It's my summer vacation, and frankly, I am -not- getting up at 6 am to go running (I do bad with AM workouts anyway).

The thing is, because I have no friends and no degree of a social life, I'm in the house until about six when it cools down enough that I can tolerate it (it's 11:30 right now and pushing 95 degrees). This takes and awful tole on my energy, but I have nothing to do but sit around and go online, read, and/or listen to my ipod (yes I do all three at once sometimes).

Come six, I'm tired and stiff and don't want to move, but I have no other time to work out. I know it's from being inactive all day, but how can I get rid of the stiffness? I did an AM yoga video on On Demand this morning, and that should help me a little bit (I'm considering finding another workout video to do around 4 or so). Any tips?

Don't just sit around on your booty all day. Clean something, run some errands. Just because you don't want to work out doesn't mean you and your couch have to merge into one entity all day. Hehe.

If I could go somewhere, I would.

But I'm 14. I have no car, no bike, and I'm not allowed out of the neighborhood (thank you, mother, for believing that I'm five years old).

I mean, really? There is no social activity at all that you can get involved in? Church, some kind of summer sports club, babysitting even? Don't waste your summer away by sitting on your butt all day long. You will probably regret it.

I don't go to church or have friends, and I'm not allowed to babysit or anything because "I'm too stupid". And this town has -nothing-. I have cross country soon, but even then, it's only like 2 hours or so, and most of the people (not all, but most) don't like me.

I hate it. There was a storm the other day and I was tempted to go see if I could get struck by lightning because that's more fun than this summer is.

Mikaela, that's awful. I'm so sorry that you feel this way. Do your parents really tell you that you are too stupid for something? Because that is really terrible. Have you tried talking to them about it?

I really feel for you Mikaela, you don't sound like a happy bunny. Being a teenager can be a tough time and it is hard for parents too to get the balance right. You are not yet a woman but at the same time you are certainly not a little child either, and you deserve the space to grow and find yourself.

I guess you need to find something that you are passionate about and something that you can channel your energy into. When I was young I learned the guitar and spent time in my room just playing and thinking of new tunes.

What is it that you are passionate about? What ambitions do you have in life?

I know it seems tough but it really isn't all bad. Between the community we are all here

If you don't want to get up at 6AM try 9AM. It should still be cool enough to run, or at least walk. Plus it will regulate your bed times, and if you take plenty of water it shouldn't be too bad. You can also buy a couple dumb bells (maybe one 5 pound set and one 10 pound set) to start on some weight training. And a medicine ball should round you out.

Or if you prefer cardio, buy some DVDs to do in the house.

I think there are more important things to sort out before figuring out an answer to your question.

Geez kid, you sound like me at that age and i was in a state of major depression then. I also had no friends then either. I was also told i didn't have the brains to properly babysit or have a summer job. They were wrong but when your a kid nobody listens. Just remember it's not what anybody tells you, it's what you tell yourself that counts. It sounds like your having a rough time.

i don't know what i can tell you about what to do during the summer when you got nowhere to go and nobody to go with in a town with nothing in it cause i never found a solution myself other than going to the library.

i can tell you that to shake off the stiffness to do a light workout on DVD if you want. I do megan garcia's yoga for plus size(but it can be for any size i think), it's relaxing and stretches out your muscles enough to shake off that stiffness or do leslie sansone's one mile get up and get started. it will will also loosen up the limbs enough to get rid of the stiffness.
If you want a regular workout do any of the leslie sansone walk dvd's. It's like taking a brisk walk inside your house and she adds enough knee lifts, side steps and arm work that you can get a good workout or look for a dance (if you don't mind dancing) workout dvd and just boogie.

Seriously though, if you keep feeling this way you need to talk to somebody. i didn't and i went into a deep spiral of deep depression that i still haven't completely escaped. That is not a place you want to be.

I hope things improve for you, nobody should feel that way no matter what age they are. Take care.

You may want to look into this product gHP Sport. I work 60 hours a week and go to college full time so I'm always tired. I've been taking this product for 5 weeks now and I've finally found the energy to include an exercise routine at least 4 times a week. Maybe it's just a placebo affect but personally I recommend it. Here's the info: http://www.ghpsport.com/npasuit/

I live in south florida. I agree that the heat suck. When I am on the computer all day or cannot go outside, I try to get up and walk around alittle. Maybe clean my apartment some just to get my blood flowing some.

Is it even possible to be a full time student and work 60 hours? Do you live on a different planet with a 34 hour day?
