I asked this question before but never really got an answer.
How much is too much exercise what is the maximum cardio and strength training a person can do in a day (or as the case with muscle exercise every other day) if they aren't in training for something(other than trying to lose a large amount of weight) and don't wan't to over do exercise body wise?
Would two hours of cardio a day (over the full day, not at one time) be too much? How much strength training can you do until your overdoing it?
What if one is intense(like turbo jam or the s.w.a.t. workout at night) and the other was regular (like walk away the pounds in morning)? This is what i am 'aiming' to do come fall and winter if my body and energy will allow it and i am wondering if that is too much or not even enough.
I have realized i am going to have to do much much more exercise if i am going to get this weight off but i don't want to over exercise my body to the point where it won't do anything.

It's been my experience, that my body will tell me how much is too much. The problem is making sure that you listen. I think with a very low impact activity such as walking, going for a stroll, you can have at it as much as you please. More intense activity, stuff that really gets your heart rate up and puts some real stress on your body, I think that can vary widely. There are athletes out there that often train for 4hrs or so a day, not a huge deal. There are people out there for whom more than half an hour of activity will leave them barely able to move.
If it's a real concern for you, I would suggest asking your doctor, or a trainer. Otherwise, maybe try just gradually increasing your activity and seeing how you feel, how your body reacts.

I agree with what Josephine said. You don't really have to listen to your body, it'll yell at you when enough is enough.  I can do cardio forever and will only be tired during the duration doing it: 20min later, I feel like I never hopped on a treadmill. I do not know how long you should do weigh training for, it depends on the intensity and body parts being used. I stay at the gym for 2hrs, rotating body parts as to not sore out one, then move to the next. I have been building muscle well with this technique, and don't expect to change it anytime.

I am a university student, mid 30's, and mom to a 5 year old boy. I want to maintain my weight below 133 all year round! Now that I've dropped the weight, I don't want it back! I'm a martial artist/runner.

I do 2 hour martial arts workouts 3 hours a week and I can do nothing for the rest of the day. I can run 7 miles and feel the same way. Its good to test yourself by going until you have to stop, and seeing how you feel 2 hours later. Are you cold and shaky? probably did a little too much, Still feel like going? do more next time.
My personal max for exercise is 2 hour long workouts a day, 1 weight and 1 cardio. or, running 7 miles, or, 2 hours of hard martial arts.
I could walk all day long and not get tired.
My signs that I've done enough are how I feel after my post workout meal and beverage. If I'm cold, shaky, or don't feel like taking a walk, I've done enough/too much.
If any muscle hurts within an hour of working it out, stop using it because you know tomorrow it will be worse.
Strength training: I don't work the same muscle group on more than 2 exercises, I lift as much as I can do for 10 reps x3. I lift each muscle group every 2-3 days. My goal is to be a little tiny bit sore the next day.
Cardio: I've overdone it if I have to stop and catch my breath. There is nothing wrong with doing more than one workout a day. I usually do 2.
Maybe you need to exercise to the point where you can't do anything for a few days just to know where that point is. Seems to happen to me once a year or so.

Thing is when i am exercising i don't think i can do anymore. afterwards i feel like i can do tons more which is why sometimes if i can pull it off i do an extra cardio(this was before i started the new 3 mile wlk away the pounds routine i am now on) then an hour long yoga routine(the slow and steady one not power yoga).
I want to up my cardio to about two hours a day for fall with one hour regular aerobic in the a.m. and one hour more intense like turbo jam at night, 3-4 days of strength training however long the dvd i am useing may be, and yoga at least 4-5 times a week.
My spring schedule i plan on even more if i can pull it off.
Honestly i think i am doing alot now, and it's just not doing anything other then toning me up alot(and i got these tiny little muscles growing on my biceps that i love and want to grow into large muscles, lol). This is good but i want more and i think i've gone as far as i can change mentally with the food without pushing me to a point where i want to give up, at least for now. i am doing the changes to my diet more slowly because of this, but with all i changed i should be losing at least a pound or two.
Exercise i am willing to do more, i am shocked to find out that i would enjoy it(for years i thought it was the exercise itsef i hate, it's the lack of energy to accomplish it i actually hate) if my body had more energy to do all i want to do i would be doing alot more.
wish i could afford one of those all in one indoor gym things.

Push yourself to the limit. I've been playing soccer on Saturdays for the past two months and it left me absolutely destroyed afterwards. I was also playing pickup games in the park but they're in a small area and don't require much running. Past two weeks I added a 1hr+ session of me kicking the ball against a wall and running around chasing it. So this Saturday finally I did soccer and I was actually capable of doing things after the game. It's not s.w.a.t. training but I think pushing yourself beyond what you think you're capable is the only way to get yourself to the next fitness level, where you can burn more calories for longer.

Listen to your body. I agree with pushing yourself to new levels, but be careful. You don't want to overreach or overtrain. There can be adverse side effects from too much exercise. It is difficult to get there, but believe me, I have been there. I was running 5 to 10 miles daily. I had to take a month off from all training just to recover and start feeling better.
If you notice a heightened resting heart rate, depressive symptoms, irritability, daily fatigue, "dead legs", etc you may want to take a couple of days off to rest or at the very least reduce your training for a few days or weeks.

i"d done a similar routine Joanne, i.e., the 2 hrs cardio then strength training when i first began trying to change my body. During , i felt like I would die, but afterwards I had so much energy! i was like invincible. I've slowed down considerably.. only about an 1hr and a half of total exercise a day and I must admit, i felt so much better when i was crazed w/exercise....

Thank you all for your responses. I will try to push myself to the limit and not overdo.
The lots of exercise for fall is only until late spring or early summer when the weather around here heats up and it is difficult for me to do anything without overheating and passing out. it is something i am going to have to keep an eye on when i step up my exercise too. I keep a big water bottle of cool water nearby and slow down when i feel it happening.
Then come next fall i will get back to the large amounts of exercise.
So i will be working my way up to two hours a day in september and already am adding a lighter cardio now in the a.m. a few days a week to get my body ready for the six days i plan on doing.
