Almost everyday, I climb up and down the flight of stairs at my house. I do it for an hour, while listening to my mp3 player (couldn't do it without the mp3 player). I was wondering if this is good to stick with. And in all honesty, I am too lazy to variate. The only time I switch it up is when it rains or when it's really cold outside, and I get on the stationary for the same amount of time.

Is it okay for me to stick with a calorie counting, stair climbing "diet" like the one I'm on???

Stair climbing is great exercise. I don't see how it's any different than being on a stairmaster for an hour. In fact, you have a lot less opportunity for cheating by leaning on the hand rails of a machine. Are you getting your heart rate up? What kind of results have you been seeing doing what you are doing? If you're getting good results, stick with it! If not, increase your intensity and see how that helps.

Personally I HATE the stair machines and I'd rather be doing exactly what you're doing except I'd probably have trouble pacing myself: I'd either go all out and not last the hour or I'd go too slow and not get a good workout.

My hatred of climbing stairs is exactly what tells me it works though

And once you get real good at it, try two at-a-time.

I say, whatever works, do it.

(You should see some of the crazed-looking moves I add to my elliptical routine! Another one of the pluses of working out at home, teeheee ; ).
