Wow, the elliptical machine kicks my butt! I usually stick with the treadmill and stationary bike, but today I gave the elliptical machine a try and I was sweating a ton and out of breath after just 15 short minutes.
I may have to make this a regular part of my routine!

I've always been bigger. Maybe not classified as being fat because I carry it pretty well. But, well, I'm fat. There's no fooling myself. In January, months of hard work paid off as my wife got pregnant with what will be our first child. I had been exercising a bit until that point, but I decided to ramp it up a notch and get my weight to where I can be healthy and be around a long time for my wife and kid.
I've been known to drop 40-50 pounds in 5 months or so on a few occasions, only to slowly gain that weight back over a couple years. This time is different. I know everybody says that and usually that statement doesn't come to fruit, but I've got that incentive...becoming a daddy.
Got a blog rolling- rokandroll.blogspot.com
I post on it a few times a week. Mostly fitness stuff. I try to be somewhat humorous. Check it out if you're REALLY bored.

The elliptical is my bread and butter. It's quiet, easy on the knees and really gives you a workout. Good to see you posting.

Yep, I am going to start making it a part of the daily routine. You are right, it is great on the knees compared to both the bike and treadmill.

http://anotherfatguy.wordpress.com/ I'm looking at a total weight loss of over 130 lbs (60 kg for those of you in Europe like me...), from 150 kg to 90 kg (330 lbs to 198 lbs). I'm a 36 year old man and am REALLY tired of... well being tired.
So far I've been training like a mofo, and have totally revisited my diet - so far so good, 1/3 of my goal HAS been met - YIPPEE!!
Have met some great people here, and looking forward to meeting even more here on traineo - don't be afraid to bombard me with motivation - I'll take all you can give me :)

when I started the elliptical I think I got 10 minutes in before I died.
Slowly but surely, I was able to work it longer, but it was definitely not fun for the longest time...
Now when I work the elliptical I don't run out of energy (it's actually a LOT harder for me to get my pulse up now!), but my feet fall asleep after about 40 minutes - that's when it's time to find a new machine

I hope to have a bikini body for this summer.
I was more fit when I was back in college. (which was 2 years ago)
I'm stuck in this cycle of the YO YO diet. I'll work out and eat right for six months then it all goes down hill for the rest of the year.
So one day I googled a fitness support group and came upon traineo. I'm glad I did!

I love the elliptical machine!!
I used to be a treadmill lover like you, but once I gave that elliptical machine a kick...I couldn't stop. hehe
It's also a challange to rotate backwards=) feel it more in the quads and hamstring.

Started going to the gym 2/2008. Doing mostly cardio / elliptical. I am shooting for looking drastically different by August for my wife's family reunion. My ultimate goal is to be 180 by the end of December.

I am too a Elliptical fanatic. Lately I have had to do more challenging settings on it since the normal "Fat Burn" setting is getting boring. It is more of a challenge with the "Cross Training" setting where you have to alternate going forward and backward. I usually do it for 45 minutes at a time but have done is longer.
I am glad I use a MP3 player at the gym since it keeps me motivated and I move to the beat of the music.

For me, the elliptical was great place to start but now I find it nearly impossible to get my heart rate up on it. I'm diggin the running now. I love Spain Park and my awesome 5k track.

Not much to say, I like playing video games and watching/playing sports. I work as a web developer for a small company.
I think when I get into shape I want to become a volunteer firefighter.
Goal: Lose 35lbs before Cardio King

In this rainy-ass land, I too use mine a fair bit, running outside when the weather's not pukey.
And I never have trouble reaching high heart rates for interval work on the elliptical. It's a simple matter of adding other elements to the workout like:
-shadow boxing
-aerobics moves with the upper body
-even exaggerated air-drumming works wonders for upping the heart rate.
Same thing goes for max tension at a fast pace using the handles. Go fast enough and there's no getting away from the work.
Max tension/sans-handles and with no vertical movement, thus isolating the the butt and legs makes for plenty of challenge too, at least for this ole camperette.

I am a 33 year old mother of a six year old boy. He's my life. Recently joined the local YMCA and started working out. I really enjoy it. I have been wanting to try to loose weight for a while but can't get motivated. Now I'm really ready!

I LOVE the Eliptical! Like many of you I have had to work my way up to 45 minutes but now I think it is awesome! If you look closely you burn more calories on the eliptical than the treadmill too. I like to play some techno and go to town on that eliptical. Now I"m excited about going to the gym tonight!!

I love the ellipictal.
The stationary bike kicks mine. I do 1 mile on it once a week as a little extra "umph" and that 3 minutes is exahusting.
