I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

He's just the cutest!
I just watched him on a talk show from last year and he answered to, "What's the secret of long life?" with, "Clean thoughts and dirty girls". Heheheh!
He's still so incredibley SPUNKY, and STILL doing pull-ups, thankyouverymuch.
Pure inspiration.

I'm a major fan.
Meeting him would be one major gift.
I actually teared up watching him take the stage, (to a standing ovation), in the interview on that talk show.
Go JACK.

I just introduced my hub to Mr. Lalanne's vids as he hadn't heard of him until recently and I hope it serves as one more piece in the ole fire under the arse puzzle, heheh...

Quoting: Minu I just watched him on a talk show from last year and he answered to, "What's the secret of long life?" with, "Clean thoughts and dirty girls".
That was the Jimmy Kimmel show, and Youtube has that too.
It's not just that he's fit, but he has that old school charm and natural wit and eloquence that you just don't see much of anymore.

My pleasure, Suesue, and lucky YOU to have grown up with that kind of positivity.
Itada, amen to THAT. I'm so glad I found these clips on you tube, and as for Mr. Kimmel, perhaps he will be inspired to de-dough-ify his own waistline/lifeline?

Thanks for the post Minu!! After being inspired by your thread I spent a good while yesterday evening surfing you tube and checking out more of his clips as well as some very influential characters.
What a great thing youtube is!!!
My only confusion has been how nobody I seem to know has ever heard of Jack Lalanne????? Hello!!!!!!!! Where has everyone been???????
He's hardly new on the scene?????!!!!
What a guy. All those advances in research and technology and he was living his principles in those days.

You're most welcome, Dean.
And while Mr. Lalanne was obviously known in the U.S. and likely parts of Canada, both you and my hub are testiment to how, (sadly), his word didn't spread 'cross the pond much at all over the years.
I have no doubt that with the grande aid of the Net and sites like youtube, he's about to enjoy a kind of a re-birth.
Here's hoping so.
(I can just see you now, Dean, giving those fingertip-one-handed push-ups a go over there! )

Thanks, Minu!! I think I found my new favorite quote, from the link Splint posted:
...You know, we have to take responsibility for us. You know I have never heard, 5:00 in morning my gym: Jack, this Jesus. I will work out for you today. You help you. You know, nobody -- anything -- if any -- if I ever get arthritis or rheumatism or cancer, or anything happens to me, I made it happen. I broke nature's law somewhere along the line. You think about this. I made it happen.

Lalanne is consistent. He repeats that same message here:
Everything you do in life, I don't care, good or bad--don't blame God, don't blame the devil, don't blame me, blame you. You control everything! The thoughts you think, the words you utter, the foods you eat, the exercise you do. Everything is controlled by you.
It's worth reading the entire article.
