anyways, I'm not going to wash my hair before I go work out so I'm not sure if there's anything I can do about that. Thanks for the idea though!

Yeah, nothing is worse then sweat in the eyes except for sweat in the eyes with haircare products mixed in.
I haven't heard of anything to "reduce" sweat, but then again its a natural process which means whatever your doing is working your body out, and to keep going.
May have to stick with the headband, but its not like the only colour is white, im sure there are some designer stuff you can get like a headband/sunglasses combo, or something therein.

I also sweat like a man-man.
You can get some girly girl sweatbands or a visor. Adidas makes a few for the ladies.
The women's strike visor by adidas is pretty nice looking, though I've never used one...

I sweat a ridiculous amount too! It's nice to see I'm not the only one... my friends that I go running with "don't sweat much"... in their own words! I am usually bright red and dripping sweat by the time I'm done - I always feel like people are staring at me Probably cos they are...
Anyway it doesn't go into my eyes often - although it has happened a few times and it wasn't nice! I wear a visor sometimes if it's raining to keep rain out of my eyes... it works although I guess the aerodynamics thing is not a problem for me cos I run so slow anyway

Just look at the pros! It ain't a fashion parade its about being comfortable enough to perform to your best.
Everyone feels a tit sometimes when they train, I know I do when I hit my local streets with full backpack on going for a hike looking like I just stepped out of the national park. But who cares, if I don't do what I love I start to miss it, and that hurts more than the humiliation factor.
Besides, I find the only ones who laugh are the ones who really need to find a better hobby in life, than laughing at others. Something more in line with developing themselves.

Thanks for all the encouragement and sympathy everyone. It's great to know that other people (girls especially!) sweat as much as I do. I'm not too concerned about the fashion - I mean obviously I'm not out there to win anyone over - but I think I associate sweatbands with the ridiculous looking 80s style people. Haha. Anyways, I'll probably be purchasing a sweat band pretty soon. Thanks everyone!!
