For those of you who don't know who this man is, he is theeee Father of Fitness, and has been sharing and teaching his whole life.

He's now in his 90's and still brimming with vitality.

Here are some video clips from way back in the 50's. All sound advice, all delivered with his signature passion, and to me, just a damn beautiful thing.

Enjoy.

Jack, on happiness.

Jack, on sugar.

Doing ONE HANDED FINGERTIP PUSH-UPS. Awesome.

Here's a nice article about him written recently.

peace, All, and happy sweating!

M.

He's just the cutest!

I just watched him on a talk show from last year and he answered to, "What's the secret of long life?" with, "Clean thoughts and dirty girls". Heheheh!

He's still so incredibley SPUNKY, and STILL doing pull-ups, thankyouverymuch.

Pure inspiration.

I'm a major fan.

Meeting him would be one major gift.

I actually teared up watching him take the stage, (to a standing ovation), in the interview on that talk show.

Go JACK.

I used to watch him while growing up in New Jersey. My dad used to do some exercises while watching him...

Yeah, the good old (innocent) days. Boy, I wish the world would get back to old fashioned values and stop the violence and crime...

K, I'm outta control today but I just love this stuff--and I love dogs, so check out Jack and his Happy pooch.

Sidenote, I didn't realize that Jack coined the Gangster term, "dog", before, heheh...

I really like that dog he had, super-cute.

I just introduced my hub to Mr. Lalanne's vids as he hadn't heard of him until recently and I hope it serves as one more piece in the ole fire under the arse puzzle, heheh...

Quoting: Minu

That was the Jimmy Kimmel show, and Youtube has that too.

It's not just that he's fit, but he has that old school charm and natural wit and eloquence that you just don't see much of anymore.

My pleasure, Suesue, and lucky YOU to have grown up with that kind of positivity.

Itada, amen to THAT. I'm so glad I found these clips on you tube, and as for Mr. Kimmel, perhaps he will be inspired to de-dough-ify his own waistline/lifeline?

Thanks for the post Minu!! After being inspired by your thread I spent a good while yesterday evening surfing you tube and checking out more of his clips as well as some very influential characters.

What a great thing youtube is!!!

My only confusion has been how nobody I seem to know has ever heard of Jack Lalanne????? Hello!!!!!!!! Where has everyone been???????

He's hardly new on the scene?????!!!!

What a guy. All those advances in research and technology and he was living his principles in those days.

You're most welcome, Dean.

And while Mr. Lalanne was obviously known in the U.S. and likely parts of Canada, both you and my hub are testiment to how, (sadly), his word didn't spread 'cross the pond much at all over the years.

I have no doubt that with the grande aid of the Net and sites like youtube, he's about to enjoy a kind of a re-birth.

Here's hoping so.

(I can just see you now, Dean, giving those fingertip-one-handed push-ups a go over there! )

I hop you can't, my first attempts were embarrassing.

It's given me a target to aim for though.

Well, he IS on the short side, which gives him an edge. If that's any consolation...

Thanks, Minu!! I think I found my new favorite quote, from the link Splint posted:

...You know, we have to take responsibility for us. You know I have never heard, 5:00 in morning my gym: Jack, this Jesus. I will work out for you today. You help you. You know, nobody -- anything -- if any -- if I ever get arthritis or rheumatism or cancer, or anything happens to me, I made it happen. I broke nature's law somewhere along the line. You think about this. I made it happen.

Lalanne is consistent. He repeats that same message here:

Everything you do in life, I don't care, good or bad--don't blame God, don't blame the devil, don't blame me, blame you. You control everything! The thoughts you think, the words you utter, the foods you eat, the exercise you do. Everything is controlled by you.

It's worth reading the entire article.

His grand-nephew just opened a crossfit affiliate in San Francisco.

It must run in the family. Jack was on hand doling out lots of advice and encouragement. He may be old, but he's still made of fire and steel.
